guess what that was. the mannequin challenge. >> that was our version. what did you think? >> did we pull it off? >> yes. [laughter] >> i was doing my raising the roof. [laughter] >> the longest and the quietest we've ever note spoken. right brian gotter what a guy. >> if you haven't seen it yet i'm sure you have because it is all over social media it started by a couple teens who cla they started it in jacksonville, florida. and they were at the school ed white high school and they claim they are the ones that started it. they did it on social media, hash tagged it mannequin challenge, asked them to recreate it. since then everybody is doing it. the bucks just did a really cool one on the plane. >> destiny's child did a cool one. they are funny. i think it's good. >> it's cool you literally strike a pose and hold it.
9:02 am
to about a minute. that's sort of the rule. >> how long did we do it probably 30 seconds? >> probably not even. >> probably felt like a couple minutes to you guys i don't know. >> was it boring? >> the clinton camp did it on their plane they had john bon jovi and they broke it when they broke it they said, don't stand still get out and vote today. >> that was a cool message i thought in terms of doing the mannequin challenge. today as we know, is election day. >> get out and vote. >> our intern amanda is sin that was pretty cool. good stuff. >> today is election day. is everybody ready? >> you ready? >> our executive producer kim said i hope my kids are okay with frozen pizza tonight because i'm going to be feeding them that and camped out in front of the television. but i think, -- >> it is nerve-racking because everybody feels strongly about who they are going to vote for even if they don't like either of the candidates. >> raise your hand if you are still undecided.
9:03 am
>> the thing i'm most excited about, facebook clearing out. no more rants about who you are voting for and all of that stuff you know. >> i don't think it's going to end anytime soon. >> you don't? >> oh, no i think once somebody is elected it's just going to get worse. >> i don't. >> i don't know. >> okay. >> last night a sold out show at the oriental called embrace. this woman has a crusade a global crusa the video of body loathing. what was fascinating she said it's this mundane issue, but also very universal and it was shocking to me, as she interviewed people on the street or experts, i mean, it is universal, women hate their bodies. she was fascinating because after she had her first child, hated her body so much she went through this 15 week intensive thing where she became a
9:04 am
stage with this perfect body. and what she said was all of the women in the competition all they could talk about behind the scenes was what they didn't like. >> what wasn't good enough for the competition? >> i'm not tall enough, my breasts aren't firm enough, i am you know, my legs are too big, all of these things. after that had two more kids and it was this whole thing about love your body. people were crying in the theatre. >> i bet every single person male and female i think you genuinely have those issues, but athe end of the day we all know when we go none of that matters. >> right. yes. >> nothing external matters. >> interesting to note i don't think i saw a single guy in the theatre. [laughter] >> because they really want to go watch women loathe their bodies. [laughter] >> exactly. but i felt after seeing it as as much as i wanted my girls to see it i wanted my son to see it. i think sometimes what your body can do if you focus on that
9:05 am
mirror. the self-talks the things we say about our bodies is pretty incredible. >> i know we're out of time. in the book i'm reading he said he owned a million dollar horse what would you feed it? he talked about the fact you would feed it the highest best meal best food everything. he was like why don't we think of ourselves as a million dollar horse? we treat ourselves so much differently than we would treat something else that cost us so much money. >> very interesting. >> the life a great book. before we get to the flowers we want t take a look at our art's cameras plus picture of the day.>> you can say this is f art. katie says her husband took this photo of their 6 month old son jason at a local park. he had a ton of fun playing in the leaves even tried to eat a few of them. >> oh, he tried to eat them. >> you silly pumpkin you can't eat those >> he's so cute.>>ou imagine ras

9:07 am
holidays. people get so tired from mid-november through december we thought why not just have fun with it. we play days, daze. people feel like they get through it. so anyways this is going to be a great post election activity because it is this friday and saturday. november 11 and 12. >> we need something to cheer us up. >> flowers make everyone happy you know. i always wonder this about when i throw thanomething professionally donehat in your opinion is the secret to a bouquet that looks as beautiful ashe o we are looking at right now? >> i think color balance is the most critical. this was designed to work with colors in the studio so it would relate to the background. i think have you to choose what you are doing to blend the colors so they transition. for example, something like this that has more than one color -- >> oh, god you killed it. [laughter]
9:08 am
between the deep deep orange and the purple. >> there you go right there. >> see all of the different colors in there. >> the other thing for me is it is sort of like cooking if you can find an ingredient that is unexpected, people remember it more. and these are peony pods the seeds. >> i wondered i thought it was a mushroom. >> i wondered what those were. >> those are seeds from a peony. >> i'm holding it that's a peony pod. >> and they hold up for years on end. >> it is beautiful. >> most people don't see them because they harvest them when they are blooming, but i have a collection of peonies that was my grandmother's and i probably have 170 plants so i allow some of them to dry. >> that'sa. >> it's really cool we have pictures of some of the beautiful florals and things you have at the show. it's wonderful, who provides the florals where do they come from?
9:09 am
over southeastern wisconsin that participate in this annual event. the florals as you can see are amazing. we're so lucky to have victoria she's been participating a couple years and she's really one of the state's top florists. and there is a competition so, you know -- >> okay. >> come vote. if you haven't had enough of the voting today, can you do voting on friday or saturday. >> true works of art. you know because they transform from just being what maybe we would consider a bouquet to something ths which is cool that the museum is displaying them. as part of this event going on friday and saturday, there are talks and lectures what kinds of things can people learn or hear about if they attend? >> well i'm doing a class saturday morning on foraged flowers going out in the woodlands and collecting the materials that will be not everlasting as they are sometimes called, but long lasting dried materials and it's
9:10 am
the same as local food. what you find is what you get to work with and how creative you can be. that's one of the great things about this event there is nobody dictating what they want it comes straight out of our imaginations that's a real luxury because most of the time you're working for a client and you don't always get to be as expressive as you like to be. >> i bet. can you purchase any of these? i can imagine people see some of this for the holiday season or thanksgiving whatever it may be. >> there is a option, you can talk to us at the end of date on >> is there a marketplaceoo? >> there is a marketplace. weave lots of artists and craftsman comg in. that will be happening the in the atrium area. there is a blooming cafe. this whole weekend is just abuzz with the holidays. >> and it is fall and sort of christmas holidays. seasonal. >> it is seasonal plus holidays.
9:11 am
floral works of art that are for sale orl there be different types of things? >> it is really artist crafts. it is everything from painting and prints and fine art to you know sort of pots and pot ceramics. jewelry is a big ite all across the board. >> a right that's exciting. when people get in, what is the for the event? >> you know, we have it's $12 per person. and you can come for two for $24 would like if you're a family for $50. then you are a member for an entire year so you can keep coming back. >> and members can get in free. >> members get in free. >> i love that. one of our favorites the plant doctor melinda mers is going to be there talking also right? >> she's going to be there also saturday 2:00. she has a huge fan club and just, such a great expert and wonderfulturee' really looking forward to that. >> we' fd of her too we
9:12 am
which is awesome. it is happening this friday and this saturday, what are your hoursta on friday? there 10:00 to 5:00. >> 10:00 to 5:00. okay. this friday, saturday you can see the blooming holidays a wonderful chance to see beautiful works of art also marketplace where you can purchase things too. loss right away just push towards the 30-pound loss or whatever that 10% number may be. how about metabolism in general, can some peoples metabolism be truly slower. you hear all the time my metabolism is slower their metabolism is so fast. >> absolutely. peoples metabolism are different. some people are taller, shorter, some are stronger, some are weaker. everyone is a little bit different, but most people fall into a pretty narrow r. they look at nutrition guidelines based on a 2,000-calorie diet. most people are around 2,000 calories. they have fancy machines withwhr particular metabolism. how many calories did you your body require to run di during te day. it's very helpful. >> can you reset your metabolism? let's say have you a low metabolism are there ways to speed it up and what are your favorite ways?

they show you what we can do for your budgetically. >> that's exciting. i think a lot of people probably do have a set budget when they start right? you can work with any budget. >> that's one of the first things we ask what is your budget for this? sometimes people don't want to say. we can design something for $80,000 or $30,000. we need to know where you want to go with that. >> it helps a lot to have a frame of reference. let's talk about some of the trends. this is the fun stuff about remodeling this space. there we're doing a lot of fancy hoods. the ones that look like copper or stainless steel. hoods are big. microwaves and islands are big. what else is big? >> what about with the island trends is it still marble, is it slate, is it what is the trend there? >> we're doing mixed counter tops now. we're doing like quartz on the island, and granite in the back or doing vice versa we're doing marbles too.
9:28 am
quartz and granite. >> and mixing those that sounds fun you get a much different look i would think with that. built in cabsnd doingtes to things like that, i see people doing kitchens having space to sort of showcase things whether it is a piece of art or, you know something in their kitchen to kind of give it a more decorative feel. >> we're doing that with pictures, with wine, we're doing wine built show off their wine we're doing that. so yeah. >> that's fun. >> how about for fridges refrigerators? >> we're building them in, but it's, it's a fridge still. [laughter] >> people used to do the panels on the front of the fridges not doing that anymore. kind of glad. >> oh, they are not? >> you mean where you hide it with the wood. that's true because it is like where is the fridge.
9:29 am
>> i do too. i think opening the space in the kitchen is a wonderful idea. we hit the point it's like that's where people tend to congregate. i feel like the kitchen is sort of the center of the universe. it's where the kids do the homework, where they eat, where parties happen where conversation happens. what about being certified. what should it mean to people? >> i think it is very important. i actually sit on the home spring showcase board for nari. nari vets their people to make sure they are good contractors if a homeowner did have a problem they would call nari and they would help with the situation see what is going on. if there was bad contractors i don't think they would be in there i think it's very important that all consumers for kitchens, baths, rec rooms whatever would go in and get a nari contractor. >> how long can someone expect a kitchen remodel to take? >> 7 to 9 weeks is a good time frame.

welcome back. most americans give more attention to planning their annual vacation than they do to planning their retirement. our next guest says if you don't time your social security start date correctly you dollars. matthew holbrook with country financial joins us with porch information -- important information on retirement and social security. i think that is a little scary to people right? >> i agree it's a lot of money not small. >> you don't want to lose that money. why is it so important, i would think just knowing that timing in general is one of the main reasons to work with someone like yourself? >> when you look at the benefit of how much money it is, given on average about a million
9:42 am
time that can go down to 600, 7 unhundred thousand thousand dollars by pulling out at the wrong time. a lot of peoples that is bigger than their ira's and 401(k)s things like that. >> a lot of people think of their social security benefit age at 65. people are living longer which is a good thing, that full benefit age is what 67 now? >> 67 now. >> so why is there a risk that comes with using their investments along with that social security? >> the big risk when i look at peoples accounts a l don't want to use all of the money they have saved their whole life. i don't know it's like you saved the whole time let's use some of this money. if you take your social security benefits early and pull money out of a 401(k) or ira that money is taxed 85% of social security will be taxed. say you get $48,000 a year that $12,000 is going to go to taxes. >> if you take when? >> if you take early in combination with your ira's or 401(k)s. >> gotcha.
9:43 am
out of those accounts you get taxed on the social security. i work on people with tax strategies. when you say $12,000 a year that's also not just a drop in the bucket it's a significant amount. >> oh, my gosh. using a mix of social security income is that inflation protected? >> it is inflation protected that is nice, nice job. >> that is inflation protected. so as you get older and people are living longer, that is protecting you from inflation, as opposed to a lot of people from investment when is you are >> a lot of people when think being ages they should plan to they think about 90. that's kd of what roughly you are like i will live until 90 you say don't plan until 90 you might run out. >> a lot of people will come in my office and the guy will say 85, the wife will be like -- i would rather you have money longer than expected and if you reason out what are you going to do just move in with the kids?
9:44 am
and who knows those kids might be out of state they don't want to you move in then you're going in some crazy home. just kidding. [laughter] >> cash flow tools is very important. this is something you sit down with people and you use so you can maximize social security benefits for clients. >> it doesn't take long. >> is it easy to understand? >> i try to make it easy by the end i promise the client they will understand it if they don't i tell them to ask me the question. but we plug in all of their numbers to figure out where the money should be coming from and just again a strategies in there and how you pull money out and how you get taxed. for example when you are 70 and a half, the government says 401(k)s and ira's you need to take money out because we want our taxes. if that is in a roth ira you don't have to take that money out it doesn't get taxed when you pull it out. so, you go from paying a lot of tax down to zero tax if you take 20 minutes to look at something as important as that. there nobody wants to waste

answered is at what age should i file for my benefits. at what age should my spouse file for benefits that is different. how do you make sure my spouse getting the largest survivor benefit and how do we know which of the common filing methods might be right for us. if one of us lives a long life how does that affect our decision? you can also claim from an exspouse right? >> say you were married for ten years and down the road that social security benefit becomes available they are taking that money. can in on the social security benefit where you get thatoney because you were married to that person. >> you are owed that. >> you are owed that a lot of people don't know that. >> yeah. well you know it's funny because, not funny, but my mom went through social security sa thing. my parentsere divorced early, but my dad has passed she was still able to collect on some of that social security, it allowed her to wait longer because otherwise she couldn't have and that waiting lger as you are saying is s important to be
9:46 am
>> because that benefit can get that much bigger. a lot of people want that money early because they think social security is not going to be here. >> it's fear. >> it's justify fear. >> how much is having a baby changed your investment style? >> i feel like now i'm just putting a lot of money away for her because i'm doing the things i wish i would have done. nikki thinks i'm a little crazy for doing this, but, it changes things. it really does and having a family now, you want to plan for them, plan a lot more moving parts. >> i think that is neat even for you work a lot with people with social security and that age, but also new parents i think it would be a great time to meet with you. do you charge people? >> zero. it doesn't cost anything to come to my office. you don't write me a check every year. some advisors do to it that way. can you meet me 12 times a year, one time a year. the biggest thing is just please come to the office please contact me let's get ahead of this a little earlier because
