9:07 am
way even when i was in college for music he was like can you tell them the real story about how it is, everyone always said you know what it is really hard and it's very uncertain, but that being said i wouldn't do anything different. you know what i mean. it's what i used to say to people if you can do anything else do it. for me it was tunnel vision. this is what i'm doing. everyone that talked to me would be like this guy is a loser who are you talking to? you kind of have to have provided of course that you have only ability. it's really more about working. i don't have hobs i don't golf. >> you made your hobby your life. >> play guitar all the time it's always that. i should really be better, but anyway. 9:15 am
evaluate and make changes if necessary. it happened on october 15, but do you know when it ends. it is time for insurance 101 with sovereign select. tom qualley is here with his true or false paddle we're going to have a simple, but important quiz about medicare. are you going to give me the true and false. >> you can ask me i will just do it. >> i think people need something to be focused on. this is a important thing that people can focus on to take care of their own health. take control. talk to you. here's aou going to do a quiz see if you can play along and get these correct. the first one open enrollment started october 15 and will end december 31 do you think it is true or false? the answer is false. >> what is the deal tom? >> it used to end december 31. a few years ago, actually, four or five years ago it used to end december 31 then it was changed and now it ends december 7.
9:16 am
>> i think that's hard for people. >> december 7th it's nice for us because we can actually enjoy the holidays a little more and things like that, but because we're so busy. but, with the change in timing, a lot of people don't realize that hey they got to get it done by december 7, and a lot of times december 15 we're getting calls or after christmas, hey i got to get this done when can i come in? i'm sorry it's too late. >> yeah. >> with the stability of the medicare advantage and prescron over the last five plus years, a lot of people haven't even really made changes or looked at their options that are out there and now that there is some changes in the market, this is the time to do it. we're half way through open enrollment already. >> is it like 20 business days left or something like that? >> 20 business days left. now is the time to make that call and really get that review. it doesn't cost anything to call sovereign select and talk to one of our agents and sit down with us and really hash out the
9:17 am
person specific's needs are. >> that's what i love. it doesn't cost anything, you put things side by side you simplify it. i think it can be so confusing. you really ask someone what is your needs what is important to you and you really base those decisions off of that and allow them to choose. >> yeah. we don't work for any specific insurance company. we're a broker so we have access to dozens of insurance companies out there. so customizing a program that meets each person's specific needs is us today. >> i know people are always so grateful when they save so much money. >> if a medicare recipient decides to enroll in or change to medicare advantage or part d prescription drug plan they must answer health questions and could be denied true or false tom? >> false. >> another false. woo. >> i think that's going to give people a lot of relief. they don't have to answer health questions they can't be denied? >> correct. there is one exception. there is one health question
9:18 am
ask, and that is do you have end stage renal disease kidney failure that requires dialysis. i usually say in meetings most people if you don't know what it is you probably don't have it. and it is a pretty rare disorder. so, outside of that realm, anybody no matter what their health qualifies for a plan change. a lot of people are worried about changing their health insurance plan because of preexisting conditions. there are they not going to cover certain medications or not going to cover certain treatments due to a previous condition i'm currently dealing with. the answer is no. they are going to cover that from day one, and can you qualify for making a plan change without answering any health questions. >> that's incredible. >> it's really great. >> people will probably wonder i have until december 7, the recent election just happened, is anything going to change in there or can i move forward?
9:19 am
>> where was i? >> who knew. who slept? >> can they go forward in changing these plans until december 7 and be confident what they are doing is going to stay? >> yes of course being confident is working with us. calling us and making sure that we're taking care of their needs and customizing a program for them will give them confidence at the end of the time they meet with us. >> i love that you do great group meetings. fridays are medicar1 educational events. no specific plans it is educational only. >> these meetings are so great. we get so much feedback from these meetings. people are so grateful they attended. these meetings are geared more towards people brand-new to medicare, they might be retiring, turning 65, they might be disabled and becoming eligible for medicare after their 24 month waiting period. getting into these meetings it doesn't matter if it's a few months ahead of time or few
9:20 am
knowledge to really start the process and understand what they need to do to get a plan that meets their immediates. >> important. the other ones are the medicare advantage group meetings. these actually do showcase specific medicare advantage plans correct available for 2017. you do need to reserve a spot for this and you do have license professionals on site. >> i'm the licensed professional. >> oh, good. [laughter] >> so you are there at these. >> i'm there just telling bad jokes teaching pe and they are just like. >> because they are just waiting for the bad punch line. >> i don't get it i'm the only one laughing so it's fun. >> good thing i did not go into comedy. >> i'm not a comedian no i'm not. i'm great at insurance though. [laughter] >> people can attend those. fridays again, those medicare 101 informational meetings only they are held every friday at 10:00 a.m. in your office in
9:21 am
there is one tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. then november 17 at 3:00 p.m. licensed agent will be present you should reserve your seat there is no cost for the event, but there will be again, tom there cracking really bad jokes. so the licensed agent present with sales materials and edge rollment applications at that. do call. no cost consultations always with sovereign select. here's the phone number to call tom or any of his the medicare 101 at his office onrookfield location. for any other appointments he will comoe t you or can you come to him. >> either one works for me thanks for having me on. well, i have been talking about medicare insurance, molly was getting her blood pressure checked. that's right. after the break the importance of regular tests and where you can go for a free screening this friday. are you freaking out are you doing good? >> i think i'm doing good so far.
9:22 am
9:24 am
9:25 am
dangerous health conditions such as heart attack and stroke. >> that's right. christy nyemeck is the director of admissions of herzing university in brookfield and monse salcido paz is a nursing student and they are here to talk more about blood pressure checks and careers in nursing. welcome to the morning blend you guys. >> thank you. >> good to see you. >> how did she do over there? >> she did pretty good 124 over 76. >> what do you want what is good? >> you usually want like a 110 to 120 it just it depends anything can give you a high reading like if you are anxious. >> like the election? >> like the election. >> definitely. [laughter] >> today might not be the best day to take your blood pressure. >> right. exactly. >> but yes, she was pretty good. >> okay. >> thank you. >> it is important to check it regularly right to know what your numbers are, because it is a pattern of high blood pressure
9:26 am
so like, um you know blood pressure screening is very important because it's a great preventive tool. it can help in promoting health and diagnosing any other underlying conditions that may cause high blood pressure. and s so yeah maintaining it and if you have any medications or need to make any lifestyle changes. it's always good to know. >> does the nurse do diagnosis off of a blood pressure reading? >> no. tension diagnosis is a medical diagnosis, but only doctors and nurse practitioners can do that. a nurse takes a reading and make a nursing diagnosis and a nursing care plan. what that means is we can either educate the patient or public about why it is important to have your blood pressure read, if you need to make any lifestyle changes we can tell you what those lifestyle changes should be.
9:27 am
yeah so like basically -- >> a lot of good info though? >> oh, yeah. we provide patients with resources they can use. if you can't go to the doctor regularly for you know whatever reason, if you go to the grocery store, they have the blood pressure machines that take your blood pressure. it's just like pointing patients into this direction of where they can find this resources so they can -- >> i think it is wonderful the hands on work you are doing because you're in your 6th semester right of nursing school.yo semesters left, hoping to graduate in august of 2017. [laughter] >> it seems like with herzing you're doing a lost hands on work. >> oh, yeah. i learned the first time i learned how to take a blood pressure was my anatomy and physiology class. when we really got into it and more practicing was in my health assessment class, my internal
9:28 am
of the hands on stuff like full head to toe, other nursing skills too. it was great. >> wonderful. >> i could not wait to get to that semester. >> i bet. all of that hands on experience that students get helps them place in jobs and makes them better graduates and such a great program you have. >> we want to simulate that high level of critical thinking so it puts them in situations where they are nervous. [laughter] >> and through these situations because that is so critical. the hands on part, this is going to be their job. >> that is fantastic. >> what about getting people signed up. so if people are interested in a career in nursing how does it work how do they get started ? >> if you with like monse you can call from california and we'll start having all of your conversations over the phone. but, you know, otherwise, just give us a call we'll have you come in for a campus visit.
9:29 am
virtual visit. you know whatever works. >> i think it is wonderful. you are doing these free blood pressure screenings you think it is that important talk about what is happening with that? >> on the 11th which is friday we have a big clothing drive going on. we're partnering with saint vincent depaul and the veterans office and we are doing a clothing drive. we're going to have free blood pressure screenings. she's going to be doing some of them. our nursing students will be doing the screenings. think it is 10:00 to 4:00. >> you will get a lost practice that day. >> oh, yeah. >> give a lot of advice that day right? >> exactly. >> i think that is wonderful. the free screenings are happening on the 11th. it's coming thumb friday from 10:00 to 4:00 by the nursing students there. if people bring used clothing you are partnering with the
9:30 am
this great clothing drive it serve families and people who are need or the homeless including military veterans and their families. it's a wonderful way to support our local community and get one of those important blood pressure screenings and it is absolutely free at herzing university brookfield. can you call them for a campus visit they are located on south executive drive where you are having the free blood pressure screenings going on on friday. phone number was on the screen toll free as well as local. >> great it meet you. >> i love it adorable. >> i agree congratulations to you. >> thank you. up next on the show it is all about pies from fruit to cream fillings what makes the ppies better than all of the

were higher. >> now there is a new tool to help you calculate your risk and identify top performing hospitals for your particular time of procedure. dr. archelle georgiou explains. >> the health grades risk iq tool gives people information about their individual risk for a complications for six common surgical procedures of the reason that is important, is that every surgical procedure has risk, but yournd risk is different based on who you are, your medical conditions and other parts of your history. so, just by entering some information about your personal risk factors into this risk iq tool, the tool automatically calculates whether or not your average, low or high risk and then tells the person the closest five star hospital, the closest high quality hospital where they can get that procedure done.
9:43 am
you can't control. you can't control your age, your sex, your gender, aspects of your medical history, but there are aspects there is a risk factor you can control, and that is where you choose to have your surgery. let me give you an example. if you need to have a hyster he hysterectomy, going to a five star hospital can you decrease your risk of complication by 60%. sometimes that hospital isn't the closest hospital to where you live so we you know your risk, you can make an informed decision about whether or not you want to bypass your local hospital to maybe go to the hospital that is further away that is going to give you the better outcome. so let me give you some examples. in the milwaukee area, 90% of people live within 5 miles of any hospital, if they need to get a total knee replacement. but 74% of people would have to
9:44 am
that same surgery. again in milwaukee, 82% of people live within five miles of any hospital performing a hysterectomy, but 71% of them would have to drive more than 5 miles to get to a five star hospital for that same surgery. so, the point is, is that there may be a hospital close by, but, knowing your risk lets you make a decision about whether o to the hospital that is going to give you the chance of a better outcome. this tool gives you the information about your risk so you can better make that decision. go to healthgrades.com and click on the health risk iq tool and take the risk iq tool test for any one of six procedures. healthgrades.com. up next we'll meet this guy

9:51 am
amazing for me. how in a week it was ten pounds that's good it's working. so it's not, it's working i'm taking control of what i'm eating and what i'm consuming and how much water i can take and everything that sometime, we don't pay attention to that. we have to go and have a program, a program like this that you can be create conscious of yourself. >> bit tha that hey i do have control over my weight. think so often so many of us feel we don't. and that no matter what we do it doesn't work. and so to finally see those numbers drop, finally feel your clothes feel different. to see something work. >> i was 304-pound when is i went to the program. i'm now at 259. that is, amazing.
