10:01 am
>> i'm excited to be back. i love it here. just like family. thank you for having me. >> you got a little something -- >> last time i was here, actually, i had just gotten it. >> really subtle. it's funny one of those things that just kind of disappears when you have it for a long time. >> it's so stunning. i want one. >> super tiny. >> did it hurt? that means yes. >> it depends on your pain tolerance. you flick your nose or something happens or you undergrounds and if you touch it, it hurts. that's what happened for about a month. >> jordyn is coming in hot. >> i want to be honest. everybody has their own pain level. i have tattoos, as well. needles and stuff doesn't scare me. >> that is exactly why she rose to fame. i feel like we've known you forever. >> okay. it's about to be ten years -- >> 2007. take a look at this.
10:02 am
>> look at that hair. >> is that okay? >> go for it. ? you were always there for me the tender wind that ? ? carried me a light in ? >> only a few people behind me. it was season six. >> simon. because of you ? >> i was so happy i hit that note. it worked! >> oh, my gosh. >> that's amazing. >> really crazy to think about. it's kind of like a twilight zone feeling because i feel like it was just yesterday and then i think about it, it's been ten years since i auditioned. i auditioned in 2006 and the live shows didn't start until
10:03 am
because i was such a blessing. i had no idea what to expect and i knew i believed in myself but "idol" was at i pandemonium at the time. i could win. i believe that i could. >> there you go. >> it's just amazing. >> then you go on to be an amazing actress. >> oh, thank you. i appreciate that. >> "sparkle" you just light up everything you do. the music continues. >> you have a new film coming out early "god bless the broken road." >> it's really amazing, actually. it's very much the -- >> oh, my gosh. >> it's actually very fitting for today. today is veterans day and the lovely blond that you see right there her name is amber in the film and she loses her husband in afghanistan. so, it's all about her kind of losing her faith and trying to get back from the broken road that she's on and trying to, you know, maneuver her way and i
10:04 am
you know, it was actually a lot of how i would respond if my friends were in trouble or my mom. they needed that shoulder to cry on. just very encouraging film. and i think it's going to be really amazing. the other really cool thing about it is that disabled american veterans we are, i'm an ambassador for them, but a part of the proceeds from the film go to them. >> i don't think i ever heard of that before. that the proceeds go directly to a veterans organization. that's beautiful. >> i thinks great. anybody who sees it will come ou encouraged. i feel like they're going to be better than when they walked out. >> what is so great about this you're seeing more and more of it, that there are these great faith-based films coming out that are addressing, you know, real need that's out there and a real desire i think people have. >> i think people -- hope and faith is something that people sometimes they don't realize they need it until they hear a song or they see that movie or
10:05 am
then it changes them, right? it makes them want to do the same thing for somebody else and i think, you know, now more than ever we need hope and we need faith and love and kindness and life is about choices. we choose to be happy. i'm going to choose to be happy and choose to love and i hope that somebody see the example and does the same thing. >> you're just infectious. >> in a good way. >> in a plague way. your happiness is infectious. so mean. >> yes. >> we have a picture of him. >> yes. >> there you are with your body guard and your stepdad james also a vet. you spent time at the national training center in san bernardino and i was told you were put through your paces. is that true? >> i got to train with them. they built a town and a city -- >> look at you. >> gear and everything. i didn't get to wear the fatigues, but, i mean, i think that's about 40 pounds of gear. like there's a vest and a vest
10:06 am
>> but -- >> i got lucky. they said there's certain packs where it's like, you know, somebody gets the skittles and everybody kind of fights over it. hey, you had skittles yesterday. i want to support the troops any way i can and to actually go and to actually train with them and see what they go through because you think about it and it's not your reality if you don't have anybody who is currently serving or you haven't gone through the experience. but holding that gun and like how it would be if they went over seas. and if you haven't been, it's definitely very interesting. but i appreciate them. >> one of the things that changed my life was doing a uso tour with jay leno and craig
10:07 am
base and i will never look at it the same way. >> my dad was in the army for 30 years. you grow up in a home and see this perspective. and our nation appreciates the sacrifice and a lot of companies today are saying thank you in special ways to active military members. they are offering discounts and deals. for example, applebe's free menu from a special meal. that's november 12th through the 27th. >> red, white and blue for vets and bridges across america an organization offering free wedding gowns. >> brides acros america. >> brides across america. wedding gowns to veterans and active military. for more information, go to bridesacrossamerica.com. send us your wedding pictures.
10:08 am
feel-good friday. >> oh, it is. >> we love this picture that jordyn sent. >> i haven't seen it yet. >> it's so cute! >> let's see it. >> i am a crayon. >> that's adorable. >> this wasn't for halloween. >> this was for her birthday. her birthday is october 25th and she just turned 3. >> what is her name? >> ava. that's my little one, ava. she has a brother or sister on the way, too. know. so, i wanted, she called me elsa and i was like, i'm going tatry to be an elsa for her and i couldn't find a dress and i turned around and saw all the crayon and i was one of her favorite things to do. >> the only elsa costume left was a sexier elsa.
10:09 am
>> as we continue, up next, we have got a first look at the newest kardashian. wow. you'll never guess her name. it does not begin with a k. which is why we are now using 100% antibiotic and hormone free white breast meat chicken in all of our chicken soups! behold our greatest opus. t spells? it spells ?soup!? soup is our opus! and we create with glorious chicken. migraines steal moments from my life. so i use excedri it starts to relieve migraine pain in just 30 minutes. and it works on my symptoms, too. now moments lost to migraines are moments gained with excedrin.

10:11 am
xarelto? significantly lowers the risk of stroke in people with afib not caused by a heart valve problem. it has similar effectiveness to warfarin. warfarin interferes with vitamin k and at least six blood clotting factors. xarelto? is selective targeting one critical factor of your body's natural clotting function. for people with afib currently well managed on warfarin, there is limited information on how xarelto and warfarin compare in reducing the risk of stroke. like all blood thinners, don't stop taking xarelto without talking toour doctor, a blood clot or stroke. while taking you may bruise more easily, d it may take longer for bleeding to stop. xarelto may increase your risk of bleeding if you take certain medicines. xarelto can cause serious, and in rare cases fatal bleeding. get help right away for unexpected bleeding, unusual bruising or tingling. if you have had spinal anesthesia while on xarelto watch for back pain or any nerve or muscle related signs or symptoms. do not take xarelto if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding.
10:12 am
before starting xarelto tell your doctor about any conditions, such as kidney, liver or bleeding problems. to help protect yourself from a stroke, ask your doctor about xarelto. there's more to know. xarelto. happy friday. back now with more of "today's take" with our special co-host, jordin sparks. my phone is blowing up with everyone -- i sparks! >> thank you, guys. i love you. >> something we love, like talking about. we know the kardashians. i'm kind of obsessed, i'll admit it. blac chyna, rob kardashian, they welcomed their daughter yesterday. everyone wondered her name. she's awfully adorable. she decided and settled on dream rene kardashian. she was born at 9:18 a.m. at
10:13 am
l.a. the family's already posting photos and video of the baby. how much did you weigh? >> i think i was 8 pounds. 8 or 9 maybe. >> is that big? >> i was 4 pounds 10 ounces. >> you were a preemie? i thought i knew everything about you. >> yeah. >> well, blac chyna, rob and their families -- this is kind of epic -- they did the manikin challenge while blac chyna was delivering. please look at this. look. there it was. us >> whoa! >> that's blac chyna's mom. that's rob. don't know who that is. but they did -- that is awesome! >> i wonder if the baby knew. >> she'll have that for now when they watch baby's first video. >> i love how you see the up si >> she'll always hav it.
10:14 am
>> it depends on -- i guess it depends on how people see privacy in their life. >> they have a reality show. everything is out there. >> obviously. >> okay. moving on. >> that was almost too muc out there. thi weekend you might go to a concert or live performance. etiquette. what to do and what not to do. that's always controversial. >> okay. "wall street journal" has a round-up of some of the worst behavior at concerts. taking photos with the flash on. >> agreed. >> at a concert, a live >> but the lights are on the -- you're a performer. does that bother you? >> record all you want if it is permitted. the flash is just kind of unnecessary because the stage is lit already. you don't need a flash. >> it hurts your photo. >> yeah. >> shushing people nearby. i guess if they are singing along. >> i think it is situational though. you know how people after they sing, they're telling a story and people just want to be loud or whatever. some people want to listen and some people only want to hear the song.
10:15 am
i'm look -- woo! i'm very vocal at a concert. >> i'm an old guy, so standing. these fol w stand t whole time when others are sitting and they're blocking your view. that's why they sell seats. okay? >> i know! >> that's because you're so caught up in the mome. >> okay. for the moment! not for a whole concert. >> then sit down. okay, all right. >> again, i think it is situational, too. also how you ask people. woulyou mind sitting? >> arriving late and pushing to the front. >> i don't like that. no one likes that. we all know we don't like that. >> then climbing on someone's shoulders to get a better view. >> unless you're 3, do not get on someoneelse's shoulders. >> you're at a dora the explo concert, don't do that. that goes back to, c, standing wheneople are ing.tt you are now blocking everybody. >> there'ssually a little beverage involved. now i got a question.
10:16 am
are you able to see us like -- do you see us screaming for you? >> it depends on the venue i think. i like to see the audience and for the most part like sometim a spotlight is so brit that i can'tee past like maybe the first or second row. i've actually asked them -- i'm like i don't need that spotlight, it's light outside, we're good. i want to see everybody, look at them. because it is an experience for me ast is for the audience member, too. i'm singing these songs for you. i hope you relate something out of it so i want to be able to see. >> do you think drake would have liked to have seen this when i took my daughter to him a few years ago? >> oh, lord. >> and he saw this. >> this is al. he was at drake. >> it was like a five-hour -- >> the manikin challenge. >> you started it! >> i did. >> you should get credit for this. you started is the manikin challenge. >> yes, i did. >> it just depends.
10:17 am
taking her. >> n anymore. >> talk about seeing people, i remember drake was doing this thing, he was going, girl in the leopard pants, i see you. girl up there with the -- i love that hair, i see you he couldn't see them. but they loved it. they loved it. >> you knew somebody was wearing leopard. >> there were 3,000 people wearing leopard pants! i see you, hey you, waiting for the weather. i see you right now. let's gthatoo map. i see you. feel me? i feel you. i feel that wet weather coming up through the gulf coast. i feel that rain coming along the pacific northwest. i still can't get blac chyna's picture out of my mind. we got 80s making their way through the southwest and into southern california. 80s in southern florida. chilly through the great lakes and we are looking at more wet weather making its way into the pacific northwest. tumbling temps around the great lakes. plenty sunshine here in the

10:30 am
we first fell in love with ryan phillippe back in 1999 after his role at sebastian in intentions." he was in the 2004 film "crash" which nabbed academy award for best picture. >> ryan is coming to the small screen with a new usa series "shooter" based on the 2007 mark wahlberg movie of the same name. he plays a u.s. marine veteran brought back into action to help prevent a plot to kill the president. >> good to see you. >> you, too. >> even though you were hard to track down.
10:31 am
remote? >> my people. i just like to see them how'she? >> don't tnk i'll be in cirque de soleil any time soon. is this a friendly call or secret service business? coat of the day, right? >> you really don't miss a thing, do you? >> ryan, good morning. >> good morning. >> i loved that movie. this one is kind of based on it, but how does this one differ a the book that "shooter" the movie was based on is called "point of impact." the character i played in the book was a veteran in vietnam. in mark's movie he was a veteran of desert storm. my veteran now is a character of the afghanistan theater. also in the series bob lee swagger has a wife and child which he didn't in the film version. that grounds the show emotionally, dramatically. and then there is lots of twists
10:32 am
omar is incredible in the show. it is very different. people who enjoy the book and the movie will also enjoy the series but it is not a retelling. >> it stands on its own. >> absolutely. >> that's awesome. what was it like training for the role of a former marine? i'm sure the mental has as much to do with it as just the physical? >> it absolutely does. especially if you talk about the technique behind being a sniper. it is very zen, very meditative. focus on your breathings, e your heartbeat can throw off the accuracy of the shot. i shot with the chief of the sniper school in the marine corps. i hit a 12-inch target at 900 yards. >> you did? >> yeah. >> hello! >> so it's legit. what you are seeing is real. i worked hard. >> do you transfer any of that zen behavior to your every day life? it seems like after training for something like that i would go to my zen spot every day. >> little bit. i'm trying to meditate a little bit here and there. .
10:33 am
>> you got something you're very proud of. you got an announcement to make. >> yeah. well, i've recently become an ofirm ambassador for hiddenheroes.org. hidden heroes is an organization based around military care givers and providing resources and support and a network for those who take care of our disabled vets. this show -- so i spent time yesterday at the medical center he talk with some of the families and the vets and see exactly how hidden heroes is making a difference for these individuals. i was really inspired yesterday. i could have spent -- >> gives you such perspecti on life. >> it absolutely does. i feelen times our veterans feel discarded or maybe they are afraid to ask for help, too proud to ask for help because these are men and women who have stared death in the eyes. now they're home and they're wounded and they're sort of afraid to ask for help. and so it is a great thing that
10:34 am
to help support them and get the word out. >> i love that. hidden everywhere. there's heroes everywhere. i love that. >> one of the things your series i think you are very proud of, you were honored with a got your six project. because of the way the show portrays a veteran. >> absolutely. i've done fair amount of military theme projects in my life. i come from a military family. so i've worked with got your six in the past. what they do, they're trying to position -- the veteran who's teflon, bulletproof or we see the veteran who is homeless and needs a handout. so got your six is about trying to find that spot in the middle that then -- in their communities veterans will be regarded differently and not seen as one or the other. >> real people. three-dimensional people. >> yes. >> ryan, thank you so much. appreciate it. >> show's good. i'm telling you. >> we want to also thank you the

this morning on "today food," sausage stuffing two ways. all month we've been cooking up thanksgiving dishes to help you plan your holiday meal. joining me this morning, my pal, bo mcmillan, executive chef of sanctuary camelback mountain resort and spa in arizona. he makes his sausage stuffing one way, i make mine. i'm not going to say better, just a little differen but it is all beautiful because it alls up stuffing. >> it's all gravy!
10:40 am
chestnut, breadcrumbs, on jobs, eggs, apple. this is a simple, traditional recipe. grew up in plymouth, massachusetts. keep is simple. the home of thanksgiving. i've added onions and celery diced to the sausage. just kind of sweat that until it is translucent. once that's done, your base is ready for your stuffing. i've got some awesome brioche. real buttery and it also keeps your doesn' let it dry out. 's really, really nice. >> very airy. >> exactly. put that into the pan. once those brioche cubes are in there, just basically sweat off a little bit of sugar and butter. that's where the chestnuts and apples go then you are ready to fold in everything here. beautiful. want to season it up, of course. fresh parsley. i've got some beautiful thyme. i've got some awesome sage. don'te scared with it.
10:41 am
then we're going to add a little bit of chicken stock. then and the cid viner. >> adds a little sweetness to it. >> give it a little salt and pepper. that's important. now you are ready to mix this bad boy and get it into your casserole dish. one of my tricks, we put -- for 500 people on tnksgiving we cook for 500 people we mix it up real good, then butter and line the pa 350. you are ready to rock 'n' roll. >> you put it in the oven and it comes out looking like this. do you like to bake yours separately or put it in the turkey? >> turkey. old school. >> yes! nobody's gotten sick doing that. >> exactly. >> come on, people! i'm going to do a little cornbread stuffing. cranberries, chestnuts. they made me put celery. i don't like celery.
10:42 am
same kind of thing, brown off the sausage. then once we do that, we kind of t rid of that a put it in a pan. and then what we're going to do is take some of the onion, sweat that down. we've got some sage and rosemary. and again, notng the celery. >> i like tt you are bringing the meet with the spicy sausage. >> thank you very much. we take that, we've got our throw this in. here's the deal. with the cornbread, can you buy the cornbread ahead of time. let it sit for a day or two so it gets a little stale. or, you can make your own and let it sit for a while. now you've got your cornbre cubed. for a little sweetness, i went with cranberries. >> nayive to massachusetts. very nice call. >> chestnuts. it's nice, it is a sweetness, a little meatiness. then you take your onions and
10:43 am
if you put it in there and of course your lovely stock. we're going to pour in that, thank you very much. >> what kind of stock? >> little turkey or chicken stock if you want. little salt and pepper. >> and we are cooking. >> again, same thing. we put it in a buttered casserole dish. >> you guys are very similar. >> yes. basically, the difference being the cornbread. >> great minds think alike. >> you bake it again and -- boom. there you have it. cornbread, your basic finale of the spooning. where is the spooning. >> spooning? >> you and i. suddenly it took a turn. >> love you, al. >> happy thanksgiving, everybody. >> hold on a second. thanks so much. for these recipes head to today.com/food and remember on november 23rd we've having a prethanksgiving celebration on our plaza. 30 chefs and a whole lot of surprises.
10:44 am
coming. >> thank you. all right. >> let's take a look at your latest forecast. i can do this all day. >> let's take a look at your weekend, your outlook. unseasonably warm through the plains. plenty of sunshine making its way through the great lakes. and we've got wet weather in the pacific northwest. sunday -- sunday -- we are looking at heavy rain in the pacific northwest. it is going to be toasty in the midsection of the country. little wet weather also making its way through the southeast.
10:45 am
>> bo, this is spectacular. >> it is spectacular, bo. >> we don't even really need the turkey. >> i know! just the stuffing. >> one of my favorite things. coming up next, we're going to make this sffg disappear but musician jason bishop is here to make some things disappear. let's just say you're going to be amazed. after these messages. and at progressive, we let you compare our progressive direct rate... great deals for reals! ...and our competitors' rates side-by-side, so you know you're getting a great deal. saving the moolah. [ chuckles ] as you can see, sometimes progressive isn't the lowest. not always the lowest! jamie. what are you doing? -i'm being your hype man. not right now. you said i was gonna be the hype man. no, we said we wouldn't do it. i'm sorry, we were talking about savings. i liked his way. cha-ching! talking about getting that moneeeey! talking about getting that moneeeey! savings worth the hype. now that's progressive. liste of bad breath germse.

a latest generation blood thinner. then i made the switch. xarelto? significantly lowers the risk of stroke in people with afib not caused by a heart valve problem. it has similar effectiveness to warfarin. warfarin interferes with vitamin k and at least six blood clotting factors. xarelto? is selective targeting one critical factor of your body's natural clotting function. for people with afib currently well managed on warfarin, there is limited information on how xarelto and warfarin compare like all blood thinners, don't stop taking xarelto without talking to your doctor, as this may increase your risk of a blood clot or stroke. while taking you may bruise more easily, and it may take longer for bleeding to stop. xarelto may increase your risk of bleeding if you take certain medicines. xarelto can cause serious, and in rare cases fatal bleeding. get help right away for unexpected bleeding, unusual bruising or tingling. if you have had spinal anesthesia while on xarelto watch for back pain or any nerve or muscle related signs or symptoms.

tell your doctor before all planned medical or dental procedures. before starting xarelto tell your doctor about any conditions, such as kidney, liver or bleeding problems. to help protect yourself from a stroke, ask your doctor about xarelto. there's more to know. xarelto. please bow your heads. and i'm just grateful that we can all be here in this moment. i'm thankful for my family and that they care about me. we've been through a lot of trauma no matter what color we are, no matter what uniform we got on. you guys are my family. nothing more important than family today. it's good to be together. lets enjoy.
