is in your makeup bag with merle norman. contouring and highlighting is a trend here to stay. our next guest says it's one of the top questions their customers ask about. >> renee and beth are here they are merle norman studio owners here with a great kit that takes out the guess work of contouring. we just did a girl's beauty product party. the biggest thing everybody was talking about was contouring. this is a big trend here to stay right? the reason is why is contouring great for all of us? >> none of look. [laughter] >> so true. >> my nose is too big, i have a double chin, i don't have cheek bones. >> it helps with all of those things. >> it helps with all of those things. >> love it. >> fake it until you make it. tell us about your kit. you have this kit people can buy. >> i'm going to blame that beautiful moon, but i left the kit at home so we're just going to pretend it's here. >> that's okay.
9:18 am
it has the contour and highlight all in one compact. it's a completely new formula for us. so the formula is very very smooth, and silky almost melts into the skin. and the color of the contour is very cool. and that's really important. you know for the summertime it is really fun to contour with bronzers because you want all of that warmth in the skin, but a true contour like a shadow is gray. >> interesting. you're right. >> what we diagram. just for like the 101 of contouring the idea is, we're going to get to like your nose is too big or blah blah blah. but the main idea is what to lighten up certain parts of the face and darken up other parts. you have a a more sculpted face where the cheek bones are highlighted, -- >> so you don't have that flat look. like on the first photo you can see it's very flat looking. okay so now the second one is obviously exaggerated you would
9:19 am
>> right that's halloween, but. >> we generally want to contour around the shape of the face, you know underneath the cheek bone, but then you want to go light to center the face. so bring it into the center. >> all of that white is the lighter color. >> it's the lighter color yeah. >> then you blend, blend, blend, blend, blend. >> why is it important to figure out and how do you figure out your face shape? >> what you can do is pull your hair back, look in the mirror and if you want, if you are having trouble figuring itut and draw the outline of your face. >> interesting. >> if i pull my hair back can you tell me what shape my face is. >> you probably have done some highlighting contouring. >> what kind of shape do i have? >> i would say an oval. >> definitely oval. >> i'm long. >> you are oval too. maybe a little bit going to a diamond. >> yeah. >> oh, the little diamond.
9:20 am
>> long. >> you both have oval faces that's why you are great for tv. the oval face is what our eye thinks is the ideal face. >> go. >> there you go. >> what we want to do with that highlighted contouring is create that oval illusion on on a very round face. >> we have just over a minute. this is really important the brushes. i have three. i have the highlighter here, this is an angled brush. foundation angle brush. there this is the best brush ever. make sure you get that. >> this brush right here really really good. >> this is one of our holiday sets and all of those brushes are in this set. >> woe get the holiday brush set. i'm going to hand you this brush which should i give you first? >> beth has already contoured so we're going to take the angle brush and she would have taken the darker color and so the
9:21 am
do is sculpt out the cheek bones. if you find the tab of your ear to come forward to the outside corner of your eye you will feel you're underneath the cheek bone there. so you can actually feel that if you go like this. and then take your brush and you're going to press that color in. >> okay. >> like so. >> doing good so far ladies. >> then we want to soften around the edges. >> okay that's how you get rid of the double chin. >> you can go like this. [laughter] >> and then color it. >> yeah. [laughter] >> make it real dark. >> then you would take your smaller brush. the general rule of highlighting and contour, wherever you contour you highlight the opposite area. >> this is really important where you highlight. >> down the center of the face like that, and sometimes -- >> show on the cheek again we didn't have a shot right when you did it. >> that's where you highlight. >> what if you have a crooked nose a nose that is too big.
9:22 am
mirror and you see where the shadows are, if your nose is crooked one side will appear deeper. the deeper side is where you put your highlight. >> people can visit you guys and say i have this crooked nose how do i apply contour so i can fix it without surgery. >> without surgery, it's painless, fix it. >> you still have a free gift going on right? >> yeah we're extending it another week because of the election. >> that's nice of you guys. there too. >> it is great. fat lash mascara, eye cream, the dual action concealer and lip polish. >> ask for the gift. it's with purchase with the purchase of two or more products. get the brush kit and the contour kit you are set. brookfield square, hales corners highway 100 between grinning and edgerton. highway 16 and brown street in oconomowoc and west bend. go to merle norman.com for

love seeing you guys. thank you so much. thank you. happy thanksgiving. >> you too. coming up parents when you are divorced a guide to help parents raise happy healthy kids despite the breakup. a psychologist who specializes in kids and families and a divorce attorney who has worked with hundreds of couples
9:26 am
welcome back to the morning blend. statistics show that 50% or half of all kids in america will deal with a divorce of their parents. chances are if you are divorced, you're worried about the effect that decision will have on your children. so today, how to coparent with an ex, so you can raise happy healthy kids. >> we called on a couple pros for advice, dr. john duffy a clinical psychologist, best selling author and nationally recognized specialist in kids and also joining us susan hansen practices family law with an emphasis on collaborative divorce and mediation. also the cofounder of a new resource called the family mediation center. thanks for being here you guys. >> thank you for having us. >> this is great. i think people get really scared about the word divorce if they are you know if they got kids and dealing with it. i come have a divorced family. i think it can be very successful when done right and if there is a lot of
9:27 am
the beginning because i think that's where kids sort of get caught in the crossfire. where does that start? what do you think is so challenges for parents and kids when that moment begins to be more regular? >> you know i find that you know, the issues of the divorce bleed into parenting. i think the mighty thing for parents to do is to separate the two and make their goal instead of trying to forge their relationship in a different way coparenting relationship. easier said than done for sure, but if that's the goal that we're going to work in the best interest of our kids and that's our new relationship, our new model, and that's the way they look at their life going forward, then i think it can work out. >> does coparenting mean friends? >> great question. >> yeah i think it has to mean friendly communication because i think it's the hardest work a couple can do.
9:28 am
physically, emotionally, financially. at the same time we're asking them to work as coparent partners. it's a very challenging thing. coupled with the stigma of divorce that says if you are divorcing you must be in conflict. when in fact for the sake of your children you don't have that option to walk away. you have to do the work of ending a marriage and yet also being healthy parents for a lifetime. >> great parents both of you. so curious about what kids s now so you work more with a divorcing couple. i know in your experience you have a lot of interaction with child specialists who worked with the children and parenting who talk about the kids so first john what do people say in your office kids who's parents are going through a divorce? >> i think this is tougher emotionally on the kids then parents really have any idea. sometimes kids want to protect their parents while they are divorcing they know they are going through a lot, but kids
9:29 am
their foundation is shaken a little bit. they feel less safe kind of like, family has kind of really fallen apart and that's not necessary in the wake of a divorce. you can still feel very much like a family, but if there is conflict, you know and it is ongoing and persistence and chronic, i think that's really really tough on kids and not always tell their parents what that is like. >> what do you hear i had this list youre 8-year-old to their mom and dad it is like don't be mean. >> early in my career i did a lot of work as a guardianed a lightum. i did interview children then. now i leave that to the experts like john. we have wonderful child specialists in our area who can help parents and help give children a voice. the message overall, including these rules from an 8th be peaceful don't talk about each other, no fighting, what they
9:30 am
to be nice to each other, and they don't want to be in the middle of their parent's divorce like a rope in a tug-of-war. that message and the pain you see of those children i agree with john their life could be turned up side down and the parents have to rise to the occasion to help them through it. >> i think it's tough because people everybody knows the situation where the couple just is so angry, it oozes out of them. and you can't help, but feel that tension and that anger when at the a so i think the work adults have to do to work through their own issues is really important. you know when you talk about kids being affected what is the worst thing that parents can do that could affect their kids negatively? >> what we know from every study that john is an expert in is it is conflict that harms children not divorce. >> say that again. >> it's conflict that harms
9:31 am
restructuring of a family, it does not have to mean the family is detried. -- destroyed. for children it's about reducing conflict, but just not fighting in my opinion isn't enough. you also have to have low conflict and high communication. they have to work at being coparent partners. >> yes. >> low conflict high communication. good stuff right? >> i agree completely. to the extent you can bring consistey partial of the same so your kids aren't forever adapting to a different point of view and different way of being in their homes the better. >> let's talk about maybe blended families. do couples often move too quickly to introduce their children, their families to a new partner and do they often move too quickly to get married or enter a serious relationship with someone new? >> yes. [laughter] >> and i echo yes.
9:32 am
partner we forget the impact it has on the kids. it's so important to take that pause, check in with your kids frequently. talk about how you feel about the new partnership, this new relationship and to really listen, w and even if you hear what you don't want to hear to acknowledge what you are hearing in your kids and recognize this is going to be a process for them. this is going to be a process for your kids. >> i see that a lot with children who are the secret holders. so the parents aren't communicating well so one starts to be involved there is a significant other and they say, don't tell your dad, don't tell your mom. that is toxic for children. >> that's awful. >> and the children are put in an impossible situation so again, we're back to the high communication. >> uh-huh. >> kids should never be asked to keep a secret.
9:33 am
couples who are considering divorce or separation? what is your final parting?? advice? >> my advice is to see someone like john, who is child and family specialist to help navigate. just because you are not arguing doesn't mean you don't neat the expertise, the education and help. i can do that as a legal expert, but i think what we're realizing is that bringing in child and family expertise is really going to form that good foundation that john has talked about. >> really quick we time, but that's why you have the family mediation center. you see a trend toward having happier healthier kids if you get the right experts involved in the beginning. not litigating a divorce, but trying to mediate or do it collaboratively right? >> we want to have mediators as neutral experts to help people navigate. so you have an out of court settlement. don't use the courts to resolve issues about your children.
9:34 am
here's information so you can get help. dr. john duffy his podcasts are at dr. john duffy.com. and the family mediation center .org. there is a phone number on the screen (414)939-6707 to find help. thanks you guys. >> thank you for having us. >> appreciate it that was fantastic. medicare plans can be so confusing, but the plan you choose can have a big effect on
9:35 am
john, we're giving you a raise. that's fantastic! but i'm gonna pass. who says no to more? are you ok? time warner cable internet gives you more of what you and those little data hoggers want. like ultra-fast speeds up to 50 megs. that's 8x faster than dsl. this internet speed is sick. get 15 meg internet with no data cap starting at $39.99 a month. call now. would rex pass up more beef stew? i don't think so.
9:37 am
welcome back. if you are 65 or older you need to know one very important date, it december 7. the end of medicare open enrollment. this is your one chance to make changes to your healthcare covera fits your budget, covers healthcare needs and addresses medical issues you might not expect. christopher abbott is the ceo of united healthcare. he is here with more on the importance of the enrollment period. he is a busy guy this time of the year. >> a lost running around. >> we had a big election on november 8, but for people who are on medicare or soon to be on medicare there is another important election and that is the one we're >> right now right?
9:38 am
medicare open enrollment period. everyone on medicare has an opportunity to elect the right coverage for 2017. for most people this is the only time when they pick their plan for next year. it's important get out there shop the medicare candidates so to speak, but definitely make sure you are taking action and you have the right plan for 2017. >> medicare advantage has experienced very rapid growth over the last couple years and people enrolling. what is medicare advantage, and thha driving that growth? is it all of the baby boomers what is the reasoning for it? >> i think the reason why medicare advantage is growing so fast and over the last five years we've had a 50% growth in enrollment and only 18% growth on actual medicare eligible. people are going i love this stuff it's great. we take medicare part a and b. put it into a single package. one card, one convenience. one program.
9:39 am
on. we're able to add on additional benefits that medicare doesn't cover, but we to things like dental coverage, vision coverage, you know making sure all of that is really built in together. the other thing we add that is essential for medicare eligibles is financial protection, with an out of pocket maximum. protecting your wallet is part of it. most people with u united healthcare are low or additional program. >> you mentioned also hearing which is huge for medicare population. gym memberships, disease management programs sometimes still for zero monthly premium which is incredible. let's talk about open enrollment it can be very confusing. you offer some things to help people through the decision making process. >> sure i think one of the ways to think about this is concept of choice, care, and experience. so choice, you really need to take a look at what plan do you have today?
9:40 am
is it going to continue to work for you next year? part of that is looking at how it impacts your health and wallet. most people like at the peopleus at first number, but you need to look at all of the cost sharing that comes out. in that care category looking at the hospitals and doctors you are going to see today, are they part of the plan? can you continue to do it? united healthcare is really proud of the fact we work with all of the hospital systems, and the greater milwaukee area so whether coelom unia st. mary -- columbia st. mary's. are the additional benefits make sense for you whether that is a fitness club membership or the ability to take your benefits with you on the road as you travel. >> that's one of the things that is new for me to hear. i haven't heard talk about that as much. you think about healthcare being
9:41 am
is that new or something we just don't talk about as much? >> people always tend to think about their healthcare when they are sick. we want to move that to how can we work on your overall wellness. so for example, i joke a little bit, but ben franklin was part of the inspiration for united healthcare an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. we see this works. this is why questi we have o sneakers program. if we can get our elders up and moving we can help with their strength, balance. better wellness, better outcomes and lower costs. >> so glad you mentioned that about falling of the prevention is pretty simple the balance and flexibility. lastly because it is so confusing i think people are overwhelmed and get so much information.
9:42 am
really help people right? >> there are great ones. if you want to brush up on how medicare works medicare made clear.com. this time of year is really about shopping for the right plan. medicare.gov is a great place to look for that. as well as united healthcare give us a call we can have an agent meet with you. community meetings resource centers where you can sign up on the phone or online. take action before december 7. >> that's what theiv looks like there. here's the website uhc medicare plans.com. you can call united healthcare at (800)991-6872. also contact medicare made clear.com. 800 medicare or 486-2048 it is 24/7 for those resources and
