hacked to influence the u.s. election. we spoke to a top russian law maker today who said that russia simply wouldn't do it and that if any russians were involved, they were acting individually. but that said, it's clear that russia is enjoying this, even relishing it. after all, they're not getting hillary clinton who president vladimir putin personally hated. instead they're getting donald trump, who many in the kremlin feel they can do business with, no questions asked. so, the reaction here lester? >> richard ingles in moscow, thanks. another day, another tweet and another american company knocked on its heels by the president-elect. this time it's another about the price of a military program, specifically the cost of a fighter jet he says is out of control. nbc's peter alexander has more. >> reporter: notice the joint strike fighter, the f-35 largely designed to be invisible to fly. today it avoid landing on donald trump's radar. the president-elect on

costs as out of control, insisting billions of dollars can and will be saved. that tweet taking its toll on the f-35's prime contractor, lockheed martin. its share price falling more than 5%. its market value dropping $4 billion. trump's fierce criticism came just as the israeli air force received its first f-35 delivered by defense secretary ash carter. >> israel is our first and only friend he f-35. >> reporter: but dominating the skies doesn't come cheap. the f-35 is the pentagon most expensive weapon program with an estimated cost of nearly $400 billion. the company today said it's worked aggressively to slash the price tag. >> they understand the importance of affordability for the f-35 program. and since the beginning, we have invested hundreds of millions of dollars to reduce the price of the airplane. >> reporter: just days

air force one, the tweet represents trump using his twitter feed as a negotiating tool. and there is late word tonight from the trump transition team after the president-elect had promised that this week he would outline how he'll separate his own business interests from the country's interests with a news conference that was supposed to happen thursday, that's been abruptly postponed. tonight a senior transition official tells me trump's announcement will not happen until next month, january, as well as that news conference that will election. lester, so far, no explanation for the delay. >> peter alexander in washington, thank you. now to the wicked weather pushing across the country, dumping a mix of ice and snow, triggering highway crashes and flight delays, after consecutive mild winters, mother nature is roaring and bitter cold is biting in a moment al roker will be here with the forecast. but first we he get the latest from nbc's ron mott. >> reporter: digging

back now with a warning for shoppers this holiday season. when you're hunting for a deal, what if the so-called bargains you're finding aren't really bargains at chains are being sued for allegedly offering fake sales. nbc's news national correspondent jeff explains how these fake sales work and how you can spot them in tonight's rossen reports. >> reporter: this holiday season you're looking for amazing sales, but tonight pressure is mounting against macy's, sears, kohl's and jcpenney. the los angeles city attorney saying they're cheating you in new lawsuits

practice, misleading consumers on thousands of products by creating fake sales. like this dress at kohl's, original price $50. on sale for less. but the lawsuit claims it was never sold at the original price, a false discount. at macy's, this necklace, original price, $120. on sale for 30 bucks. but the lawsuit says it was never sold at the original price. >> we have sought a court order to put a stop to and to order these stores to pay penalties now. >> reporter: in 2013, nbc news first uncovered this at jcpenney. two former employees blowing the whistle. >> all of a sudden, the rack of $7 shorts became $14 and then they were 50% off. >> they wouldn't go on sale for 50% off. not only is it a fake sale, but they're paying more than they would have previously.
