a look at the text messages from a training officer to a friend and deputy recruit. they offer up answers to help ace the training tests. in all-- the sheriff fired 7-recruits. the training officer resigned. 10 news reporter kendra conlon explains how the deputies got busted. it's frustrating for residents like patrick dorney to hear of deputies violating the public's trust when they're supposed to be enforcing the law. pinellas county sheriff bob gualtieri... hired 16 new

through field training, when last week - a deputy discovered 7 recruits.. cheating on verbal and written tests... with perfect answers and scores... that they've never seen before. the sheriff says 3- year deputy and training officer eric biddle.. knew incoming recruit darold cook from their time pasco county in these messages... biddle tells cook - it's not hard to be a he offers.. to send cook the test material through his wife's email... warning him not to open it at work.. or share it with anyone else... and feared getting caught by internal affairs. the sheriff says cook.. then helped 6 other recruits cheat. it cost them all their new $45-thousand dollar plus dollar a year deputy jobs. the sheriff says

throughout europe...filled with ready and willing to ambush innocent people. at least 37 deaths are now linked to the blizzard that pounded much of the east coast over the weekend. many of the fatalities were from car accidents, carbon monoxide poisoning or heart attacks while shoveling. experts estimate the storm resulted in lost economic output of about 3 billion dollars. new information-- on a crash that shut down parts of courtney campbell causeway for 7 hours on monday morning. we've learned a man who was critically injured in the crash has died. police say 20 year old jonathan mendoza-pena was a passenger in a car that lost control while the driver was trying to pass another car on the bridge. after the impact -- police say the driver took off runnning -- but was later captured. police believe that driver may have been drinking. 950-thousand dollars. that's how much florida state university agreed to pay the woman who accused jameis winston of rape while he was quarterback at f-s-u.

nine lawsuit alleging fsu didn't properly handle the rape allegations. 10news reporter courtney robinson explains-- how sexual assault victims are using title nine to hold schools accountable. 26:43 -- studies show as many as one in four women are sexually assaulted at college . though it's not always reported. andrea pino to change that. -- 648 we hope that schools instead of fearing being sued by students or fearing these title ix complaints will actually put that money into programs to prevent sexual assault to begin with 59 -- pino co-founded eroc, end rape on campus. the organization has lobbied for change helping survivors who say schools ignored their allegations . file title nine complaints. eroc was featured in the campus sexual assault documentary the hunting ground the same film in which erica kinsman shared her story . saying fsu violated title nine by refusing to investigate her

say they likely had help. the men sawed through a metal grate... crawled through plumbing tunnels... and used a rope made of bed linens. they vanished friday... and the escape wasn't noticed for as long as 16 hours. around the state this morning-- dramatic video shows a trooper getting hit by a car on the side of the highway. the "florida highway patrol" released it as part of its "move over" campaign. it shows the real dangers these "men and women" face everyday. this video is of trooper "mac mickens." he pulled a car over for speeding on the turnpike, back in october. you can see: a driver who failed to move over slammed into the trooper and the car he had pulled over. f-h-p says the driver who caused the crash, was charged with d-u-i. the trooper was hurt in the crash. florida law says you must move over one lane -- or slow down to 20 miles per hour below the speed limit. coming up at 5 on 10 news this

you realize it's been towed. if this has ever happened- you know it's not fun getting it back. but 10investigates' noah pransky tells us today... you may have more rights than you realize. it was an expensive afternoon for gary koepfer. sot "i looked out the window and saw my car leaving, parked at the apartment of a patient he was seeing, koepfer, a registered nurse, said he just put his bag down when a tow truck was hauling his mustang away.

him i'm here seeing a patient and i was concerned about the patient's wellbeing.he saw me and drove off." little did koepfer know he needed a guest pass to visit his patient! because he didn't have one.he had to find a ride from the tampa park apartments to split second towing, 8 miles away. then, fork over $165 bucks in cash to get his car back and try not to miss appointments with any more patients! "definitely an inconvenience and it's a stressful situation when your car is missing!" but what can you do if your car is towed? and what can you do to prevent it? standup if your car is on private property, such as a shopping plaza or an apartment complex, it can be towed for just about anything! but, the property kind of sign at every in gary's case, these signs weren't here when his car was towed. if this happens to you..it can be your ticket to a refund. absence of a sign, we heads up of

public agency in charge of regulating tow trucks. and they've helped get refunds for customers who have been wrongly towed in hillsborough county. he says if your car is towed, you should also check your receipt tow companies are only allowed to charge you $115, plus $5 for every mile its towed no more than 10 miles in most parts of hillsborough, pinellas, and polk counties. and 15 miles in the rest of the bay area. we've more specifics about the allowable fees on wtsp.com.
