school is the place parents expect their kids will be safe. but a pasco county mom reached out to 10news after she says her son's elementary school and sheriff's deputies treated her child like a hardened criminal. we're told a school resource officer at calusa elementary in new port richey... cuffed and detained the boy.. and tried to commit him to a mental health hospital. 10 news reporter kendra conlon is digging deeper... into why the district and deputies are treating special needs students - like adults... in a story you'll see only on 10. mother sande butler

faces his share of challenges.. at 7, the calusa elementary schooler.. has a traumatic brain injury.. a shunt in his head and autism. butler says that's not what happened when allen had a meltdown in his special needs class, lashing out at the teacher. you can see the marks on his wrists.. and body after a school resource officer cuffed him. the pasco sheriff's office tells me deputies follow state law when baker acting anyone, handcuffed or zip tied, no matter their age. the deputy took involuntarily committed. records show the doctor found him to collected and wouldn't admit him.

for change fell on deaf ears at the school... so she hired attorney nicolette nicoletti... sending this letter to the district and sheriff's office that they plan to sue. these teachers do get special training. i asked the district a week ago, exactly what that training is and qualifications needed... i'm still waiting for that answer. kendra conlon, 10 news wtsp. the district says there had been 7 students in allen's class... with 2 adults and the deputy. the sheriff's office insists it never wants to handcuff a child - but has to make sure they can't harm themself or others. big developments in a 10news investigation that's been going on for nearly four years. now thanks to 10investigates one of the state's largest homebuilders, k-b home, will have to pay tens of millions

officer has been killed in the line of duty. officer greg barney was serving a warrant when the suspect ran out a back door and opened fire - hitting the officer. barney was a 25- year veteran of the department. he was not wearing a bullet- proof vest. a mystery stomach virus has struck nearly 200 students at a small pennsylvania college. the symptoms are similar to norovirus with prolonged periods of vomiting health officials don't know the exact cause -- but say every student had eaten at the campus dining hall. wish airplanes had larger seats? house lawmakers voted down a bill that would have mandated a minimum seat space. before deregulation of the industry, seats averaged 18-inches wide..compared to 16-and-a-half inches today. the eagles will pay tribute to late bandmate, glenn frey during the 58th annual grammy awards. frey's longtime friend, jackson browne will join the band on stage to perform one of their hit songs. you can see the grammys live on monday night... right here on cbs

issues. we just had a little bug issue we were taking care of. manager. david lockhart agreed to show us around his kitchen. where we first checked the employee hand sink. 27:54 okay so you have your paper towels right here. your soap over there. perfect. potential problems. 28:21 here? that's what i use to clean with. okay. some degreaser. this degreasing stored right on the prep table. next to the tomato sauce 28:33 yeah. it we also spotted bleach stored on the drink machine above the ice. throughout the kitchen we found food stored on the floor. or in the case of this tomato sauce. left uncovered.. all potential violations. 42:37 so if someone comes over here to wash the dishes. it's not splashing down here. into the sauce. we found some of the most disturbing issues in the walk-in cooler. like this box. up on the top shelf. 36:17 that should be garbage. filled with what appeared to be rotting produce. liquefied. and covered in mold. 36:40 this is cheese and tomatoes. and we don't want that moldy stuff dripping down onto the bread and some of the other ingredients below. that should have been removed. okay so we'll get rid of that. we spotted this pizza cheese uncovered. 37:41 what is some of this stuff in there? it

cheese bucket that was stacked on top. the restaurant previously written refrigeration unit to that problem now corrected. but we the floor. 40:38 it's almost it was down in all found more food is? looks like so this was just i'm guessing it just fell behind the shelf. the state also cited the restaurant for not keeping track of expiration 36:26 that's sweet so we need to get some fresh. this? its been so but. so you're this eventually? working to get rid of their roach issue. a week earlier. the health inspector documenting close to 80 live roaches found more in this pest control company. and underneath the styrofoam to-go containers. another roach crawling around. on top of the refrigerator. despite all the issues. employees insist they are working hard to keep the kitchen clean. 41:35 business is important. we have a name we want to uphold. and that's why we do it. but after hearing about some of the lingering violations. this father had second thoughts about feeding giovani's pizza to his kids. 00:43 i don't want them eating anything that's toxic. no mold. no bacteria. i mean that's just unsanitary. 41:52 we've got the best pizza in town. my honest opinion. we had an issue we took care of it. and the loyal customers we do have here can keep coming back. and know there's nothing to worry about. but considering this location's track record of previous problems. some customers says things need to change. 5:18 it's not acceptable. this report is not acceptable. i don't believe it should have ever gotten to this point. it's a shame. so i hope they get it cleaned up and i hope they do a better job in the future. in just aew
