school is the place parents expect their kids will be safe. but a pasco county mom reached out to 10news after she says her son's elementary school and sheriff's deputies treated her child like a hardened criminal. we're told a school resource officer at calusa elementary in new port richey... cuffed and detained the boy.. and tried to commit him to a mental health hospital. 10 news reporter kendra conlon is digging deeper... into why the district and deputies are treating special needs students - like adults... in a story you'll see only on 10. mother sande butler

faces his share of challenges.. at 7, the calusa elementary schooler.. has a traumatic brain injury.. a shunt in his head and autism. butler says that's not what happened when allen had a meltdown in his special needs class, lashing out at the teacher. you can see the marks on his wrists.. and body after a school resource officer cuffed him. the pasco sheriff's office tells me deputies follow state law when baker acting anyone, handcuffed or zip tied, no matter their age. the deputy took involuntarily committed. records show the doctor found him to collected and wouldn't admit him.
