developing this morning, out of manatee county, a deputy shoots and kills a man who he says charged at him with a knife. the sheriff says it all started when deputies responded to a fight at a home on boo-kelia circle in bradenton. a woman called 9- 1-1 to say her husband -- 50 year old marc stoddart -- had been drinking and threatening to hurt them both with a knife. the sheriff says when deputies got there the man had cut his wrists and was standing outside holding the knife. the deputies reportedly told the man to drop it -- but they say he charged forward and was shot and killed. the deputy who fired his weapon is on leave while the shooting is under investigation. developing out of st. petersburg, a 4 year

off a shot! thankfully, no one was hurt. police say the boy had been playing outside a home on yale street south when he chased a cat under the house. hidden in a crawl space -- the boy found a revolver. he took it onto the porch and fired one round into the ground. the boy's family says the gun does not belong to them. investigators believe someone may have tossed the gun under the home to hide it. terrifying moments for several families in clearwater over the weekend after 2 small children almost drowned. sunday morning -- a 2 year old boy was found in his family's pool on buford boulevard. he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. and on saturday night -- on highland acres drive -- a 1- year-old boy was found face down in a 55-gallon drum of water used for tilapia farming. we don't know how he's doing this morning. in both cases -- the parents were nearby and say they had only lost sight of the kids for a moment. developing right now, the body of supreme court justice antonin sca-lia has arrived at a funeral home in el paso, texas. sca-lia was found dead of an apparent heart attack in his room at a west texas

after having dinner and saying he wanted a long night's sleep. his body will be flown back home to his family in virginia on tuesday. he was the longest serving justice on the current court. president obama says he will submit a nomination before his term ends, despite criticism from republicans who say it should be left up to the next commander in chief. scalia was 79- years-old. a neighborhood in bradenton is on alert this morning after two wild animals were shot with a cross-bow. we want to warn you, the images might be hard to see. first, wildlife officers responded to a call about a duck swimming in the water with an arrow sticking out of it! then, a second call, this time a raccoon, also shot with an arrow. vets rushed to try to perform emergency surgery on the racoon -- but it died before the operation. officers say this is a safety concern that goes beyond animals.

help investigators, call wildlife officers. a vigil over the weekend after three bethune-cookman university students - were shot saturday morning one is from the bay area. students gathered on campus here in daytona beach to honor the students - shot at an off campus party after a fight broke out. 23 year old don' kevious johnson- a linebacker on the football team - was killed. justine cunninghman and tre jamal williams of palmetto are expected to survive. the suspect who isn't a student -has turned himself in. in the wake of last month's deadly tornado outbreak on the suncoast, the city of venice has implemented a new emergency alert system called code red. concerns were raised when the system did not notify people when those tornados ripped through sarasota county like it was supposed to do. turns out -- the city never signed up for those alerts. now they're righting that wrong, to make sure your family is safe.

one of the nearly 13-thousand people who've already signed up on the city of venice website, you must sign up again. new information on a 40-acre brush fire that shut downs parts of u-s 19 for hours saturday. the fire broke out near the citrus and hernando county line, and led to the evacuation of several homes. the fire has been contained and u-s 19 is back open in both directions. another mystery monkey won't be a mainstay in tampa bay. a wild monkey was after he was spotted in pasco county. much different monkey named cornelius that was on the run for years making headlines around the world. 10 news reporter jonathan petramala found out why this primate was in pasco. looking for love in all the wrong places. a young male rhesus macaque , valentine was likely looking for a date so he ended up in a swamp in this subdivision in

a traffic alert we want to tell you about this morning in st. petersburg... because of road construction - traffic is being de- toured right now along the west bound lanes of gandy boulevard from 9th street to 16th street. look for the de- tour signs to get around work crews who will be in the area until 6:00 this morning. this is all a part of the gandy boulevard project to create a six lane elevated road here. big changes over the weekend at a popular spot in downtown st. petersburg many consider an eyesore. over the years -- williams park has gained a bad reputation for turning into a hub for the homeless. 10 news reporter garin flowers shows you what's being done to turn things around. sot downtown and the park were a great place to be. lisa la budde edwards restaurant is in a great spot in st. petersburg.so she thought. sot i can't say that the homeless didn't hurt us because they did hurt us. she grew up in st. pete, so did her friend dan friedman. they remember williams park a popular spot downtown before it became a hub for psta buses and the

sot people are afraid of the park where they've even tried to have a saturday morning market there and the response isn't as big. they're glad the psta removed the bus stops.and is moving to a different way of bussing. it could possibly move the homeless population away.sot the hub is an important place.making some unhappy. sot i plan on going to spc and i would love to catch a bus to williams park, now i'm a have to probably walk two blocks to get to school and i hope it's not raining. stand up: this space is was one of the bus stops here in williams park, now all that remains is marks that shows where it was. sot for the first time in some 60 years the psta buses are not all coming to this park. brad miller ceo of psta says with the grid system.buses will reach more ground instead of stopping at williams park as a hub. sot now the buses go on all the streets in the grid system of downtown st. pete, connecting to the hospitals, to more jobs, to more people's homes.
