federal and local authorities in good afternoon. thank you for joining us. i'm ian reitz. federal and local authorities in kansas are investigating a work-place shooting that left three people dead and 14 others injured. police killed the suspect during the attack. today details are coming out about a motive. we have the story from kansas. >> reporter: police in kansas

ford was served with a protection from abuse order in the factory where he worked 90 minutes before he opened fire. outrageous. he just displayed, he was upset he was getting this letter. >> reporter: ford, who had a criminal record left work after getting the order. and first opened fire from his vehicle. he then shot another driver and stole their car before heading back to the excel plant. >> the shooter at excel industries. >> reporter: ford shot one person in the parking lot. another 14 inside the building before an officer gunned him down. the unidentified officer is being called a hero. >> he had to stop that threat. you have 200 to 300 people in there. luckily 200 to 300 people came out. >> reporter: relatives rushed

one couple was reunited as cameras were rolling. ford was armed with an assault rifle and automatic handgun. investigators are trying to figure out how a suspect with a criminal record was able to get those weapons. >> authorities say the person named in the order did not in fact work at the factory but released no other detail about the order. he had convictions for fleeing from police and his orderly conduct. records show he lived in the miami area in the late 90s and early 2000's. there were scary statistics released from st. pete today. 99 guns have been stolen so far this year. 2015, 155 were reported stolen. that's more than double the year before.

this morning the court lifted an injunction blocking the waiter period from taking effect. the waiting period law was passed last year by the florida legislator. america civil liberties union challenged the law on behalf of a gainesville, florida clinic. the president will be in the area in a couple hours talking about the america recovery act. the president will use jacksonville's battery backdrop. they received millions of dollars from the recovery act. you'll be able to see the wtsp.com. republican presidential canidates racing towards super tuesday and the attacks on the campaign trail are heating up. top three contender were super tuesday. weijia jiang has more. >> reporter: senators marco rubio and ted cruz launched verbal attacks against gop

charlie wilson during a campaign stop last night before stopping in georgia and south carolina voters. saturday. >> reporter: bernie sanders meets with the supporters in minnesota before heading to the race. house. next week the trial between hulk hogan and the online entertainment website gawker is set to get underway. he is claiming the website portioned parts of a sex tape taken without his permission. this is likely to be a highly publicized civil trial. a growing crime trend has sarasota police hitting the road looker for gas station skimmers. this morning 10 news and gas station attendants checked out the pumps to make sure criminals had not installed skimmers.

>> westbound lane of gandy boulevard will be closed tonight and tomorrow morning item the same closure will take effect saturday night. this is between 19th and 16th street on gandy westbound heading towards i-275. away from the gandy bridge. what your detour will be is tricky. what you'll do is take a right on to roosevelt boulevard from gandy. then you can see on sky 10 what you'll do is get on i-275. you'll head south and get off here at gandy boulevard. from there you'll exit gandy and you can head east towards the section you cannot get to through the closure. this will affect anyone with evening plans or maybe you are heading home late. give yourself time for the detour. wtsp.com. click on traffic. >> closure takes place tonight p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

rays fan fest tomorrow 11:00 to 4:00 at tropicanna field. kate wentzel is checking the weekend forecast. >> happy friday to everybody. it is almost the weekend. the sunshine is sparkling. we are in good shape across the tampa bay area. lakewood ranch look at the wall- to-wall sunshine and bright blue skies. that will continue through this afternoon after we have a reenforcing shot of drier air. current temperatures 58 clearwater. 60 st. petersburg. 62 carrollwood. crystal river trying to catch up with the rest of us. degrees. there is the cool front that's moved to our south. you can still see some clouds associated with that pushing the sunshine state. we are in good shape. high pressure building in across the southeast united states. stable air. you can put your umbrellas away for the weekend.

pretty breezy today with the same winds northwest anywhere from 10 to 15 miles per hour. we could see wind gusts upwards of 21 along the coastline. not a great day out there for lots of sunshine. your high temperatures staying in the low 60s. by 7:00, if you are headed out for friday evening, maybe some dining, we are looking at temperatures 52 degrees. by midnight 46 degrees becoming chilly with clear skies. we'll see good radiational cooling. that means all of the surface heating from the sunshine today will radiate back into the atmosphere without that level and layer of clouds to keep the heat down by the surface. six feet. bay waters choppy. small craft exercise caution. uv index 8. sun is getting stronger this time of the year. make sure to wear sunscreen. winds staying breezy through your friday evening. by midnight coming down a little bit.
