rexrode uninjured, wearing a vest saying d.c. on his back, an aabbreviation for the department of corrections. he was overseeing a group of five inmates during a work detail at mosaic park in bartow. the suspect, 42-year-old david ross, overpowered the corrections officer who was armed only with pepper spray. ross they say locked the other four inmates in a small building at the park, took off with the truck and rexrode heading for st. petersburg where officials say friends and family. how are you doing? the officer didn't comment, but he was checked for injuries and is said to be all right. as the search unfolded an many as five schools were put on modified lockdown in the bartow area. it was a pinellas county deputy who spotted the truck in st. petersburg. ross ditching the pickup in front of this house took off running and was arrested a few blocks away. >> they caught the guy. he was on the ground. three cops had their guns on

he would intentionally pick his head up like this and kick his feet. they are like don't move, don't move. >> reporter: deputies found the other four inmates at that park just sitting there waiting. they are being cooperative we are told. some of them with very little time left on their sentences. as for the suspect in this case, we are told that in the past he does have on his record other cases, or at least one, of battery on a law enforcement officer. now very likely another. he was scheduled to be released february. it seems like we are telling you about this way too often. troopers searching for hit-and- run drivers. even with newer and stricter laws, the number of hit-and- runs are on the rise. i want you to take a look at this. 2014 there were 67,000 hit-and- runs.

killed by hit-and-run drivers in florida so far this year. >> frequently people leave for various reasons, but oftentimes people that are not necessarily at fault in the crash leave and they take the can situation in which they weren't responsible for the crash but now have committed a felony by leaving the scene. >> reporter: 50% of the cases will remain unsolved. law enforcement agencies say if you know anything about any anonymously through crime stoppers and even be rewarded cash. for thornton's family they know nothing will bring their loved one back, but hope one day soon they will be rewarded with closure. >> after all these months, turn yourself in. >> here in florida a hit-and- run is officially called leaving the scene of an accident. the penalties depend what kind of damage was done.

if someone is hurt, you could spend up to five years in prison. and if someone is killed, it's up to 30 years in prison. sharing the stage for the very last time before one of them becomes president. the stage is set at the university of nevada las vegas for the third and final presidential debate. chris wallace is moderating this time. the candidates will be standing at their podiums for the whole 90 minutes. >> since the rs donald trump's campaign has been slammed by video leaks, allegations of sexual misconduct and leaked tax required. "usa today" says there are three big things he needs to do tonight to get the results he needs out of the debate. first, he needs to decide if he is going to be an issues trump or if he is going to be a take no prisoners trump. second, he needs to speak directly to women. his approval rating with women is dropping. three, he has to remember it's not about her.

pass it off as treatment. lakeland police officers say four more patients are accusing 71-year-old anthony conte of groping them. conte faced new charges today in court. his office has been closed since he was arrested last month. lakeland police still want you to come forward if you know anything about conte. a judge in the czech republic will have to decide if a russian man will be sent to the united states to face hacking charges. the fbi worked with interpol and local li the man. this is video of officers walking into a restaurant and arresting him. investigators say he collapsed right after the arrest and he was taken to the hospital. tonight he is still in custody. the man accused of cyber attacks in the u.s., russia has denied any involvement in the hack nothing underpaid and overworked. it is probably the way many of you feel. there is a way to prove it. people have been talking about

you can see the first time that the driver of the fan backs off. the group then starts attacking the van, throwing things, hitting it with sticks. doctors had to treat at least three of the activists. they were outside of the american embassy protesting the presence of american troops in the philippines. you can see the police van wasn't the only part to get violent. look at this chaos right here. officers were rough as they arrested two dozen protesters and at one point i want you to chit a high-pressure hose trying to control the crowd. the philippines controversial new president is calling for more distance between his country and the u.s. well, amy schumer, the comedian, not done with tampa yet. first she bashes us in her book and then fans walk out of her show at amalie arena when she starts talking about politics. now she is sharing an open letter to tampa.

winds at 35-mile-per-hour. here are the forecast models. sue he that turn to the northwest turns to the north and northeast way offshore. the reason that's happening is because of that, and that is the cold front that's bringing us the great weather for the weekend. so what will happen is this will kind of meander off the coast. we will stay warm, northeast to north winds by tomorrow afternoon. thursday into friday, because of that system moving through, this is friday night into saturday morning about 2 a.m. that's when the front co through here. if we're going to get any rain from this, it would happen friday night 11, 12, 1 in the morning into saturday morning. i have a 10% chance of rain with the front. due to the colors of those wind arrows right there, it's cooler and it's drier air that's coming in back behind it and you are going to enjoy it. at least a small breakout. a nice break from what we had over the summertime with more 90 days than we normally should. cooler and drier air. if you are traveling, it's
