a few months after he got a flu vaccination. that's why she strongly is against anyone in other family getting the shot. >> i believe in safety and efficacy. unfortunately, it's not safe and it's not effective. >> reporter: it's been several years since they have had a flu shot and rene says they have not gotten the flu. chelsea is just the opposite. she says she made sure her kids get the shot every year. >> i am big on vaccines. so i think that every child should around tons of other children and germs all the time. >> reporter: they have also never gotten the flu. and people suddenly aren't shy about this topic, especially on social media. rosemary writes on our 10news facebook page no one in my family gets the flu shot. it's poison injected into your system. get the flu shot and you get the flu. and then on the other side, nicole writes, neither i nor my four children have suffered ill effects from the flu and we

was a good two weeks of misery. >> finally, there are people that walked the line on this issue. debbie thinks the elderly should get the flu vaccine, but she chooses not to. >> i don't really get sick that often. and i am still -- i feel health- wise i am good. >> reporter: some people didn't really have an opinion one way or the other. they are just squeamish when it comes to needles. >> so joining us right dr. benjamin menna, an internal medicine doctor in tampa. talk about the misconceptions first and foremost. what is one of the biggest ones you keep on hearing? >> that people think they get the flu when they get the flu shot. technically, that is impossible. the flu shot comprised of pieces of a dead. [ indescernible ]. >> there is a lot of concern over that. and what about the second misconception? the top three that you have?

that i know will say that they never get the flu. that may be true, but then you also have to consider that a lot of people do get the flu shot, so they don't transmit it to you. secondly, people discuss the fact that, you know, somebody else had it, they were sick, so they don't want to get. these things are not true. there is a lot of data out there proving that the flu shot works. there is 46,000 people that die in this country from the flu. maybe from the flu. like this young girl earlier. >> i worked with someone once whose wife got the flu shot and ended up paralyzed. would you say that's an isolated case? it's on a case-by-case basis? >> it's a rare case, yes. some people, if you have something where there is a neural or a neurological deficit, you don't want to get the flu shot. the flu shot is definitely not for everyone. but the majority of people,

heat between clinton and trump in florida. a poll puts the democrat slightly ahead 46% to 45%. right now a trial for a rapper accused of kicking a fan at a concert in lakeland is underway. as 10news first told you, it happened last year at rumors nightclub. this video is from the night in question. it went viral and led to more than a thousand people petitioning to ben gates from performing in florida. 10news reporter grady trimble. >> reporter: gates admits to pick canning her, but his lawyer, well known defense attorney jose baez, argues he was committing himself. >> she committed a battery by grabbing him. she grabbed his shorts. >> reporter: gates wouldn't answer our questions during the trial, but did take the stand. he says he worries about his safety while he is performing,

their renovations. >> reporter: hillsborough county sales tax dollars are already paying for a quarter of raymond james stadium nine figure renovation. now they are asking for another $12 million from the state over the next 12 years. deep inside their 700-page application they make the case for how the economy would benefit. they suggest the renovations would help the team secure another super bowl. the improvements will also help the team charge you more for tickets. the bucs are essentially saying they should get state tax dollars because charging you concerts is good for the economy. about 15% for tickets starting next year. now, the team told the state it also expects the renovations to boost attendance in the future. so far this year crowds are down from about a year ago despite the renovations. getting the state dollars may be a long shot since the legislature has not been kind to pro teams in recent years. the bucs want a chance at those incentives, nonetheless, if that opportunity presents itself, we want to make sure

hillsborough county and the city of tampa and raymond james stadium has a seat at the table. >> the team tells me that the price hikes won't be across the board. club seats will see the biggest increases. >> what about economic benefits? who is benefiting? >> we will see a lot of construction jobs. but the bucs are ultimately the biggest beneficiary here. they say that the state and local benefits will be here, too. especially in a year where they have something like a super bowl. so far a lot of economists have and haven't seen it outside of the hotel industry. >> what about the new jobs things? >> construction jobs. the bucs say that there will be a total of seven full-time jobs created by this work. >> seven? >> one of which will be a maintenance job that the county taxpayers will have to pay for.
