reporter jeff begay shows you how they are working together to make sure everyone is safe leading up to election day. >> reporter: u.s. authorities are taking this threat seriously while assessing the credibility of the intelligence. but counterterrorism officials across the country have been alerted out of an abundance of caution. law enforcement sources tell cbs news the threat comes from al-qaeda and intelligence points to attacks taking place in new york, virginia. isolexes day approaches, federal law enforcement is planning for several wide receivers case scenarios. earlier this week a polling place was seen as attractive targets for lone wolf attacks for individuals motivated by extremist ideologies. a senior fbi official says the bureau as well as the department of homeland security are working closely with federal, state, and local

identify potential threats. it is not unusual for there to be an increase in the volume of threats leading up to significant events like holidays or an election, and officials say it is important to investigate those threats thoroughly. jeff begay, cbs news washington. millions of people across the country have already vote. what does that terror threat mean for election day? new at 5:30 what local voters have to say about possible and we are breaking down some of the other threats to the election process that don't involve violence. a story developing today out of south carolina. the details are horrific. it's hard to believe things like this really happen, but it did. investigators are searching the property of a city called woodruff. that's about a half mile -- hour out of greenville. so far they found one body, but the really bizarre part of all of this is why the search

a sex crimes investigator received a tip about the property. when he got here he heard a woman's cry from help coming from the woods. he found the woman locked inside of a container. she had been in there for months. the woman's family has been searching for her and her boyfriend since august. >> it was pretty emotional, to say the least, when she was found, especially, you know, when she was chained like a dog. she had a chain around her property is todd kohlhepp. he is under arrest. he is a real estate broker and a registered sex offender. when he was 15, kohlhepp was charged in arizona with kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl. the woman found locked in a cage told investigators that she cleaned houses for kohlhepp. she told investigators there could be four dead bodies across the property and they are still searching tonight.

tonight. another major one for samsung. they are recalling almost three million washing machines because of a problem that's already hurt nine people. the top-loading washers can vibrate so much that the top flies off. in one case it even broke a person's jaw. the dangerous models were sold at best buy, home depot, lowe's, and sears stores between march of 2011 and this month. they are offering repairs or rebates for the recalled washing machines. the recall of the samsung note 7 could cost more than $5 billion. a major movement when it comes to connecting both sides of tampa bay. the new cross bay ferry is about to take off on the first trip from st. pete so tampa. it should take an hour and the ride is $10 each way. 10news anchor courtney robinson is there live in downtown st. pete about to hop on the ferry.

beach. water temperature 77 degrees. lots of beautiful sunshine. look at the waves. see them blowing in like this? that's a north-northwest wind blowing in across the area and that's ahead of a cold front. that's gonna change later tonight. we will talk about that. but it's kept us in the 70s along the coast. temperatures from crystal river to new port richey to clearwater, to even st. pete, 70, 78, 79 degrees. it's 82 in tampa. 80s for land o'lakes and carrollwood. 83 sarasota. no rain out there. just trying to show a returns in southern sumpter county. i don't think we will see too much rain, at least not initially. a couple of showers coming from the north. that's where the front is right there. so you can see this weak front coming through, a couple of showers over on the east coast with it, and that likely will be the best chance for rain tonight 11:30, 12:30, 1 in the morning, a couple of showers coming down the east coast. that's about it. this front is not packing a big punch. the winds now are out of the west-northwest ahead of it. they will turn it the north and

tomorrow. and when that happens the wind will pick up a little bit, but that is bringing in the drier and the cooler air. but it's only slightly drier and slightly cooler. here is the front by 1 a.m. tonight. it's fall apart. in fact, i think it stalls out between sarasota and venice and washes out. but that's enough to -- you see the wind change here coming to the north and northeast overnight. so when we wake up tomorrow and go through saturday evening into the evening, this is 6:00, pretty decent north-northeast s tomorrow. it will be a beautiful day. it's just not going to be the coolest air like we saw two weekends ago in the 40s and 50s in the morning and 70s for highs. we are gonna go 76 this evening and fall back down through the 70s into the mid-60s for first thing tomorrow morning, but the air will be drying out. you will notice that a little bit in the morning. i think you will notice it more in the afternoon. about 81 for a daytime high. i am taking the 70s off the map for highs, although if you are
