by an angry bear. her terrifying call for help. right now an escaped inmate is on the run. where he was last seen. the video is clear - and it's crazy as a car plows into people and a bar in ybor city! good morning and welcome to "10 news early morning." i'm jenny dean, in for allison. lets get a look at #10weather with meteorologist

this morning we're hearing from one of the victim's in a wild hit and run the guy behind the wheel takes off... and still hasn't been arrested by police. 10news reporter kendra conlon walks you through the melee. you can see this group fighting in the street on 7th avenue in ybor... surrounding this car. this is the victim - who we'll see get slammed by the car. check out how the nissan starts to rock on the curb... then drives right up on the sidewalk... hitting this guy and tossing the victim onto the hood...

of the bad monkey bar. the rest of the brawlers scatter... it takes the driver just 13 seconds to decide to take off... not thinking twice about the injured victim who crawls over the car - before he collapses on the sidewalk. michael silhol tells me he and a friend had been walking back to their car - after closing time - 3:30 tuesday morning - when he says unprovoked - this group jumped them. what do you think? tampa police tell me the driver had been trying to make a u- turn - but got stuck on the curb. you can see the wheels are turning... investigators tell me this guy who nearly got hit is a friend of the driver and aren't sure he intentionally rammed the guys.

the investigation - he'll likely face charges for taking off after hurting someone - and doing $15-thousand dollars damage to the bar. kendra conlon 10 news wtsp police insist ybor is safe... saying violent and property crimes are down nearly 38 percent from last year. right now, investigators are tracking down the driver... and say he still hasn't come forward to claim his car - or tell his side of what happened. right now -- the escaped inmate in polk county. 45- year old joseph flanagin stole a pick-up truck and took off! he was working in fleet maintenance in bartow and last seen around 3:30 thursday afternoon. he was 66 days in on a 300 day sentence for a probation violation on petit theft. deputies found the truck but are still looking for flanagin. if you see him, call 9-1-1. just last month another inmate escaped from a bartow work detail.

inmate david ross held a corrections officer at knife point and escaped in a work truck. ross was later captured in st. petersburg. for the first time-- you're about to hear the "heart-wrenching 9-1-1 call"-- made by a maryland woman moments after she was viciously attacked by a black bear. the 63-year old woman survived! but as you're about to hear...there were moments... she thought she wouldn't. the woman was walking her daughter's dog when another dog chased a bear cub up a tree. that must have upset mama bear...who went after the woman. she was left with 80 stitches and a broken arm. wildlife officers euthanized the bear. an exciting new

provide at risk youth. top notch culinary training. from some of the best chefs across the bay area. the brand new st. pete culinary center. offers a free 16 week program. 10news reporter beau zimmer explains how the training is opening up new doors. these students never imagined. 21 year old ray kennedy always loved food. now he's getting a chance to work alongside some of the best chefs in tampa bay.. 47:18 its fine dining. its fine detail. and the way you learn. you have to watch to learn. ray is among the 12 students to make up the st. pete culinary center's first class of future chefs. their first test.. a six course. black tie dinner at the mahaffy center. to raise funds for the new school. 28:55 this is an opportunity that comes once in a lifetime. and they have all of the support and resources behind them. 8:53 it gets them off the streets. gives them a trade and that's what makes our center unique. . ted dorsey is executive chef at the mill restaurant

someone do something about skyrocketing prescription drug prices? that is the question we've been asking all week.. and trying to get you answers! a major part of the problem is political. as 10 investigates mike deeson explains-- the pharmaceutical industry spends a lot of money trying to make sure lawmakers are on their side. each year many of you consume millions of prescription drugs to stay healthy or even kyo prices are taking a serious toll on american lives.. 62 year old janet snyder is a transplant patient. and the dramatic cost increase in the drugs she needs forced her and her husband to alter their retirement dreams. she blames the drug manufacturers and congress! us represtative

tampa is talking about the 26 million dollars the pharmacutical industry spends on campaign contributions to members of congress and 186 million a year big pharma spends on lobbyists. castor received less than four thousand dollars of contribution money. castor says part of the problem is the 2003 bill congress passed prohibiting medicare from negotiating drug prices with pharmacutical companies. now us senator marco rubio, who received 221 thousand dollars in campaign contributions from the pharmacutical industry, says medicare isn't the answer... he believes the issue is the f-d-a needs to approve drugs quicker, leading to more competition.. prices. rubio also points to this 2007 letter from the congressional budget office claiming you have to look at it from the drug companies point of view. however castor who is aware drug companies have to

i'm jenny dean. in for allison. and i'm ian reitz. right now, deputies in polk county are looking for an escaped inmate, and they need your help. 10news reporter emerald morrow is live in the newsroom. emerald, what do we know about this criminal they're looking for? sheriff's officials are looking for a 45- year-old man by the name of joseph flanagin...who has been on the run in our streets for more than 12 hours. take a good look at his mugshot. flanagin was behind bars for theft and violating probation. officials say he was working fleet
