the woods. my shoulder is broke. >> reporter: she was a teenager who looked badly abused. he told his mom to call 911. >> her feet are messed up. she has no shoes on. >> does she need ems? >> she is really dirty. >> reporter: deputies got there and rushed her to the hospital. >> the guy said she was dying on the way to the hospital. i couldn't imagine what she was going through. >> reporter: according to investigators the teenager cold them husband and wife chris melissa peters beat her and wouldn't let her eat or use the bathroom. >> she said they treated their dog better man me. >> reporter: hickens thinks this could have ended worse. he couldn't explain why these two people would treat a childlike that. >> it's senseless. i hope they are in jail for a while i. >> and that is where they will stay unless they make bond. doctors are caring for that teenager. there is more to this. sheriff judd says she has a brother. they do not think he was

good care because they are now getting the help that they have needed so long. a search for a gunman intensifies tonight. the reward information has climbed to $25,000. right now there is no motive in the shooting and killing of a san antonio police officer. he is just one of four police officers who were shot in a wave of unrelated attacks around the country targeting law enforcement. all of the other officers are expected to survive. this newly getting buzzed into police headquarters in san antonio. this was just hours before the shooting. investigators believe he is the one behind the attack. >> i think that the uniform was the target, and anyone who happened -- the first person who happened along was the person that he targeted. >> the police chief says detective benjamin marconi pulled a driver over in front of police headquarters before noon and the suspect parked his

approached marconi's driver's side window. investigators say the suspect shot him twice in the head before running back to his car. police say surveillance footage captured this black sedan speeding away from the scene. these shootings are putting the focus on the dangers of working in law enforcement. tonight at 5:30 we are hearing from the wife of an officer who broke down in tears talking about what it's like knowing your husband could be in the line of fire at any moment. breaking news out tonight. a tsunami warning is in effect, and this is why. an earthquake just hit north of tokyo. it's powerful, too. a 7.3. that means possible waves at least 10 feet. the epicenter is home to a nuclear power plant that was destroyed in 2007 when another quake hit offshore and caused a tsunami there. if you have loved ones up north, they are probably digging out. the first major snowstorm

northeast. take a look. the timing could have been better on this one. the snow might have an impact on thanksgiving traffic. here is just one example of that snow. watertown in new york, the lake effect dropped more than 6 inches there. and it's bizarre because look right there. they were enjoying 72-degree weather. >> i am not ready for it. it's too soon. not ready at all. i heard we are gonna get more. >> and it's not just connecticut, they have about a foot of snow they are dealing with. heads up if you are flying next week. you could see delays at some of the airports because of a possible strike at chicago's o'hare international. now, about 500 workers at o'hare say they will strike next tuesday, november 29, after the thanksgiving holiday. the original plan was to walk off the job today, but they changed their minds. they say they want the public's

main issue is. syracuse, buffalo, places like that. out west there are some snow showers. that's green stuff there. that's rain. it's not terrible in rockies. the northeast is where we have the problem. that is going to continue through tonight. by tomorrow morning a lot of this will actually clear out. so this area will improve. but i-87, i-90 going across ro part of the state, and that will continue to lighten up i think through tonight and tomorrow. travel weather right now is not bad. most of the airports are in the green. new york just has some issues. watching chicago for wednesday, this is tomorrow morning. that system in the rockies, watch as it moves across through lincoln, nebraska, topeka to minneapolis most of that is rain. wednesday, this is a big-time travel day, that system moves through chicago down through northern alabama.

forecast, guys, through the weekend. and that's with another weak front coming through. perhaps tuesday of next week we may get a small shot at it. it's a small shot as it is. now, there is that weak system moving through parts of the desert southwest into denver, colorado. obviously, up through wyoming and montana. another system coming in in seattle with 40s for highs over the next couple of days. this is the big news maker because of the amount of snow. 12, 13, 14 inches in the syracuse area and it's still snowing. that wilnt apart. otherwise, the southeast, mid- atlantic looks great. we look fantastic. of course, we have another beautiful weather day. right now starting a little bit of a warm-up. it's 63 degrees. we came down a little bit from the mid-to-upper 60s today. 31-degree dew point. that is dry air. that's why it's felt so nice out there. but that air can cool down to about 31 degrees if you let it, if it was the right situation.

we are in the 50s already for citrus county at 59 degrees. new port richey is there as well, too. but mid-60s for polk county. 63 in tampa. sarasota showing off with 68 degrees right now. so new tampa i think we will go down into the 50s by about 6:30, 7:00. it's not going to take long. most of the evening we will be there. same thing for eastern parts of hillsborough county, fishhawk, valrico. riverview 65. give it an hour or two low 60s to upper 50s. the another cold night. if you protected the plants last night, do that again tonight because we are going to be very close, especially northern pasco, hernando and citrus county. bring the pets in, please, as well. mid-40s for most areas. that means mid-30s for most of hernando and citrus county. this is a little bit warmer. brooksville down to 30 this morning. there were patches of frost out

degrees warmer than that. 40 degrees in pasco county. mid-40s eastern hillsborough. warmer on the coast. 48 in largo. 54 in st. petersburg. so that's going to be our warm spot. the beaches of manatee and sarasota county low 50s. most areas on the other side of the bridge generally in the 40s. forecast model today, tonight, i should say, tomorrow and all the way through even into thursday is dry all the way through. so a lot of sunshine. i think we will add a few extra but generally temperatures will be warming up. that's the good news. we will go 77 for a high tomorrow. close to 80 degrees for both wednesday and thursday. even friday will be warm before the weekend when we get slightly cooler. that travel weather, this is the only thing to watch. i want to take you out through tuesday night into wednesday. you are going to notice that's when it moves through chicago. i think again it's all rain. then on thanksgiving, if you are traveling, it's going to be a weak system. that system is falling apart.

more die in 50,000 plus crashes in parking lots and garages every year. >> it's just as dangerous to be distracted in a parking lot going five miles an hour as it is to be going 50 miles an hour. >> reporter: deborah herznan runs the national safety council. >> people have their heads down, they are on their phones. there is a lot of inattention out there. >> reporter: a recent survey found 66% felt comfortable making calls wh parking lot. more than half would text. roughly half of drivers were okay with sending emails using social media, taking pictures, or watching video. 42% said they would video chat. on average every year 51 people die in accidents where a car is backing up in the parking lot. experts are saying take that extra second as a driver to double check behind you or use the backup camera before you start driving.
