dinner table. first up though at 5:30, many of you woke up to a horrific headline that's almost too hard to believe. four officers shot in 24 hours in four different cities. now, two of those shootings investigators tell us, the officers were actually targeting, and it happened during one of the most dangerous times on an officer's patrol is when they are out making traffic stops. first up in san antonio. a detective writing out a traffic ticket shot to death in his squad morning outside of police headquarters. police say the officer's uniform may have been the target. in st. louis, a police sergeant is in the hospital after being shot twice in the face. that happened sunday night while sitting in traffic. police are calling that shooting an ambush. and that's just the beginning. another missouri officer was shot during a traffic stop last night. the officer is expected to survive that shooting. and one shooting that hits really close to home, an officer in sanibel shot in the

stop last night. we understand that he is out of the hospital tonight. now, many in the community are hurting, including law enforcement officers' families. 10news reporter shannon valladolid sat down with an officer's wife as she told her emotional story of what it's like to say good-bye to her husband, not sure if he's going to return. >> i am so sad for my sisters who are burying their husbands and the children. it's something that you never imagine will happen to you, but the truth is it could happen to any of us. and so having that support with one another is vital. >> reporter: your husband has been a police officer a little over a year. so you guys are still new to this. >> yeah. >> reporter: how do you feel coming in during a time when all these attacks are happening? >> it's hard and it's scary.

good-bye, you know, it's never known if he is going to come home in the morning. we have a child, a young son together. we are taking videos and pictures of them because i never know if that's going to be the last memory he is gonna get of his dad. it's hard. it's a calling. whether or not i want him to do it, it's not a choice. he is going to continue suiting up every day going out and protecting our community. we as a community need to rally behind them and say we're here, we support we need more support for the police right now. >> reporter: how can people see that support? >> saying hi. saying thank you for your service. offering a wave or a smile when an officer is on duty and you see them. >> reporter: all you guys really ask for is, if you see a police officer, say thank you or give them a hug. just something to brighten their day. that's all you, as wives, want? >> yes. i want my husband to come home saying, oh, it was great.

me today. i feel like i was supported or made a difference. >> now, we took her request to heart and we ask you, our viewers, to take a moment to honor our men and women in blue. >> thank you for everything you do. we couldn't do enough for you guys. >> thank you for keeping our neighborhoods safe. it would be a lot more of a dangerous place without you guys. you put your life on the line day in, day out, to keep everyone in the community safe. >> i would like to say you in the community for what you have done. >> i wouldn't to thank all the police officers for all the hard work they do, and just thank you for your service. >> your thank yous, they mean a lot to the men and women serving, making sure we are safe at night, because so many law enforcement officers are doing this not for the money, but for the service and protection of our community.
