9:01 am
during the capture in sirte overnight he was injured in both legs as he tried to flee in a convoy attacked by nato war planes. nato confirms its planes did strike a convoy of gadhafi loyal lists moving through sirte but could not confirm whether the libyan leader was killed or captured. the official claims there is footage of his death but it was not immediately available. jj green joins us in studio to talk more about what has happened and what all this means good morning thanks for running over from top to join us. first of all, everything we said is that your understanding what happened there? >> yeah, in addition this photographic evidence they were talking about i did see a photograph this morning. >> you did. >> it is not confirmed it is gadhafi looks like him but you know photographs can be deceptive but i believe that is what they are referring to in terms of footage, of
9:02 am
photographic evidence there is the understanding that this convoy was attacked he was part of this convoy, i have spoken with u.s. officials this morning who are slow to say anything about this saying it is too early to confirm or make statements but they are on the ground trying to figure out what this situation is. i understand as well, that there is some question about what type of nato asset it was that struck this convoy was it a drone, was it a u.s. drone, was it a plane exactly what it was but pretty much everything you've reported has been what i heard as well. >> leading up to this, can you set the stage for us in his hometown there, the rebels coming in we see them now celebrating in the streets tell us what is going on now. >> right now they are just euphoria, just this overwhelming scene of celebration and people feel liberated they feel closure
9:03 am
apparently that is the scenes we are seeing but this has been a long time coming they have been in and out of sirte for a good while some times they have had success, they have been pushed back on other occasions we know this was again gadhafi's strong hold and that he had significant assets there and all of those assets had essentially confirmed their loyalty to him. >> his hometown. >> right. >> one more thing about whether or not he is dead or not, he did say he would not be taken alive he would fight to the death that is going to be a big question to answer as the day moves on. >> obviously we have to see whether loyal lists continue to try to fight what else might we see in the days ahead, if he is indeed dead. >> confusion. one of the things you will see is confusion another thing you will probably see is some very definitive action from the libyan national transitional
9:04 am
council to certify its hold on power you will probably see international officials from all countries including the u.s., taking or helping them to take formal steps, to legitimize and formalize their government there, but first, there is going to have to be some kind of proof that gadhafi is out of the picture and all of the ruling family, and people who have any hold or any options of mobilizing the forces that have been fighting against the rebels, that is going to have to be settled once and for all that in the next few days will be a part of the confusion,. that proof we are talking about, dna we are talking about proof and then we will come up with the state department and say indeed gadhafi. >> there is going to have to be some kind of proof i believe the state department u.s. officials are going to have to see something have something and have it confirmed in some
