on time traffic. lulu lemon murder the trial for the woman accused of killing a co-worker will begin today. >> stacy cohen live at the courthouse in rockville. good morning. >> reporter: good morning we all remember this murder case a sensational crime, happened in the heart of bethesda at the popular lulu lemon yoga apparel store. 29-year-old brittany norwood was an employee of the lulu lemon store at first she told police she and her 30-year-old co-worker jana murray were attacked by two masked men that beat them and sexually assaulted them but her story did not hold up and eventually she was charged with first degree murder. >> it was really scary just

occupy protests continued over the weekend, 130 people arrested in chicago early yesterday morning after ignoring police orders to clear out. >> ohio, cincinnati police arrested 45 people since friday. in philadelphia, protestors are claiming police brutality. arizona congress woman gabrielle giffords now being treated in north carolina she is there for two weeks of intensive therapy sessions as she continues to recover from a gunshot wound to the head she is expected to spend time with a therapist who worked with her in houston for the last several months. it is not official but looks like a chicago suburb may have carved out quite a name for themselves. people in high wood illinois may have carved out a name for themselves with the most

hours a month, and they keep constant contact, throughout peer groups, you have the second saturday of each month we have the mentors, men tees pair together and do something the kids may not have experienced before. calls, e-mails anything making sure they care for them. >> how have you seen children develop and grow by having this exposure with the mentors give me some idea how fulfilling it is for the mentor and mentee. >> i have seen a lot of change i have only been with the program 7 months now but i have seen amazing things happen with the kids, kids that came in a little while they were really personable, just great kids found a way to up lift their spirit and show them they have talent and are more confident in themselves. >> you find too a lot of the

like you know what i can make that education and take it and make it a real experience for kids here. >> because you are mentoring getting them together and saying okay what kind of songs doto sing how can we do that in a way to value every single member of the cast. we have the younger cast, 7 to 11 these kids mentor so it is like everybody is featured here, you get songs they love to sing. we did broadways shows one year and you just pick out these wonderful songs people want to sing and make it happen. >> it is an interactive camp of sorts listen to them. >> absolutely they lead the camp so they do set design, production, choreography, they help with everything that goes into it, when you put kids in charge, then they will do anything, anything. >> you empower them and more of their talent comes out. >> absolutely.

murder. jury selection could be dicey, defense didn't ask for a change of venue some times you see that, and the trial is taking place very quickly, after the murder we are talking about just 6 months here now, since the murder so this is still fresh in people's minds. >> are you expecting anything unusual? we have heard so much information about all this evidence they have against norwood i told people often no trial is a fore gone conclusion no matter what you may have heard. >> sure juries sit in there and hear the case themselves where as we see it differently some times not that we are reporting anything that is different from what they are hearing we are reporting what is being said in the courtroom they are sitting there listening to stuff that some times they don't hear what is going on at the bench, some times the jury is removed and other things come up there may be some surprises in this case we are not anticipating at this point but looks to me like a

mentoring program we do field trips we went to ski liberty we go camping as well as to united nations in new york a lot of activities we have for youth to get involved with. >> explain how you see maybe a change in some of these youngsters you have worked with them throughout your time with the organization what do you see what kind of transformation do you notice. >> we have a junior mentoring program a lot of youth start off as regular mentees then they mature and come back as junior mentors they are mentors mentoring other youth we take youth and turn them into mentors themselves. which helps they know how the organization works how much time do you volunteer with them and work? >> i would have to say a lot of hours, like camping trips, for example you are talking about a weekend 18 hours.

this should be easy you get to play the role of a good financial advisor if i come to see you, i know what i want to ask you, what do i want to hear from you what questions are important. >> there is a tonne of questions that an advisor should ask we will kind of say the basic questions about your assets and your income, kind of those basic questions, but the main questions i think, are what are you as a client or investor trying to accomplish and what are your goals, objectives and what are the timeframes associated with each of those goals most people have many different goals whether it is college education, saving for a home, saving for retirement and what type of timeframe do you have in mind for that that helps the advisor with the plan. >> makes things easier so everybody is on the same page talking about long term, retirement some people wait until later in life to save for it which is another part of the

plan. >> that's right so i like to ask people, you know what does retirement mean or look like for you or what is your ideal retirement look like for you it is different for everyone some people retirement is no more work whatsoever some people it is working part-time or working for a nonprofit in dc a lot of times it means people will relocate and move elsewhere. there is planning associated with that as well. all things to consider. >> as far as the client let me ask you about that, i am sure you hear all different answers from all different people how important is it for the client to be honest i am sure we would all like to retire and not have to work any more some people would be able to afford that some would not does it make it easier for you as a planner if that person is upfront about what they are hoping for. >> once the client has made the commitment to move forward with an advisor it should be open book, if you are interviewing a couple different people and just want to see what the

different approaches would be, that is fine to be you know, a little closer once you have made a commitment and you are working with some body it is in the the clients best interest to open the book and let the advisor help you they are there to navigate you and make sure you accomplish the goals. >> one of the other things you are saying, an advisor should ask about is dependence, family members why is that. >> particularly people getting ready to retire now they are kind of the sandwich generation is what they are being called and they have kids returning home from college living with them and a lot of times they still have husband and wife may have a parent still living and so the question of, what -- who are your dependents has expended to maybe parents or aunts and uncles knowing what your circumstances are around those situations are important as well it could be an additional requirement.

tack about legacy what do you mean about legacy. >> something different to everybody a lot of people means what can i pass down to my kids when i am gone for many people that is correct is as much as i can and for some people i don't want to leave anything to them i want to spend it, for more people still, there is that charitable inclination we want to plan for. >> if i go in to talk to an advisor they don't ask me these questions should i bring them up? >> when clients ask questions what types of -- or what do clients typically look at towards you know, retirement, you know you can kind of lead them on but these are things that again i think, before we bet into a discussion of what do you have in investments what is your income what is your investment, these provide the foundation for the relationship, these are things whether or not you are able to achieve these, will measure your level of success and

forecast alison i will toss it over to you. eating disorders are often associated with teenage girls, right but the country's residential eating disorder facility is seeing a disturbing new trend a 42% increase in the last 5 years in number of women seeking treatment later in life, women from 30s to 60s joining us now author caroline miller who chronicled her nearly deadly battle with eating disorders in a ground breaking memoir my name is caroline. good morning nice to meet you. >> good morning. >> we were talking before maybe you caught that at home i was asking if people want to come out book signings or discussions with you you said not right now but you have a website. >> i have a website full disclosure this book came out over 20 years ago my recovery started several decades ago i have written other books the latest book is about goal setting and well being which

actually is directly from my battle with bull loom yeah. >> creating your best life. we were talking i was saying in full disclosure with you, i do associate bulemia anorexia and these issues with younger women. >> this does not surprise me i have heard this since the 1980s this is my cohort my age group these women now pouring into treatment centers are finally saying it is my time to get better. when i got better there was no recognized treatment you had to get fortunate to have a role model to be in a group like over eaters annot mouse, put together the right -- anonymous, put together the right therapy only one in ten women with an eating disorder gets better and two thirds never get better there have been some very discouraging articles over the last few decades basically saying people like me don't exist we don't exist we never get better we are always recovering and that is just not so. so my age group is now you know

may have the resources, the eating disorder or the insurance reimbursement to go into a treatment center coinciding with a historic low in women's well being they are saying i have had enough and have been subclinical since their teen years it is kind of a disorder we hear that of young women but these women have been struggling for decades all through raising children, having corears juggling everything -- careers, juggling, everything, how they survive is a testament to the strength they have. >> it would occur to me often this group i am in this group with you, would be the ones that people sort of say well, they have everything under control they juggle family life, they are top executives or working every day, so but they are a victim of their own success in some ways. >> well, i think a lot of them are capable women i went to harvard there were eating disorders all over harvard they

are everywhere. in some of the finest schools in the country in the white house we get calls from the white house, embassy row, so these are very smart women capable women but they have had this eating disorder for as long as they can remember they don't know what it is like to have periods of recovery for many of them they have raised children often daughters they are seeing maybe they have passed along the wrong messages been hopping on and off scales, talking about their weight and bodies some of them begin to see what have i passed along, to this next generation and it is time to take care of this. >> caroline, it occurred to me want to talk about symptom what is to lookout for but as you said these women have been dealing with this through most of their life what is the advice you would pass along now to those watching maybe some of those daughters who say i think my mom has a problem. >> talk ask for help, speak i think a lot of people are ashamed of this i am not at all ashamed this is part of my past

for glee camp next summer and having a special session just for us here this morning at the buoy center for performing arts, denise sing joins me now, good morning to you. >> good morning holly. >> you know this is just something i am sure when you saw the show you were like huh finally someone else gets it. >> you are exactly right. someone else loves this music loves singing as much as we do, has fun with the songs. >> so you tyke the things the kids -- so you take the things the kids want to do but they are really singers first and dancers ands second let's talk about the choreography. >> there is a term called singers that move well so focus for us has always been to the voice and being able to project and thanks to beth they usually do, to choreography we choose, really choreography that is simple, easy to do, doesn't take away from the voice you will notice when they do everything, they are still facing the audience and still singing so they are always
