7:39 am
this happened and when. it happened. the only issue for the jury is how much time will be served by the defendant, and that's the concession the defense has made. >> speaking to the -- that premeditation question, in the early days it did come out that norwood had called murray back to the store. they met at the store. and then this fight happened. the defense saying she just lost it basically, didn't mean to kill her. but also in the interviews after, which i believe the tape was played, you heard norwood basically ask how is my friend? sort of setting up this whole story about it. how important is all of that? >> it's important for the prosecution to lay it out to show this was premeditated and premeditated lies after the fact, actually. really important for the prosecution. what the defense is saying and what they'll continue to try to prove is these lies had so many holes in it, she was so disoriented it didn't really
7:40 am
make sense. for example, the leading example for the defense is the defendant's hands were bound above her head and her feet were bound. but when the police found her, she had not undone the ropes or the connections on her feet. if this was premeditated, if she was cold and calculating, she would have done that and left the store. these facts cut both ways in this case, which makes it fascinating. >> we'll be watching. thanks for helping us sort it out. this is a. scott bolden, managing editor with reed might. >> thank you for having me. >> we'll be back. look, every day we're using more and more energy.

wallace joins us with a preview. good morning. >> good morning, steve. yeah, we do have the first interview with rick perry as a presidential candidate. when he first announced back in august he was in the 30s in the polls. he was the front runner. now he's in single digits. obviously the poor performance in the debates has hurt him. he's trying to relaunch his campaign, reboot his campaign. second chance to make a first impression. he announced a bold economic plan this week. he has a lot of money, so that's big advantage, with commercials. he says he's not going to participate in all the debates. some, but not all. and we'll talk to him on sunday about how he's trying to launch perry 2.0. >> it will be fascinating to hear. even the fox news poll, which has him i believe in fourth place now, but herman cain at the top. latest word is he's going to scale back and maintain that
8:20 am
presence and not get too controversial. what do you make out of where they line up? >> it's interesting. i think mitt romney is the legitimate front runner. has the most money and most experience, has the biggest staff. but the voters just don't seem to cotton to him. he's kind of got a ceiling of about 25 to 30%, which means 70% is looking for somebody else. at one time it was trump, at one point bachmann, and at one time perry, and now it's cain. a lot of the insiders have doubts about cain and stand up to the scrutiny. he's had a rough couple of weeks with his comments on abortion, and trading all the guantanamo bay prisoners for a single american hostage, if that were to happen, sort of what the situation in israel. but having said that, the voters still like him and are embracing him despite the controversy. i wouldn't count perry out yet.
8:21 am
i think romney is probably the real structural front runner and cain, he's got the greatest advantage, voters like him. >> no doubt about it. will be interesting to see what perry has to say. fantastic power player this week, somebody involved in the senate we don't know that much about? >> barry black, he is the chaplain of the u.s. senate. has been there since 2003. he will tell you, keeping confidentiality about ministering to some of the most powerful people in this country. >> see you sunday morning. >> thanks. >> you can watch it 9:00 every sunday here on fox 5. 8:21. up next, news for all you metro riders. where you'll see delays this weekend. and how you could spend more time on your commute starting today. holly, what are you working on? >> reporter: you'll need to save extra room if you're going to indulge in the treats we're coming up with this halloween.

8:35 am
reported on it and we were horrified when we heard about what happened to you. i would like you to take us back to that horrific incident back in 2009 with this woman who said she was your friend. can you tell us about it? >> well, i had never met her prior to what happened. she started calling my phone, and she approached me, told me she was a caseworker that helped out pregnant woman who were in need. at the time i was in a shelter. i believed her. i gave her my information. i told her things about my children. i told her about my recent marriage. so there were things she knew about me that a friend would know about another friend. but when you have the position of a caseworker, those are things you should know. it just turned ugly. >> when did you realize something was not right here? >> well, nothing seemed weird to me about her when i met her. when we first actually met.
8:36 am
she was very nice, soft-spoken. nothing struck me weird, until we got to her home. it just was like she totally snapped. she threw a blanket over my head and started beating me with a fireplace poker. my first thought wasn't that she wanted my baby. i just thought she was a psycho. >> right. it would turn out that she would indeed try to cut this beautiful baby from your womb. can you tell us about that moment, or what was happening then in your mind? >> while she was cutting? >> while she was doing that. did you think i have to get out of this or i'm going to die here today? >> at first, yeah, i thought i was going to die. i did. i figured, why don't you just kill me. nopoint in you -- i thought she
8:37 am
wanted to torture me at first. but, you know, she was feeding me and things like that. i just thought, eventually i'm going to die. i didn't think i would live through anything like that. >> at one point, at the worst point, and i'm sorry to take you back to this day, but i want the viewers to know how you survived. your stomach was cut open, inside exposed and you managed to get away. where did that will come from? >> to be honest, i wouldn't even know. i just wanted to leave. i didn't want to die in there. i would rather die having somebody trying to save my life than to just give up and die in the hands of somebody like that. >> ultimately, this was a 40- year-old woman. she wanted this beautiful baby that's in your lap right now. when you think about that, she's now been sentenced to 25 years for her crime against you. when you think about her, what
8:38 am
are your feelings now? >> i'm glad she's where she is. she needs to be where she is. she doesn't need to be in society. she's a liar. she lied in my face. in the judge's faces. but, you know, it is what it is. truth is truth. only god and that person knows what was going through their mind when it happened. i'm not angry with her, i don't hate her. but at the same time, she's where she needs to be. >> this is the baby that you were carrying when this happened. i don't even need to ask if she's healthy and happy and bright, because she is all of that and more. she saw herself on the monitor, she's checking herself out. she's 2 now? >> she'll be 2 december 6th. >> you shared something with our producers earlier. you have that will to survive
8:39 am
and to beat all the odds. you were told you couldn't get pregnant after that, but you and your family, you're expecting another baby? >> yes, i just found out last friday that i am eight weeks pregnant. >> congratulations. >> thank you. >> and the baby, she's fine, mama, she's okay. chris has her. we appreciate you coming on. this cannot be easy to talk about. it will air sunday at 8:00 p.m., "will to live" the story is called, "i want your baby." we'll be right back.
