lacrosse player is facing charges for the may 2010 death of love. alert this morning for residents in virginia, after four separate attempted abductions in the past month the latest saturday night an 8- year-old said she was approached by a stranger in a van, but when the man tried to get the girl to come to the van she ran inside her home. >> the search for a missing montgomery county man now a homicide investigation. he was reported missing last monday body discovered along a road in hanover, anne arundel county. we continue to monitor developing story, child sex abuse charges rocking penn state university. >> two top officials are expected to face a judge today.

say a simmons is back with -- sarah simmons is back with the story. they resigned after an emergency meeting of the board of trustees, both men could be arraigned today on lying to a grand jury and failing to report suspected child abuse. gary sandusky is suspected of abusing 8 young boys it took place between 1994 and 2009 and happened in his home and on the penn state campus. sandusky was once considered to replace joe paterno. some of those who know him are taken aback by the allegations. >> until i hear it from his mouth i don't believe it there is nothing i have ever seen that would lead me to believe

good news for hundreds of mountain climbers stranded on mount everest for a week due to thick fog. flight started taking off from the region's only airport this morning. >> hard to believe tens of thousands are still without power in the chilly northeast. more than a week after a rare october snow storm, in connecticut the state's largest utility says power may not be restored until wednesday. in oklahoma, the state recorded its biggest earthquake. no reports of serious injuries the quake caused quite a bit of damage oklahoma has seen a dramatic increase in seismic activity over the past two years. weird state of things. >> yeah, it is. don't like it too much. >> listen i want to start out

by first of all hello, start out by mentioning dense fog advisory a couple moments ago i misstated we did not have an advisory our computer did not update my apologies there is a dense fog advisory in effect out to the west. we have been talking about the fog all morning, but now there is an official advisory. here it is out to the west visibility has been reduced to a quarter mile or less. julie wright has been showing these pictures as well, allow extra time as the fog really really is quite dense in some areas. current temperature 41 degrees across the nation, cooler air in the east, there is a swath of mild air out to the west, 60 degrees right now in little rock, 56 degrees in st. louis, and behind a cold front which i show you in a moment much colder air in the teens, 20s. 30s back across the northern plains into the mountain states out west. here is a look at the national map satellite radar composite,

economy continues not to work all that well when you look at democrats in this state and around the country there are a lot of challenges they are facing going into 2012 for the republicans, governor mcdonald is one of the most popular in the country polls show a lot of virginians are happy with how he has performed as governor so far and that will give a boost to republican candidates, not only in northern virginia but around the state. >> sounds like good news for republicans in virginia but we all know people want to go out and vote for this type of election is low maybe 30% range something like that. do you see the turn out, being there, tomorrow and do you see it being enough for republicans to gain back control. >> i think republicans are more likely to win in the race again. we can just start by saying that but the circumstances are these races are low turn out when you do not have a congressional election, don't have a senate race don't have

avenuer nor's race -- governor's race you have turn out in the 30% range if you live in competitive districts, fairfax or louden, you are going to see a lot of door knocking, a lot of campaign workers to get people motivated in races like this, the bigger challenge, isn't so much who a person is going to vote for but get the people who are going to vote for you to the polls, do you have moderates really are the least likely to turn out in races like this you have more conservative republicans, and democrats republicans,. election times are out in force i think this is as much as you would for any other election, hopefully candidates are trying to get the message out. >> i think one of the interesting races to watch, is on the fringes of our area, the 17th senate district, this

stretches from fredericks burg to charlotteville a seat that it has been held repeatedly, despite tries to gerrymander him out. that is one of the places i think you can really watch, how could -- you are looking at more than $2 million being spent in this senate race it is a very competitive race. closer to home i would draw your attention to the potomac river district, 31st senate district, stretching from arlington fairfax and louden democratic held seat but open seat and you have a very aggressive door to door campaign being waged there. these are very competitive races, also i would draw attention to the springfield district, southern fairfax where you are looking at a potential problem for voters the incumbent name is is barker

and the challenger is baker this will be potentially a complications voters need to be exactly sure which candidate they prefer to identify there. one of the big issues in this district as others is extent to which democrat cats are lines up with -- democrats are lining up with obama. >> how does northern virginia sit in with the rest of the state is there a difference. >> absolutely when you look at virginia as a whole it is rural and more conservative than northern virginia. republicans to win this part of the state, you need a more moderate vision ability to appeal to voters more sentries you have a highly educated part of the state, government workers traditional republican themes of small government are only appealing if you are a federal contractor. you are looking at a situation where the traditional measures

60 minutes reran an interview with andy rooney that just aired in early october, celebrating his retirement after 43 years he died friday from complications after a minor surgery he was 92 years old. lyndsey lohan is out of jail after spending hours in the slammer she was booked last night for a 30 day sentence after violating probation but released due to over crowding this was her fifth jail sentence since being arrested twice for drunken driving in 2007.
