7:04 am
unbelievable emotions on campus have been building all week long as this scandal snowballed, culminating in the riots you saw last night. about 2,000 penn state students tore down signs toppled a tv truck and eventually had to be dispersed by police armed with pepper spray the mob scene followed the trustees firing of joe paterno and university president, graham spaniard. he has spent 45 years as head coach, national championships to his name, 409 victories his decision not to report child sex abuse allegations to police, may have cost him his job. >> penn state board of trustees tonight decided that it is in the best interests of the university, to have a change in leadership to deal with the difficult issues, that we are

7:08 am
whether university administrators handled that correctly when alerted to the possibility of sexual abuse by gerry sandusky. two penn state administrators face charges they did not it's fie accurately to the grand jury investigating those charges people were already upset and concerned about the way it was handled by penn state administration. now it has kind of been unfolding, people in the holding pattern waiting to see what is going to happen and there hasn't been a lot of information forthcoming from trustees they -- the chairman, the board, he did defend the way they handled it last night at that press conference you know, they want the look at the issue, with due diligence make sure they fairly considered everything and didn't want to just make an announcement hastily but there was frustration at lack of information available. it is very polar rising there are those who say, look
7:09 am
let's keep it straight there is an issue of abuse in children abused, perhaps, joe paterno is not the person who should be the fall guy for that. everybody is viewing this differently people seem to be strictly adhering to their viewpoint. should joe paterno after saying he would retire after the end of the season should he have had one last chance to coach in happy valley. >> there was that sentiment last night there were gasps when the announcement would be made that his time was over and students took to the streets immediately downtown, they were very upset with the news upset with the media coverage and the night before they surrounded joe paterno's house in state college to show support for him a lot of people did feel that way you should have just been able to have this one final game but i will add, as a caveat to that there were people who felt he should have

7:36 am
going to pull him out of the rest of the debates i think that would also be harmful a lot of people are majoring right now, who is capable of standing on the stage with president obama, next fall when those debates take place and they are measuring candidate s with that as one of the criteria, certainly not the only criteria but one of the criteria. >> how damaging was it? >> today's social media it is all over youtube, it never goes away like the problem george alan had didn't seem to be a serious problem at the time but got blown out of proportion, this is an enormous thing considering your position, you can't remember the three things you want to make smaller. >> what made it uncomfortable he seemed to refer to his notes he seemed to have a moment to get his thoughts together but
7:37 am
it didn't come back to mind for him for me that was uncomfortable to watch what does that say to someone who might have voted for him. >> people measure presidential candidates in a variety of ways people thing this is some body we are going to send to represent our country to sit down with national leaders, with the head of china or japan or european leaderdo we want some body, who we have a concern, that they will not be able to handle the job, particularly well p. so they measure people based upon those sorts of criteria, and the problem for perry is if this had been one gaffe at one time it would be one thing the fact is last night, it just built upon a narrative that has been there about his campaign for several weeks. >> and ended with him dismissing it like he actually says the word oops because i can't recall it. >> when the pressure is on is when people need to shine when
7:38 am
the president of the united states is put in in difficult position you have to thing on your feet you have to understand all the ramifications seems to me perry dunce great p all that -- -- doesn't grasp all that. the president is put under pressure every day of the week. >> one way i measure people and whether or not i will support them for president, what happens one hour later a major crisis arices in the world who are -- arises in the world who are people who have the depth of judgment to make the right decisions at that point your advisors are all new, you know you don't know who you can rely upon who you can't and you have to have the depth of judgment and i think that is one of the things being evaluated here in terms of this whole field of
7:39 am
candidates. >> let's move on the herman cain did gain momentum with his tax plan, came out money was being thrown at his campaign people started getting onboard and then allegations of sexual harassment and his response to that can we talk about -- this is nothing -- you don't have to be a science major to know politics can be dirty at times dirty, things allegations get thrown back remember when this happened but how did he handle if for you >> i think he handled it terribly one thing i have learned in washington dc you either tell the truth or keep your mouth shut you can't fudge these issues because when you are on the national scene people are going to find out the press is going to find out exactly what happened his flippant attitude gives me great concern and now the latest threat from his lawyer if anybody else comes forward, you better be careful. you are threatening if there is any other women out there we will sue you. that is not the way to handle
7:40 am
it on the national scene. if there are 5,000 who haven't, -- he doesn't handle it well he has not been forthcoming that is why the press continues to keep trying to figure out what happened either you say it or keep your mouth shut. >> well, again, i think the fact that in the earliest days of this, that the story kept evolving, you know there was not a common theme to his answers, that it kept evolving, gave people a sense of discomfort about just what is the whole story, and i think that is what they have to do and from my perspective, remembering of course i am an advisor tonight gingrich. >> i feel much better. >> he is -- newt gingrich. >> i feel much better. >> he is doing really well. but you need to have a real story and put all the facts out on the table.
7:41 am
it seems to me it is to his advantage at the present time for the restaurant association to come out and put all the facts of those agreements, on the table so that everybody knows what the real details are. we -- >> well, maybe. >> you feel it is too late. >> well, -- >> precisely, i understand that, but you know he has to deal with the realities of this situation, at some point. he is running for president of the united states. >> congressman russo, congressman walker see you next week hopefully. we will be right back ththththtt

teenagers, having babies, and we hasn't seen that almost adult child raised by a now adult parent and that dynamic of that relationship and trying to bridge that gap, of friend or foe or peer, between a young mother, and a very almost adult child. that was the motivation. was the movie shot entirely in dc? >> just about i did a little bit in new york for the most part it was all shot here. >> fantastic, there is a screening, at the landmark e, street, this evening. >> yes. >> can we still go? can public still go? >> well, we are kind of at our brim for tonight but we will have an after party you can come, to the park and meet the cast and celebrate with us if you like. >> this is a movie that is going straight to dvd >> yes. >> which i guess begs the question is it hard still for

these stories to be told -- is it hard for these stories to be picked up by main stream hollywood as an actor i am sure you deal with this as well. >> absolutely. absolutely i think we still live in a time where, we are pigeon holed as a community it is not a black issue not a black female issue it is a female issue period. i have been saying this over and over again the last couple days i was so excited three of the movies that did so well over the summer were all movies lead by women, and i want to see more of that, and even though our movie is going straight to dvd, i think we are creating -- there is a real marketplace now, in the dvd market, and i hope it will create a domino effect people will see this movie and be interested in those stories and know they are marketable as well. >> before we let you go, i have to say that we love you i haven't seen you on stage but i
