a clash with police when police in riot gear took over the park through the protestors out, allowed them back in minus their tents and sleeping bags. however protestors say it doesn't matter what action the police took their movement is big than a park. it is a day of international action >> i am really excited for the hopeful shut down of wall street itself. >> this is an opportunity today, tomorrow, and for days to come that larger and many ways of a different modality and we can in some way go into different ways of behaving that are more successful. >> you can see we still have tents in our city quite a few of them covering every squarism of mcpherson square. i just got off the phone with james adams, with the our dc movement not to be confused

with the occupy dc movement. he said the march to key bridge is part of a national day of action his group organized they are being joined by the occupy dc group this is important in speaking with james adams this morning he said his group our dc is not planning to interfere with traffic on the key bridge but rather have a protest on the periphery and make their point about wanting more jobs in this country however they do not have a connection or affiliation with occupy dc. i will hash this out in the next hour and let you know what is going to happen. with a big stream of people heading down to the key bridge, it is likely to draw attention from commuters and thus cause problems more in the 8:00 a.m. hour. i am stacy cohen back to you. >> thank you other news the man suspected of shooting at the white house waiting to go in front of a judge in pennsylvania this afternoon.

21-year-old oscar ortega hernandez was arrested at a hotel in pennsylvania. he is accused of firing shots from constitution avenue, friday night that hit a window on the third floor of the white house, outside the obama family residence. he may have had a hate red for washington and the president. new this morning a plane headed to our area delayed in palm beach florida because of a suspicious substance. that flight grounded, passengers evacuated, crews did a sweep the substance was safe the delayed flight came home last night. president obama arrived in indonesia in the last hour he is there for summit of asian countries last night he addressed parliament saying the united states is a pacific power and we are here to stay and they will expand their influence into the asia pacific region where china is the most

powerful country. china's maritime disputes with other asian countries tops today's agenda. the energy secretary will be in the hot seat on capitol hill, facing tough questions on the bankrupt solar energy company, that cost tax payers, $500 million. the white house role is under the microscope. >> reporter: the point man on this will be on capitol hill to find out why solindra got so much tax payer backing. shedding sunlight on solindra congress wants to know why the defunct solar panel manufacturer got so much help from federal loans. the nobel winning physicist who heads the u.s. department of energy. >> certainly if there are lots of people telling him don't go through with this we need to know why this happened any

arrested last spring protesting for autonomy in district of columbia including mayor vince grey, six people found guilty of blocking a city street and not leaving when ordered to. a judge fined them up to $200 at the end of a two day trial some are continuing to fight for dc state hood and angry at congress for trying to ban them there using their own money for abortions for low income women. >> they mean a lot to us we are singled out as the only jurisdiction that can't spend its own local funds the way it wants to. >> city leaders are rejecting a plan to give the district more control over the budget because of the abortion ban. >> nearly a decade passed since jerry sandusky was allegedly spotted behaving inappropriately with an under aged boy while an assistant football coach claims to have reported the incident police

say they have no record of that report. >> reporter: 2002 when penn state football coach says he witnessed jerry sandusky raping a young boy in a school locker room authorities charged sandusky with a crime november 5th. now many are wondering why it took nearly 10 years for that to happen. >> i believe the office of the attorney general did everything they could and moved this case along as quickly as we could with resources available. >> reporter: a number of people have been fired or stepped down from the university for not doing enough to stop sandusky. mcquery counters the claim saying i did stop it not physically but made sure it was stopped when i left that locker room i did have discussions with police and official at the university in charge of police. but penn state's campus police as well as the state college police department say that never happened. coach joe paterno is among

>> his story could prompt a new law. >> reporter: looking at daniel, a beagle mix, now, it is hard to imagine he survived a gas chamber but he did. you see he was left in an alabama animal shelter a few days later he and other dogs were supposed to be put down only some how, daniel lived. >> when the door was opened he was alive, and wagging his tail and the operator didn't have the heart to put him back in apparently thought he might pass away during the night because of ingesting the gas but next morning he was still a happy, healthy dog. >> sit. stay. >> reporter: after his or deal the shelter decided that daniel could be adopted out nuttily new jersey dog trainer, joe and his family brought him home. >> a lesson to teach all of us humans he is one happy go lucky guy. >> daniel found us more than we found him. >> reporter: daniel has been checked by the vet and he doesn't appear to have any ill health effects from his experience as you can see, he

deadline it seems democrats and republicans are far apart on a deal where does it currently stand. for answers, chris van holland, democrat on that super committee joins us this morning we do appreciate it we know you are busy. >> good to be with you. so, we all just want to know are we closer or close at all to this deficit reducing deal by next week. >> we are all very focused trying to get the job done. sunday night, monday, i was very hopeful we were coming together, democrats put an offer on the table, republican had we were working to bridge the differences between the two then of course yesterday, republican cochair went on television and said they were not moving off their original proposal, which does not meet the test of doing something for the economy and for jobs, and tackling the deficit in a balanced way meaning we have to make tough cuts but should also

close some corporate tax loopholes and ask the folks at the top to go back to paying what they were during the clinton administration. i am hopeful we can get things back on track we will have to see. we are certainly going to be standing by and we are ready to negotiate, 24/7. >> it will come back to that point and how close or far apart we are. since you did bring it up that television appearance front page of the post, talks about a possibly identity crisis with the republicans on the super committee, i want to talk about what it says in this article basically behind the scenes, some of the defenders of the tax breaks in place have said to their colleagues, maybe we can budge a bit maybe we can look at the tax code maybe we can raise taxes again in public the story seems different. >> this is the fundamental question whether at the end to have day republicans are willing to take that balanced approach by that i mean we have

to make very tough cuts and reforms, but also need to look at the revenue side of the equation that is what every other bipartisan group has done and what we've asked is that we sen shelly take that -- essentially take that same approach in our bipartisan group. there is this discussion going on within the republican party whether or not they are willing to do anything meaningful when it comes to the revenue side of the equation. and, you know, the next couple days, will determine the answer to that question >> again a very different story for the media. let's listen to what we are talking about this is a bit of the interview from republican congressman jeb henserling. >> with respect to my democratic colleagues i want to make it clear these are honourable people i believe they negotiated in good faith but what i have yet to see is a plan that fundamentally solves the problem even the president

said the major drivers of our debt are medicare, medicaid, health care nothing else comes close. >> yet behind closed doors asking his colleagues to take a look at tax breaks what is the story here. >> well, with respect to what my colleague said, he hasson gosh crated in good faith but -- he has negotiated in good faith but with respect to what he said democrats have put on the table, reforms that would make some reforms in medicare for example, deal with the so called eligible. people on medicare, medicaid, lots of conflicting incentives within the system my point is that reforms are necessary what we will not do, is end the medicare guarantee, which is what the republican budget called for essentially saying seniors, you no longer can be on medicare you have to go into the private health market by the way you have to eat huge

additional costs you will face. we are willing to reform the program not end the guarantee. with respect to revenue, this is an ongoing struggle, grover norquest has had almost every member of the republican party sign this, saying i won't raise revenue or taxes on anybody even if it is by closing corporate tax loopholes our view is that the commitment of members of congress, should be the pledge we have all taken, as constitution not this dog document they have sign -- document they have signed for this particular individual. >> if we do not reach this deal by next week what would happen then. >> bad news because it would send a signal that congress was unable the bridge these differences it is not clear what the reaction in the markets would be, because if we do not succeed, there will be these automatic cuts, that would also achieve savings of

$1.2 trillion, now, no body should want to do it that way because they are across the board cuts, arbitrary, it should be done in a rational way, through negotiations of this committee but that would be the result those cuts would begin to take place in january of 2013. but we remain working hard, we are still working hard the try to avoid that consequence. >> is there a middle ground? might this be pushed? are you saying by at that deadline if it is not reached -- >> this is a hard deadline, wednesday november 23rd, we are going to have to work all weekend to try to bridge these differences, we are hoping our colleagues have not walked away from the table by the comment, the other day saying they weren't going to budge, off this original proposal, that did not meet the test of balance and did not do anything with respect to jobs and economy. >> chris van holland of maryland and the super committee, we will be covering this thanks for being here

be giving us heart disease the fox medical team's beth galvin is here to talk about the relationship between our heart and minds. good morning. >> reporter: good morning alison when you talk to a lot of heart patients they are convinced that stress at last played some role in them getting sick but can it physically damage your heart that is something researchers are trying to figure out now. they are studying heart disease survivors to try to find out what role, if any, chronic stress played in their disease process. now we know for example, heart disease is linked to depression and people often experience depression after a heart crisis that can slow healing, raise their risk of having another bad heart event but there are questions about long term stress and its effects on the heart. we know when we have immediate like major stress that our body goes into a fight or flight mode our blood pressure goes up heart rate goes up but what

effect, chronic stress has isn't quite so clear, scientists are trying to figure out if longer term stress can cause some of those same physical changes in the heart, and alison, at this point research is so new we don't know yet if there is a link between heart disease and chronic stress or that being chronically stressed raises your risk of getting sick with heart disease. alison. >> how common is depression you mentioned it but depression with heart disease. >> it is extremely common usually in the aftermath of a heart event they thing 30% of people -- thing 30% of people who suffer a heart attack or something, have to go through bypass surgery experience major depression and that can set them back if healing and doing what they need to do. so something doctors are increasingly paying a lot of attention to and trying to screen. >> the million dollar question would be what can we do to

their fun frozen winter wonderland. we were mentioning there are a lot more colors this year is that just us? >> reporter: well, they had a lot of color last year it was the grinch who stole christmas, the whole dr. sues theme but merry madagascar may have more color because it is tropical maybe they added a little extra but it doesn't feel tropical in here. it is 9 degrees keep that in mind when you come out to enjoy this. you will enjoy it when you are here. the ice show producer scott, they were noticing back at the station they thought it seemed more colorful this year. >> we did add quite a bit more color. >> reporter: see you guys were observing correctly. >> i remember last year dr. suess being colorful as well but i love it is yet another story. so let's talk how you start

with clear blocks of ice. the ice here is from three different ice factories around the states. they are frozen in the ice, 2 colors. -- the colors. it amazing me how opaque the colors are. maybe this is a silly question but is it normal food coloring? what do they use. >> we do use a food coloring, it is bio degradable so it can be you know people touch it, nothing to worry about it. >> so you can touch it. >> you are not supposed to but when they do touch it because we know people always want to know is that really ice? >> yeah, people are going to touch it which brings me to the fact that while you have the ice carvers here they worked for 30 days to make all this, it is a continual process throughout the whole show. >> it is there is maintenance needs to be done every day on this sort of attraction, especially of this magnitude

over 2 million pounds of ice in here. >> and so, i think i asked this last year because the ice sculptors come from harbin china and they thought dr. suess was a green monkey, do they know this story at all? >> a little bit they've got the plans and drawings and stuff in august, september they started preparing. >> yeah, so takes some time. so as we are watching one of the sculptors here at work how many different types of tools do they use. >> a lot of the guys make their own tools they are hand made tools and a lot of them we've got carvers, this is one of our master carvers, detailed carver he has been carving for 10 years, we've got some of the senior gentlemen doing it for 40 years. >> do they ever share their skills with people while here? do they do workshops? >> here we don't because we don't have the time. it is basically 12, 15 hours a

day while here but back in china they have apprenticeship programs the younger carvers learn from the older carvers that is the world's largest outdoor ice show there. >> what is the biggest challenge putting a show like this together. >> biggest challenge in a show like this, number one, maintaining your temperatures. >> how do they determine at 9 we couldn't kick it up to 19. >> yeah, 19. >> that is still below freezing. >> yeah, but there is a point they determine the ice starts to melt a little bit, and you loose color we try to keep that around, 9, 12 degrees and that is a good temperature for maintenance every morning and evening they spray water on here. just because of the air movement in here, because it tends to break down they are constantly maintaining. >> have you been a part of all the shows here. >> this is my first year, in washington i was at the gaylord palms last year in florida.

it is just so slow and monotonous like get away from me. >> reporter: you spend a lot of this movie in a pretty deeply emotional state when that camera shuts off do you turn back into yourself? >> i do try to lose myself but i also view my characters as someone else that i have a huge responsibility to, um, so some times they play -- some times i just can't stop thinking about doing it justice it is not like i go i am never effected by the emotions they are going through more like i feel for them you know what i mean i very rarely have played parts where they get into my own head in terms of what i can relate to in my life it is rare it is really more about feeling bad for someone or -- and not being able to stop thinking about how horrible it must be do you know what i mean. it does feel like someone else. >> there you go.
