rockville with more is captain paul stark. good morning. thank you for joining us. good to see you this morning. before we talk about the three- car jackings that we think are related, can you give us the latest on the new one at the burger king that you don't think is related to the others? >> that's right, tony. thanks for bringing that up. we believe this is an isolated event and more of a crime of opportunity. temperatures weren't that low last night. two suspects were sitting at an outside table at that burger king. a male and female drove up, tried the front door of the burger king, realized it was closed and then became part of a crime. one of the suspects produced a gun, took the car, drove away. >> okay. and obviously you are looking for those people? do you have a description? >> right now we are trying to confirm the description of the suspects. >> all right. let's move to the other
9:03 am
carjackings which you do believe are related because the methodology in the crimes seems to be similar in the cases. tell us what you know about the latest in those? >> as you started this story, wednesday, saturday and sunday the past six days, we believe the same speck has april -- suspect has approached older people shopping at or near the west field wheaton mall. the first two were outside the giant food store and the third one sunday was exiting the target store which is about 50 or 100 yards away from the giant food store. he forced, each time, forced the victim into the car, had them drive to different locations trying to extract money from the atms, getting cash from their accounts. after he is through, he leaves them in the car and walks away on foot.

>> can you tell us, we are showing the surveillance video that you all released yesterday. can you tell us, have you received any more leads or tips from people since releasing the video? >> we just released the video last night. investigators are still going over data that has been coming in. i can't confirm whether it's anything that will provide real results. we believe with the coverage that you and other media outlets have provided, somebody this person's face, maybe the clothing, maybe the way he is walking even will strike a clue. crime solvers is offering up to $1,000 for a reward that leads to this person's arrest and the victim's rights foundation, a nonprofit, is considering adding $5,000 to that reward as well. >> all right. do you want to give safety tips to people out there since this has been happening over and
9:05 am
over again. can you tell us have patrols been picked up at the mall. >> what was the last question, tony? >> can you tell us if patrols have been increased around the mall? >> yes, they have. i just spoke to the district commander of the fourth district this morning. there are more officers being assigned to that area but officers that would normally be there obviously have a heightened sense of awareness of this suspect and other activity. in addition to that, the police department and security at west field mall have a good relationship. we continue to coordinate and communicate about this issue. as far as safety tips, do we still have time for those. >> please give them to us. >> okay. during the holiday season, a lot of people are out shopping, more so than they normally would be. if you use cash when you go to a mall, we suggest you get cash from an atm prior to going to the mall or store, that way you
9:06 am
have it with you. keep your wallet or your purse closed, by your side. if you are going to use an atm or credit card, make sure no one is behind you when you get cash or when you are conducting a transaction at the register. hold on to that receipt as well. that could be away that a criminal can get into your account also. when you park your car, as you leave your car, turned around, look where you parked. that way when you exit the mall, you don't have to remember where you parked. you can make a direct line to your car. have your keys in your hand, be off your cell phone. be walk wearing a purpose, get in the car, lock the door. >> pay attention. keep your eyes open. captain paul starks with montgomery county police. thank you, sir. we hope you catch this guy soon. we appreciate your time this morning. >> thank you for doing the story. >> allison? police in maryland, tony, have joined in the hunt for a woman already wanted in a crime spree in virginia.
