will be heavy at times. because we were expecting several inches or at least a possibility of several inches of rain. national weather service issued a flood watch. this goes into effect at 1:00 through the evening hours and that includes the district of columbia and other counties loudoun county, virginia prince george's county under that flood watch. you can see our viewers out to the west and into portionsful west virginia and western maryland under the flood watch. got the flood watch this afternoon. then the rains transitions during the evening hours. believe it or not to snow. we have winter weather advisory for counties just off to the north and west. that star is the district and you can see much of the area under winter weather advisory through 1:00 tomorrow morning. there is the possibility that we could get some accumulating snow. not going to be big snow. i think here close to washington we will probably see just some wet snowfall during the evening hours. but parts of the area could pick up one to three inches of rain. or snow north and west during the evening hours.

here is your forecast today and a lot of rain. temperatures falling. 59 your day time high with rain heavy at times. more details coming up in just a couple of minutes. i will toss it back to you. thank you. our big story this is wednesday morning. protestors and police gearing up for another day of protests in the district. >> driver can see some delays in and around the k street area. fox five stacy is near mcpherson square with the details. good morning, stacy. >> reporter: good morning. it is a really desperately rainy day out here and that makes traffic bad enough. add to that a protest and things could get tricky down here on k street. take a look at a map. i will show you where they are supposed to have the protests today. we were told sometime around 11:00 it's a little -- the protesters could start about k and 13th and the march could go all the way the length of k street down to 22 street. it is a group of protestors or

i should say consortium of protestors. we have rdc and occupy dc. we have other groups that want to protest what is going on here on k street and elsewhere in the country. now take a look at what happened yesterday on capitol hill. this also was a separate group of protestors from occupy d.c. but some of the occupiers did joinism they marched on capitol hill to protest what they see as a government funding of big banks and corporations that protecting the 1% over the 99% of americans that these groups say are suffering in this hard economy. there was a sit-in at senator mcmcconnell's office. the protest was peaceful and lasted for quite sometime. here on k street, if the protests prove to be large and mixes with the traffic already on a rainy day on k street, it could be difficult. the merchants along here and the businesses have been warned about this. they are told to keep their doors locked. there is concern that some of the buildings that are targets such as lobbying firms and law firms and some of the better

known corporations here on k street that there may be an attempt to infiltrate the building so the doors will be locked even garages are told to be protected so that the protestors don't filter in that way. all this to say they are prepared for it to be a difficult day. we will see what happens. stay tuned. reporting live, back to you. thank you. >> well, on to some the other stories we were following today. rod blagojevich is expected to address the judge overseeing his sentencing hearing. the second day of proceedings to see how long the former illinois governor will spend behind bars. blagojevich was convicted of trying to sale u.s. senate seat once held by barack obama and 17 other counts of corruption. prosecutors are expected to ask the court to send blagojevich away for 20 years. former prince george's county executive jack johnson will have to turn himself in by february 3. a judge did sentence him to more than seven years in federal prison for his

role in a wide ranging pay to play scheme. earlier this morning current county executive baker joins us in the fox five studio to talk about the accomplishments in the wake of this scandal. >> we were poised greatly in the county. we have got contoura in the north that is a major development for us. the new carrollton metro station which is another development for us which will actually have this maryland department of housing community development, national harbor is doing great. the schools are making improvements. i think the hospital situation not just building a new hospital, but a regional medical facility which will be another part of the development in the county and keeping the triple-a bond rating was high priority. >> baker says that crime in the county is at a 35 year low in that improving those numbers and creating jobs are also his top priority. there is a new acting administrator leading the faa this morning.

this man michael hurta was the number two. he had been overseeing the ongoing modernization of the air traffic control system. he now takes over for randy babbitt who has resigned as he faces drunk driving charns. babbitt submitted his resignation yesterday. he was picked up saturday night in fairfax. police say he was driving on the wrong side of the road on old lee highway. they have not released his blood alcohol content. d.c. lawmakers are one step closer to passing new ethics rules for elected leaders. council has given first approval to a bill that will set up an eighthics panel, prevent felons from serving on the council and allow the d.c. attorney general to go after electedded officials accused of misconduct. the council member harry thomasjurej under federal investigation for using city funds for his personal use. council members can still make changes before second and final vote later this month. some disturbing news out of maryland now where police are investigating a stabbing that left a teenage girl injured. it happened last night during a

fight outside of north wood high school in silver spring. north wood's basketball team was playing kennedy high school. police say several girls from kennedy left the game early and started fighting in the parking lot. the teen who was stabbed is hospitalized with serious injuries. meantime teenagers in montgomery county won't be forced to follow curfew laws any time soon. despite several proposals the county council voted 6 to 3 to table a bill to establish a youth curfew. county's police chief says he is disappointed with the decision. >> i'm very disappointed. settlement from the council seemed to be things aren't bad enough. i disagree. i don't think we should wait for things to get bad enough to take this kind of action. >> the curfew can be reconsidered at a later date. the bill called for anyone under 18 to be out of public places by midnight on weekends. and 11:00 p.m. on week nights. a judge is set to begin

hearing testimony today on whether virginia tech should pay $55,000 in fines in connection to the 2007 shooting rampage which left 33 people dead. university officials and the families of the victims are among those expected to testify. the education department says the school was too slow in notifying students, faculty and staff of the safety threat. the university maintains it acted appropriately while responding to this emergency. the families of 29 miners killed in an explosion at a west virginia mine last year will receive a historic 200 -- $210 million settlement. the exploals at upper big branch mine was one of the worst u.s. coal mining disasters in decades. families say no a money will be enough and they want to see criminals prosecutions. behind me here you are seeing a live look at the u.s. navy memorial downtown. today is the day of remembrance on this the 70th anniversary of the attack on pearl harbor. in hawaii survivors will be on

hand to pay respects to the nearly 2400 men and women who lost their lives. fox has more. >> reporter: on december 7, 1941, japanese aircraft bombed the american naval base in hawaii. the sudden attack thrust the united states into the second world war. nearly 2,400 americans died in that attack alone. the number of survivors are dwindling. still some veterans have begun arriving in hawaii ahead of a ceremony honoring the 70th anniversary of that attack. survivors taking a moment out to remember their fellow troops. >> picked up and take them down to my buddy in sick bay. he just went down the day before. when the bomb hit it went right down through the deck on the port side right after the number two turret and close to the sick bay and he didn't make it. >> one survivor's concern the historic of that will be

forgotten. >> teach children in school about the war of 1812 but don't teach very much about them teaching anything about pearl harbor. >> and decades later never before seen footage has surfaced shot at pearl harbor on that fateful day. the owner of the video is hoping it will be used as a learning tool. >> kids aren't getting the education. maybe i got her even people a bit older than i did. if we can get ten minutes of education on american history. >> president obama has named december 7 as national pearl harbor remembrance day. memorials are planned across the country and in hawaii a large ceremony to remember the dead will be held shortly before 8:00 a.m., the same time the attack began. in new york, fox news. here in washington, senator jim web will deliver the key note address at the world war ii memorial honoring all who served. the late notice race for the white house. coming up next on fox 5 morning news.

the race for the white house newt gingrich is gaining by leeches and bounds. new poll show he is the runaway front runner in the race for the republican presidential nomination and the momentum could carry him all the way to iowa. fox's doug laglder has more. the surges are about timing. for newt gingrich his surge comes as he needs it most.

newt gingrich is swarmed just about everywhere he goes now. and for some good reasons. here is one of them. a "washington post" abc news poll showing gingrich with a big lead over mitt romney and everyone else in iowa. and the national polls aren't much different. a stunning turnaround. >> yes, this is a nice christmas present. it's the holiday season and i feel better about it. >> he went the other way when he got paid to go the other way. >> it's about searr serial hipocracy. >> front runner, this new ad from ron paul and the gingrich rise has mitt romney sitting down for more interviews. something for so long he took pains to avoids in this is a time for me making my case. you will see me all over the country. >> and romney hopes that gingrich is one more flash in the pan. this time it could be different. >> it looks like he is doing what all of the other anti- romney wannabes couldn't do which is consolidate the

actor aldic baldwin gone all crazy losing a few fans this morning. foal passengers on his american airlines flight from l.a. to new york say that they are frustrated with his bad behavior. >> who are we going to talk to about this? >> jack will join us. live from l.a. this morning. don't go crazy with us. >> i will try not to. i love this story. >> i made the comment that you are so brave. you and your fellow camera people because i would be afraid taalek baldwin would haul off and punch somebody in the stomach. >> well, you don't mess with him when he is playing words

with friends. that's what we do know out of this situation which i think is hilarious. for people that don't know he was sitting on this american airlines flight waiting for it to take off. they closed the cabin door and he was sitting there playing words with friends on his phone when the flight attendant and said, sir, you need to turn off your phone and that's when he got upset. went to the bathroom, slammed the door so loud the captain could hear that. and called out to the flight attendant and said what is going on. found out it was alek baldwin and said get him off this flight. get him off the flight he was taken off. alec rebooked for the second flight and got on that one and went. we talked to people close to alec and said, look, he just got up and while they -- the -- they were so upset. in reality some of the other passengers had different things to say that he was pretty disruptive. >> this is a big story he is flying on a domestic carrier. doesn't he get to fly with -- >> people do this all the time.

>> i seen some folks playing that. >> and it's -- you know, start playing that. >> we will start. let's get to the weather and let me let you know what you probably already do know we will get rain around here today there you can see a live shot. and a lot of great skies and rain continues to fall throughout the region. cooler weather on the way and cooler weather and rain. could it become? yes it could, be snow later this afternoon. really tonight i think tonight is the night time hours starting out to the west. there is a live look there at your hd radar and the system moving in through slowly and we will watch the area of low pressure rides through. it was heavier earlier this morning and periods of rain. not going to rain every minute p minute but periods where we will pick up good rain. here is the satellite radar. and again this is a very vigorous cold front there. a area of low pressure developing off to our south and east and slide up the coast. as it does so, it will be able to drag that colder air.

temperatures this morning up in chicago and detroit, below freezing and drag tacolder air in behind it and the thinking is enough cold air will get in before the rain gets out of here and see that transition to snow and even here in washington we will see wet snowflakes after 9:00, 10:00 tonight. you will see it's snowing now in western tennessee. showed a live shot in memphis and the snow was coming down. again this is an interesting weather data. behind the system colder air on the way. i mentioned the flood watch for you at the top of the hour. we have a winter weather advisory not in washington. off to the south and east you might see the rain mixed with snow and ends about midnightup. we could see accumulations close to the city the accumulations is light. get further north and west of our viewers out here in the panhandle in west virginia up into north central maryland. you might pick up an inch or two heavy snow is in the mountains well out to the west. that's winter storm warning for western maryland. srg to keep an eye on. tomorrow morning temperatures are very close to the freezing mark particular lie north and west and some of this could stick on some of the area

decades at the american ballet theater. you can see her perform in the knit cracker at the kennedy center this thursday through sunday. but what a treat. she is in studio with us right now. it's a pleasure to meet you. >> thank you. >> welcome to washington. >> thank you. >> have you been here before? >> yes, abc comes here almost every year i'm used to being here and i love performing at the kennedy center. >> tell us about this production, american ballet, the nut cracker and your role. >> well, aleksei is the choreographer so this is only our second year doing his version of it and it's really amazing version. it's so different from the classic. >> so for fans of the dance, what will we notice that's different? >> i think that it's a little more modern. it's just -- it's the same story. it's just really creative. and i will be the part of spanish on opening night tomorrow night so you can see me at 7:30 at the kennedy center. >> excellent. i will tell you because i was trying to go on and get tickets that you are sold out and a lot

of those time slops -- slots but i want everyone to know it's at the kennedy center and please go on our website, myfoxdc.com, for times and available shows. you know, so much has been written about you. and how special you are. and your journey really is a unique road to the american ballet theater. when most people start this craft as wee little girls you started as a teenager at the boys and girls club. tell us about your story. >> i think i have an extremely background from most of the dancers i danced with. i started when i was 13 years old. i was discovered at a boys and girls club and my career took off i was dancing professionally for the american ballet theater and that usually takes 10 to 15 years of training and then being a black woman in this field is very rare. i feel like i have a lot of things working against me but at the same time i feel there are so many people that can relate to my story and i'm human. i'm not this untouchable object

on stage. >> it's truly amazing. reading in your background, on point and like months. this takes years. this takes years. >> it does. i always say i think i was born to do this i naturally had muscle even before i started dancing so my teacher was aware i was strong enough when usually it takes years of training to build the strength to go on point -- >> this is a hardship for anybody. dance is expensive and your mom was like no, no, my daughter is talented she is going take dance. it's sweet part of your story. >> she is very supportive and still is to this day. i'm thankful to have that. >> mentioned boys and girls club. you will be inducted into the hall of fame. >> how exciting. >> just being a among some amazing people and i just shot the psa denzel washington and jennifer lopez so it's nice to be in great company and have a dancer, it's rare, to see a ballet dancer that's made it from the boys and girls club. so so many boys and girls club

now have ballet studios and i go and visit them and it's amazing to see these young girls having the opportunity to have an actual facility which i didn't. i took my first class on a basketball court. it's really amazing. >> true talent cannot be stopped. i will say that. a lot is made about you are not the body image or the type that maybe you are used to. sitting here you are just perfect and i would say, i bet she is a prima ballerina. how do you answer those challenges? do you still have to hear that? or pretty much a give than you are a talented dancer regardless where you started and all of that other stuff. >> i think at this point -- and getting the opportunity and being a soloist, it's not a problem. it has been an issue in the past. you're supposed to look like the girl next to you and i don't in so many ways. it's okay. i'm happy to be in this position and let people know that it's okay to be healthy and to have muscle and we were

athletes as well as artists. >> and looking at that video clip, no doubt, you are a top notch athlete as well. before we let you go, your message out, there i have three daughters and one of them came in-studio today because she loves dance. but it's challenging. and stieps you want to quit. what's the message? >> i mean, i think it's so important for a especially young black women and young girls in general to feel they can be themselves and to accept everything that they are. and be comfortable and confident with that. i think that's important when you are in a position like this. and just being a woman in general. >> i find you to be an inspiration. and i wish you continue success many years dancing. thank you for stopping by. and again you can see misty copeland if you can get tickets at the kennedy center for the nutcracker through sunday the 11th. this is misty copelan and we will be right back. actually i will take it from here. wonderful to have her here. now we go on to more dance.
