front of a home in northeast dc has died a man found the baby girl wrapped up lying on the steps in front of a home chaning street northeast 3.5 miles away from children's national medical center that is where the little girl was take season later pronounced dead. wisdom mar -- taken and later pronounced dead. wisdom martin, sad ending. >> it is a very sad ending that baby was brought here to children's hospital after being found late last night as you just mentioned the baby did not survive i had a chance to speak with a man who found that baby late last night he was walking to the store, in between 11:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. last night when he says he found something laying on the side of -- on the steps he didn't realize it was a baby he went back in and got his father they came back out with a blanket realized it was a baby at that point he says outside on the steps, this infant girl, her skin was ice cold, her body was limp, she was bleeding from the nose did not appear alive

at the time he found her didn't have on a diaper just wrapped in a blanket just sitting on the steps, he says initially he thought it was a doll. >> i didn't know it could be a child i walked to my fathers house to have some body with me to make sure i am seeing what i am seeing as he came out of the house with a towel just in case it was a baby, we unwrapped the child and noticed it was a baby after he noticed it was a child we grabbed the child and walked it back into the house >> they called 911 and 911 emergency personnel tried to tell them what to do to revive the baby that did not work he also says the baby appeared to be in the neighbourhood of 2 weeks old brought the baby here to children's hospital we have been told the baby did not survive at this point, police are trying to figure out who left this baby and why back to you. >> wisdom thank you. in other new this is morning no charges have been

filed against the driver who hit and killed an 8-year-old boy, and sent his mom to the hospital. the pair was hit sunday afternoon in alexandria, duke street near the 395 overpass. the car continued down an embankment but the driver was not hurt there is to word on the mothers condition. new development in the embezzlement case against former dc council member harry thomas junior there will be another guilty plea in this case, james garvin will sign a plea deal this week he worked with a charity called the 21st septemberry foundation and helped cover up thomas' theft, the foundation already pleaded guilty to similar charges. on the campaign trail today, close eye on john huntsman he is expected to announce an end to his campaign some time today, we also expect him to throw his support behind mitt romney, huntsman placed

tipster. a detective followed up and believed it to be credible. >> marshalls say the men were living in an apartment complex in charlotte having just moved there a couple months ago from the atlanta area. investigators are trying to reconstruct the timeline of events but believe the men supported themselves in the drug trade. delaware death row inmate granted clemency, 49-year-old robert gaddis will spend the rest of his life in prison and not seek further appeals no more pardons according to the delaware board of pardons he was facing execution for the 1990 murder of his former girlfriend the board was swayed by facts that only emerged recently relating to abuse inflicted on him as a child by relatives. a woman woman covering this morning after she was rescued from the cno canal. montgomery county rescue crews say she was trying to help a dog when she fell in she was able to pull herself out of the

water evaluated for hypothermia both the dog and woman are doing just fine this morning. today is dr martin luther king junior day it is a time to honor and remember the civil rights icon. hundreds gathered for ceremony at the newly dedicated mlk memorial on the national mall yesterday. a wreath was laid at the foot of the stone of hope, martin luther king the third was among speakers at the event. >> but yes, we are celebrating the best of what we are but what we must become knowing that we have not arrived there yet. but people will come to our shores from all over our world, to stop at this memorial that represents hope and inspiration. dr. king would have turned 83 years old yesterday. the national holiday is always observed on the third monday in january. >> there are a number of events being held across our area,

go on and get information about the available puppies we have. also information on finding out how to be a foster or volunteer. >> now let's start with boris he will not be ignored tell me about this dog. >> this little guy is a 3 month old german shepherd. >> a baby. >> yes. >> he is actually one of our special needs puppies you would never know it by looking at him he is one of our special needs pups he has a disease that effects balance the breeder gave him up thinking he was blind, but his eyesight there may be a little something going on with his eyesight mostly just the syndrome and condition that gives him a little bit of an off balance most puppies can i guess adjust to that sort of thing he seems fine you would never know anything is wrong with him but we have special needs dogs senior dogs stuff like that in our rescue as well

we are just about an hour and a half away from the start of the martin luther king day parade. participants are gathering

friendship charter school, southeast washington joining us now is denise barnes publisher newspaper and one of the organizers of today 'ses parade yes -- today's parade yes, she is daughter of calvin and will hell my that, i can tell from the look it is quite cold but you are expecting big things for the parade today, right? >> oh, tony it is just fantastic, i mean a little confusion because you got so many participants out here today but the sun is shining it is getting a little bit warmer it will be a great day. >> tell us about who is involved for example, some might be surprised to hear in the parade today i believe scheduled you have chinese dragons, i mean a wide variety of entertainers tell us about that. >> well, you said chinese dragons we have a brazilian drum group, members of the lgbt

communities, horses, we've got i saw a big boat i think the coast guard brought in, and just so many people, i am just amazed we've got armor guard. >> national guard. >> from the hospital, folks, hadly memorial hospital it is a large group, six marching bands and from balloons, dunbar, anacostia, friendship collegiate academy, groups from baltimore. >> aside from being entertaining what do you hope young people in particular get from this parade. >> well, you know, it is what i used to hear that young folks got before everybody that i talked to across the city, pulling this parade together remembers the martin luther king parade marching out here in the cold and snow they thought it was a great day to

honor dr. king they missed this it is great for the community as well but, every little hiccup we have had this morning every pod disays it is dr. -- everybody says it is dr. king's birthday let's celebrate a great calming factor and this is just with a we are supposed to do today this would have been our 34th annual, martin luther king day parade and a great day to honor a man who did so much not just for this community but city nation and world. >> for a few years the parade was replaced by a peace march there have been controversy about moving it to april when it is warmer but here it is back gain in january. there are other events after the parade, in particular at covenant baptist church tell me about that. >> right they are having a program, covenant was the first location where the parade ended, in 1977, and they've always been a part of this parade and so they are going to

cathedral good morning. >> good morning. >> we are delighted to have you here. >> this is a tradition started 14 years ago talking about the celebration that is going on today the king in our midst why was it important for you to begin this. >> this is the spiritual home for the nation and important messages of dr martin luther king junior res nate, true today -- resonate as true today as 1968 when he preached that final sermon, at that pulpit. on that day, he talked about how by our faith, we would be able to hue out of the mountain of despair a stone of home that is what we hope to celebrate and remember today. >> what do you hope people will take away from today's celebration. >> one of the other things he said that day that was so important that we have to learn to live together as brothers and sisters or we will perish together as fools. and all of his messages, of hope, in the midst of despair
