freddie mac. claiming he lobbied for freddie mac. a consulting firm founded by gingrich received $300,000 in fees by freddie mac for consulting and related services in 2006. >> mitt romney released his tax returns this move comes after much criticism from his opponents. romney made more than $21 million in 2010 most of that from investments he gave nearly $3 million to charity and the mormon church, those donations helped cut his tax rate to 14% the presidential hopeful paid $3 million in federal taxes in 2010, his campaign released highlights to the wall street journal and washington post ahead of plans to publicly release documents today. now in the meantime many of the thousands of people who owe the government delinquent taxes should not be difficult to find they work for the government, government agencies, post office, members of congress.

ed o'keefe at the washington post you wrote about this, i mean 98,000 federal postal and congressional workers to the tune of over or more than $1 billion is what they owe. >> light put it in context americans owe -- right, put it in context, americans owe, $14 billion the irs doesn't break out how many bankers, school teachers, accountants they only look at federal employees, there is no law that says you have to pay your taxes if you are collecting a federal pay check. they say it should at least be watched. >> don't we all have to pay >> we do and irs does technically have to enforce the laws but they say look we don't have enough money or man power to knock on the door. post revealed this comes from the irs says this is just a break down tell us the progression of this report. >> sure irs compiles this every year and sends it to heads of agencies across the city so

they know, 2, 3, 4% of workers are not paying up they leave it to agencies to decide what to do about it. there is no law that says if you are collecting federal pay check you have to pay federal taxes there are proposals in house and senate but they are sitting in a committee waiting to be considered. >> that is amazing. >> look at everything else, waiting to be considers, the law would say if you are proven to be essentially ignoring tax laws you would be fired if you have some extreme financial hardships maybe one of your kids got sick and you have to throw all your money at that, middle of a divorce your house is being foreclosed, you should be allowed to keep working. the irs can come after all of us why aren't these checks then just garnished? like they would be for the rest of us. >> that is another proposal out there and that could very well happen any way if the irs went after their money but you know

it is not being done now again the irs says look we would love to track down everyone, our enforcement budget gets cut we can't hire more workers to track this stuff down and it can be complicated to track. this is a good start we know there is about 90,000 folks out there who aren't paying 1.03 billion in taxes in 2010 and it is up to agencies and government and congress to sort this out. >> let's talk about congress congressional staffers account for $10.6 million of taxes. >> that climbed from $1 million since 2009, 18,000 people who work for congress and about 4% of them roughly, are not paying up. you look over at the white house executive office of the president includes west wing, office of the management and budget and a few other small offices, you've got $850,000 owed there by 36 people, that is down in number of people up in overall tax from 2009. >> you found, in your piece

civilian workers with the defense department were the worst defenders does this have anything to do with maybe they are not around they are deployed? >> certainly those would probably be good reasons given but the big reason first of all is pentagon employees more people than anyone else, their percentages would be higher and you look at military, considerable amount of tax there among active and retored. so could be just -- retired, so could be just an issue with troops there. >> i was speaking of people in the military behind on their taxes for a reason. >> administration or congress is anyone looking to crackdown on this in real time. >> like i said you have two republican proposals, the house version has been pushed by the committee, you know this is one of dozens of proposals that are out there that we deal with

horse, artist, money ball, midnight in paris, the help, hugo and a big surprise for extremely loud and incredibly close a movie i reviewed this past friday a very very tough movie i am surprised it got nominated for best picture people have been split saying it is manipulative. but i don't understand why they couldn't just add one more nomination and throw warrior or a movie like drive there were so many great films this year but i was so happy to see wood dialan's midnight in paris, one of the best films of 2011 everybody should rent that film if you get a chance it will blow your mind. tree of life is a movie that split a lot of people as well. so it is an interesting list this year i thought 2011 was a great year for movies, i don't necessarily agree with every nomination but i just don't understand why they have to do one more. why nine >> can i tell you my choice, i would put in bridesmaids it wouldn't win but i would

nominate it, it was one of the funniest movies of the year they don't always do well with comedy >> i think you can agree with me on this, comedy is harder to do than drama. i think making people laugh, i completely agree on bridesmaids which was why it was a huge huge deal melissa mccarthy got a best supporting actress nomination i am very excited about because i have been sitting here all last week talking about how out of touch the oscars are. i still think they are out of touch but when you see something like that occur it brings faith back into the oscars i am excited about that but i do agree, bridesmaids is worthy of a best picture nomination, solely based on the fact that it makes you laugh for two hours straight it is very rare, very hard,. >> i want to go through some other nominees before we run out of time first, hugo, got 11 nominations and the artist got ten the artist, is very good but i don't know how many people will see it. best director, can you tell us

who was nominated? >> well, i am excited to see scorsese getting a nomination like you said, hugo got 11 nominations, number one movie of 2011, i am so happy, it beat out the artist for 10 nominations, woody alan midnight in paris. this guy he is making a 2011 silent black and white film, that is a very baring thing but i felt it did nothing new for cinema which is why i am hoping it does not win best picture nomination but oscars always go for that typical oscar movie like last year with the kings speech no btalking about the kings speech any more that is a forgotten film. oscars need to go for movies like drive and hugo i think are much better. terrence malik for tree of life, alexandre payne for descendents, and steve spielberg for war horse. i want to go quickly to
