just put him in his car seat, in her white 2007 acura mdx, it was parked in the families garage at their home on southern avenue southeast, the garage door was open the mother went inside briefly to get a second child who she was going to take to school when a man jumped in her car and drove away. >> horrible my sister said get to my house i live up the street, 10 minutes from my sister she said get to my house right now i said what happened she said they stole my car dion is in the car i was like oh, my god the worst feeling. >> the family is so grateful to the coordinated efforts of the metropolitan police department to be able to wrap this up so quickly there are reports that the acura had some body damage on it and we found out, that was because as the car was pulling out of the garage or speeding out of the garage it damaged the car on the families

association, lung association, have new information that younger children are more likely to develop asthma and chronic upper and lower respiratory infections of course at an earlier age if they have been exposed to smoking. younger children breathe in more rapidly, so, a young child actually would breathe more and more smoke, if they were a passenger in a car where others were smoking and it is just one of these things where common sense should be the solution but people don't pay attention to it until we pass legislation. >> under the law, if it becomes law would police officers be able to pull some body over if they simply observed them smoking in the car with a child. >> yes, they would there would not be a moving violation no

points but there would be possibly up to a $50 fine for that but the groups that are supporting this are the american lung association, american heart association, american academy of pediatrics, a lot of this -- these studies were done at johns hopkins and at nih and centers for disease control. >> let me ask you this not everybody supports it, some say this is just another example of government intruding into people's private and personal lives. >> well, one piece of information is that second hand smoke exposure costs $73 million a year, in children's medical treatment, so if we are thinking about -- i think if it were my child, i would not want her to be in a car pool with someone that was smoking and

so, it is some times this is a wake up call. i've learned so many things that i had no idea about, i am not a smoker but certainly after reading all the pages and so forth of testimony, it is -- parents need to wake up and be sure that kids are not smoking that parents are not smoking in a car, that the kids could be getting that. >> let me play devil's advocate for you for just a moment where do we draw the line. those that say you can't legislate stupidity you know they say well, why not make it against the law to force your -- or feed your kid a twinkie obesity is a big problem as well sweets are not good for the kids why not make that illegal. >> well, depends how much you love your child. actually my father died of lung

cancer, and he had never smoked but he worked with people who did, and that was at a time before we knew about second hand smoke. and i don't want anything like that happening to anybody any where that is the whole point of this, even if the windows are down, in a car, there is still a lot of that residual smoke that can get in the kids lungs their lungs are more sensitive and they do breathe more quickly, at a greater rate they breathe in more tar, carbon no knox aid, ammonia and -- monoxide, ammonia than adults. thank you we appreciate it. >> thank you bye. >> yep. >> coming up an event saluting women veterans taking place this sunday during women's

welcome back march is national women's history month this sunday march 18th there is a special event planned by the women veterans interactive it is to salute and celebrate women vets and acknowledge their role in servicing our country. ginger miller joins us this morning to talk about that activity. >> thank you for having me gwen. >> i read there is over 2 million women vets in this country and seems like the perception is better for males than women. yes, it is different a lot of times women vets don't acknowledge their own service to the country and have an issue identifying themselves as veterans they don't get the services and support they need. >> their voices are not heard

enough. >> correct not enough. >> you are having something special to try to salute the women vets in our country. >> yes, wane to do something women veterans come out, we are having our first annual women veterans empowerment, lunch and the key word is empowerment and unification. >> there is an interesting thing about this it is not business ware not any kind of special sunday ware but really a very basic casual wear tell me. >> our uniform for women veterans, is white collared shirts fancy jewellery and blue jeans the white shirt represents i am a woman jewellery that i am feminine but blue jeans i am casual enough to get down and get dirty to help system veterans out. >> this will be a real outreach tool for them. >> absolutely. >> somethings they will be able to enjoy is a dynamite guest speaker, who is a retired command sergeant major,

michelle jones va will be there to let the veterans know you can apply for benefits sign up for e benefits, we partner with business and professional women they have a great mentor ship program and we just have a lot of different outreach tools that will be compiled in a bag of goodies for veterans what women veterans don't want is to go to another summit or conference they leave with a bag of stuff they want peer to peer interaction as well. >> this gives them more visibility and support for things i am sure they come back and deal with a lot of things such as trying to find employment, maybe even not being able to keep up with bills and homes and that kind of thing. >> absolutely. this event is designed to first and foremost encourage women veterans to come out it is fun everybody wants to take a cruise even if it is a short cruise we have women who have signed up, women in a position to provide support for women veterans that need help. >> it is taking off sunday

a special needs school helped virginia celebrate her 103rd birthday she worked 40 hours a week at the foster grandparent -- as a foster grandparent at sharp school for the last 20 years she receive add new foot rest, skits in her honor and a dance with councilmember barry. >> i feel like if i just
