7:35 am
think what it means it is a definitive moment the campaign is over peter and i have been saying this for awhile, that the campaign is over and it is over the president has been on the air now for at least a week attacking mitt romney in television commercials in key states you know the folks in chicago and the white house know the campaign is over republican nomination is over, so i think this is the groves are off and both sides are going to -- gloves are off and both sides will come out singing. >> did you think it would be santorum not paul or gingrich? >> paul has nothing to lose he is not getting delegates not winning anything not having to spend huge amounts of money he will just be a force, with gingrich and paul they would like some kind of role n tampa at that convention so that is what they are playing for. i think santorum would too. when he says suspend what that means is that you are still raising money to pay off your
7:36 am
debt, and so, instead of saying i am withdrawing you say i am suspending that is what he did. but jim is right, the carl rogue group are ready to spend $200 million starting now going on the air, the obama people, have been the paragons of negative campaigning and are going to start right off the bat going after obama. we are going to see an engaged campaign, it is not post convention, it is starting now. >> that's right. >> let me ask you, what do you thing about rick santorum, mitt romney ticket? >> won't happen. >> won't happen. >> no, mitt romney is going to go, for the independent voter or he is going to go for the voter that is a swing vote inner a swing state that he needs so that means, he is looking at a florida or ohio,
7:37 am
or nevada, or a new mexico, states like that, where the president also knows that they have to look at to try to win as well. you have to look at that maybe an independent voter maybe a female, you know, on the ticket, but rick santorum represents the base of the republican party or social conservatives i don't see that that is going to -- that will happen because eventually the social conservatives will come back certainly i think he will pick a conservative but i don't know that it would be rick santorum but he will have a role >> i agree i think he will do some campaigning but won't be on the ticket he is looking at 2016, he is on the radar screen now, he avoided a loss in his home state of pennsylvania, pulling out you know he increased his clout, if romney gets beaten, which i think h happen in november, conservatives will say i told you so we should have nominated
7:38 am
rick perry or we should have nominated rick santorum, because every other candidate in the race, has led mitt romney in the polls, i think the real question, the vice presidential pick, is you know, do you throw the long ball do you try to figure out how to get a woman on this ticket because you are getting creamed by obama with woman or do you go to a more safe choice my sense is romney is safe kind of guy i think rod portman is a very likely choice he is on the economy with him, solid, he is not a bomb thrower, not the most exciting candidate. >> and that is why peter i don't think it will be a portman he is a boring white guy, he is certainly qualified, i mean he is qualified. >> on the record to say jim said that not me and not peter. >> i mean, that doesn't mean he is not qualified, senator and h

8:16 am
her travelling until the baby was born and they also wanted her to wait for the titanic they thought it was the only ship safe enough for her to travel on. >> so she did board the ship sailed on titanic with the little boy whose name was frank phil lip how old was the boy then? >> 7 months. >> 7 months old. okay so we all know what happened obviously titanic struck an iceberg, can you tell me what happened once the titanic struck the iceberg? what happened to leah. >> well, she was travelling in third class because she was a nursing mother they wouldn't allow her out of third class, so she was locked behind the gates when the ship struck the iceberg, she was a very small woman, under 5 feet tall and she was quite pretty and had this small baby and they had a blanket around them, some
8:17 am
passengers picked her up, with the baby in her arms and passed her hand over hand over the gate and into the arms of crew members to the lifeboat deck when she got up to the lifeboat deck mrs. aster just stepped out of the lifeboat because she chose to die with her husband, rather than be rescued when he couldn't be rescued as she stepped out she took off her white silk scarf, it was about 6 feet long, she said your baby looks cold she wrapped the baby in the scarf in all the excitement someone grabbed the child and threw it over board mrs. axe fainted at that time and was put into the lifeboat unconscious when she woke up she was drifting in the ocean, thinking her baby was gone. >> dr. bar i will let you -- i want to say that we had some tape because there was actually a recording of your great grandmother talking about this, that aired on ripley's believe
8:18 am
it or not we are trying to get that sound tell me what happened then, leah is in one lifeboat philly as it turns out survived obviously tell me about that. >> right. they both thank god ended up in different lifeboats and in the wee hours of the morning they were rescued by the car path yay -- carpathia all the people who made it into the lifeboats were taken up on deck my great grandmother was only 17 years old at this time it should be emphasized which to me is quite remarkable because i have children in their 20s and i am thinking to myself i am not sure how that would have gone but any way, so she was of course, -- well, everyone was quite traumatized emotionally there was a great deal of sadness and loss and there were people who lost everything,
8:19 am
their children their spouses, multiple generations perished and there she was walking on the deck of the carpathia and was actually nursing as my dad indicated and so she was feeling uncomfortable and she heard a baby cry and she looked around, to find where the baby was. >> dr. bar. >> yes >> may i interrupt you just there just for a moment because we do have the sound now we want to hear the voice of your own great grandmother as she is telling a reporter about this point in the story let's take a listen. >> sure. >> i was put into a lifeboat and we drifted around in the open sea for 7 hours and i sat on the bench i suddenly heard a baby cry i looked up, near me was a woman with an infant in her arms, as i looked, the baby reached its arms out to me
8:20 am
>> was this your baby? >> yes, it was. >> that was a miracle. >> the woman told me that she ... >> so this -- there was another woman in another lifeboat the baby literally has dropped into her arms and she sees this as a prayer being answered because she at that point thought she lost some other family members on the titanic. all right, so in the time after that, there was some question as to you know this woman claimed that the baby was hers, your great grandmother said no, it is my baby how did they settle that. >> well, so gain, you have to go back to the fact she was 17 years old she had quite a presence she tried to talk to the woman but i think she was italian and her english was broken so there was a little communication gap there, so she went to the captain of the
8:21 am
ship, of the carpathia and explained this was her baby and you know of course, i mean there was so much going on, that i am amazed how the whole thing came out but basically the captain asked her how she could prove this was her baby and she said because this woman is catholic i am jewish and this baby has been circumcised so they basically proceeded to take the diaper off and show that the baby had been circumcised and the captain made the decision that it was indeed her child. and that is basically what happened. >> it is an amazing story, there are so many more details i know it has been documented overtime i hate to end on a little bit of a downer of a note there are artifacts your family held on to for years including the scar. philly had been -- scarf philly
8:22 am
had been wrapped in i understand it is no longer in your family. >> we donated it to the mariners museum >> it ultimately went to phillip's grandchildren, the infant we felt it belonged to his family and then we gave it to him his children. he was gone by then. >> right. okay. >> well, we appreciate you all sharing the story with us i am sure you will talk about this a lot and think about your relatives, during this 100th anniversary week we thank you for spending time with us this morning. >> thank you. >> mr. gilbert binder and dr. lisa bar. >> amazing. >> yes. >> fascinating. >> what i should point out because i mentioned the artifacts are part of the family it is a sore point they did give them to the grandchildren who then sold them on ebay so they are not happy about that. >> well, he handled that with a

8:35 am
your house to pressurize and your roof to lift off. all these things can save you money. preventative maintenance, areas of the country where there are likely to be storms, installing a generator or storm shutters can save you money. >> okay what other kinds of insurance discounts are there for home projects steve? >> reporter: a lot of folks get the idea in order to get a big discount they have to do some sort of huge and monomental project that is not the case you want a smoke alarm in your house have fire extinguishers handy even something as small as having a dead bolt and a home security system can all earn you discounts on your homeowners insurance if you are interested in those larger projects there is a lot of folks here in north texas faced with after last week's tornado miss are finding things that will help them in the long run can help them to a discount like for example installing
8:36 am
impact resistant roofing on their homes to fight off hail damage, that can save you 30%. >> i like that. all right, you suggest maybe some roofing what about earn side the house. >> -- what about inside the house. >> when it comes to inside the home we talk about changing batteries twice a year in your smoke alarms this is the time of year it is important to make sure your home is running efficiently this is one of the biggest money wasters for folks. check the air vents change out your air filters a small can of compressed air can help you get the pipes flowing in your house to make sure all that venting can wake back up after the winter season do things like get your ac serviced do that now as opposed to when you absolutely need it and for folks who need a little assistance maybe folk that is have low income issues, there
