cool it down, had to put changes into your weekend forecast, possibility of a few showers saturday and sunday, more cloud cover not going to rain all weekend not a wash out like last sunday at least the possibility of a couple showers this weekend. that is a look at your weather let's do traffic and weather lauren. looks like today is the day for outdoor activities tuck. >> right now on 395, we do have a wreck travelling northbound virginia let's take a live look at traffic land leaving the belt way heavy and slow at this point up past edsel road seminary off to the side, remaining activity delays remain once you get past seminary road things look good past the 14th street bridge then heavy on to the freeway, travelling the belt way outer loop slows van dooren past eisenhower avenue past telegraph road also want to talk about 66th, as you travel toward 123 we do have the wreck off to the right shoulder, the latest from route 50, fair oaks also going to find slow traffic, 66, through manassas because of an

earlier accident we had near business 234, that is gone but still dealing with slow traffic in the area new york avenue, no issues to report for you dc 295, northbound pennsylvania avenue, right lane blocked because of a disabled bus that is a check of your fox 5 on time traffic allison over to you. even though he is still 400 delegates short mitt romney has all but clenched the republican nomination, how long will newt gingrich stay in the race and his former candidate, rick santorum is he getting ready to endorse romney. we turn to two experts joining us, peter feen good morning, good to see you, and john brender, good morning good to see you. >> i like the look a little casual. >> resting a little bit after doing, about a year and a half -- >> being on the road. >> let's start with that you were with, are with the rick
7:36 am
santorum campaign, what is the latest word, is that perhaps he will meet with some of romneys people today, in reparation for an endorsement. >> no, there is -- preparation for an endorsement. >> no, there is -- he is meeting with romney may 4th. the governor asked they do talk about a potential endorsement and maybe how rick santorum can help campaign in the fall and those type of things senator, very interesting talking about that and some other things. he wants to make sure he gets assurances governor romney said he wants to repeal obama care governor santorum agrees but wants to make sure we don't replace it with another mandate. the two of them you see each other on the campaign trail and debates but don't get time to get to know each other that is what this meeting is about. >> mitt romney, peter just coming off another five wins, east coast wins, anything interesting about the states other than pennsylvania, rick santorum's state. anything interesting about these wins in new york, connecticut. >> i don't think so.
7:37 am
the turn out, is, down, you see, stories about the wins now, buried inside, not the lead story in the paper. and of course, what you see, is you see romney, really focussing on obama now and using that speech last night, which i don't think was greatly watched probably, but never the less to try to go after obama and make his case. so i think, right now, what you are seeing is this great expansion of the romney campaign, into the key states, they are going to need in november, and the battles joined i will make one quick point on this, that is, this is going to be a lot of advertising a lot of activity a lot of money spent early this isn't wait until the conventions post labor day this is now. >> this is now. >> do we also start now to look at vice presidential candidates? >> well, i think they will go through the vetting process. it is a long process. and i think the first thing in
7:38 am
picking a vice president you say, pick someone who is not going to do any harm to your campaign. the second thing you try to do is find some body who maybe can just do one thing to help you deliver a state deliver a voting block those type of things but you want to make sure you have this complete vetting process, so you are not finding things out on that campaign trail >> do you like anyone? is it hard to put on different hat now and look at mitt romney as the presumptive nominee. >> yeah, no, not really i think that you know, there are a lot of good candidates they are probably looking at some place in the area, 6, 7 candidates i hear more and more people are saying rob foreman as a potential pick for the reason ohio is a cool state, number two as dick cheney said this week pick some body who could immediately become president if they could, rob portman fits that but there are a lot of other candidates who are good and it is a long process i don't thing they want to tip
7:39 am
their hand too soon. >> is that interesting coming from dick cheney who said he never wanted to be president? i am asking you >> i could never figure out what dick cheney wanted to do he ran the process for bush and then, bush ended up choosing him, you know, i think the most important point is the win john makes which is look you don't want a sarah palin problem you don't want to pick some body and discover this is going to be a very very difficult couple of months. >> what would you think mitt romney would need. >> i think you know there is a lot of talk about rubio, because hispanic vote, florida, i don't think he is tested i don't think he is ready and i don't think he could step in the oval office. with the same criticism as sarah palin. rob portman is someone who could do that, santorum but that is not going to work, because of the primary and i think john would probably acknowledge that is not likely at all, surprise i didn't think
7:40 am
john kennedy would pick linden johnson either but the most important thing, is that you pick some body, who you are similar pat cowith, who you know you can work with, and who believes in the same kinds of things you believe in. the portman pick is a, safe and b, probably smart. it is in a way like clinton picking gore. they seem sort of similar, and yet, that gave a consistency of message. >> what do you -- what does mitt romney need to work on a couple weeks ago we were talking about that woman block that vote, now we also see the hispanic vote, who does he need to sort of woo to take this thing home. >> i think you have to be careful everybody starts to segment the population, i still don't understand why does everybody say the democrats have a male gender problem, it is always republicans have a female. >> we can say that. >> but you know it is true.
7:41 am
end of the day, regardless what block you are from you pretty much care about the same things what i thought romney did was smart last night he started to make this a referendum on obama, obama will try hard to say look i have accomplished somethings but was given a bad hand by bush romney is out of touch you don't want him i thought romney did a pretty good job saying wait a minute this is about accomplishment this guy has failed so the next few weeks, are really going to be both campaigns fighting to make this what this race is ultimately going to be about in november. >> democrats have to woo the male voter? >> they always do. yeah. i mean i think john is right, you have to have a consistent message on this the president's message will be hey i got this car out of the ditch moving down the road we don't need to go back to the same policies that got us here in the first place the only answer republicans seem to have are
7:42 am
massive tax cuts for wealth yeah americans that -- wealthy american conditions that will not get us where we need to go. >> i will make one quick comment i know we are running out of time. >> we are out of time >> john ran an incredible -- >> let him talk. >> but you know he is on that trail this is a tough one to win those races get out, spent so massively it was an amazing campaign for santorum. >> maybe we can have you back and you can talk about what makes a successful campaign. >> next week. >> we will be right back thank you guys ♪
