the federal courthouse. mel. good morning allison, well, the sentencing hearing is supposed to get under way in a half hour thomas agreed in january to plead guilty to one count of theft, concerning programs, receiving federal funds and one count of filing a false tax return, he did arrive at the federal courthouse a short time ago he walked into the building, without a lot of fanfare. the excouncilman faced charges that could carry a sentence up to 13 years prosecutors made a plea bargain that reduced it to four years, he set up his scheme to steal federal money, immediately upon taking office as ward 5 councilman, february 2007 and continue that had scheme for years, city youth money was funneled to his personal accounts in all, $353,000 was spent on luxury

suvs, lavish vacations, clothing, restaurants his attorneys are pressing for just an 18 month sentence for their clients guilty plea at the time of the plea agreement, the u.s. attorney called his actions outrageous conduct that can only be described as flag rant abuse of the public trust. >> rather than facing another four year term on the dc council he will now face the prospect of serving 3 to 4 years in prison. >> he has a wonderful wife, mom, wonderful family and i extend my heart to them and hope they will be able to get through this. >> now yesterday, thomas' attorneys accused federal prosecutors of stretching the facts and saying they are ignoring harry thomas yuan your's country -- junior's contributions to the community about 100 people sent letters to the judge attesting to harry thomas' standing in the community, asking for leniency, attorneys for thomas would like to see just an 18 month

planting, and fruits and vegetables. >> yes, our little summer vegetable primer, and also, i have to give a shout out t gloria, and her friends they will be doing some planting this week in northeast they were getting somethings together when i was at the garden center i told them i would say hi to them this morning they are loyal views, and they love you. >> wonderful. thank you for watching. now you have some good tips. >> here is what you want to do with your summer vegetables the most important thing is the soil, i've got shredded hard wood mulch, compost and i've got potting mix. this mix make sure you have something that says potting mix not soil this is an organic fertilizer what you want to do is start with one part of each if you are potting up your vegetables into pots mix this together, and you get a really good blend like that, sprinkle it with a little of the organic fertilizer or use prepared

they don't understand why most of the beans after the first crop kind of die out, go on to any reputable garden website and look up an inknock lent what it is, is a micro fine powder, it is bacteria, and it actually gets those bean seeds inoculated and the beans are able to take in nitrogen naturally, through their leaves, throughout the whole summer, and they will give you a yield all the way to fall. >> so i didn't know you had to do that >> you don't have to, but if you don't do it, the only good harvest of beans will be the first. >> now tomatos people in washington love toe natos. >> fresh tomato -- tomatos. >> fresh tomatos fantastic. >> one misnomer is that you have to plant tomatos at night to get a good harvest.
