designer wine. we have dramatic scenes to show you. these are from northwest dc last night as a line of rain storms moved through, very heavy rain, parts of rhode island avenue were under about two feet of water at one points. the water picked up some cars that were parked on the streets. wow! >> that is dramatic video. for some of us last night, tucker barnes is joining us with what is ahead today. >> quieter weather after last night, two to three inches of rain in a short period of time is what caused the problems. but let's get to local weather for your day, and looking quieter. temperatures still on the warm side, but we're not dealing with any extreme heat, and i don't think we'll see much in the way of rain showers, wind from the north and east at 5, and winds off the ocean that we think will keep things dry, stabilizing the atmosphere for us. there's your radar, generally quiet.

there are sprinkles out there. but the trends will be keeping things dry. i think even later this afternoon, just partly sunny conditions. could there be a rain shower? yes, but that will be well to the west as you get into the shenandoah mountains. you have the best chance for a shower. partly sunny skies, highs near 90, winds will be shifting from the south and south and east at 5 miles an hour. more details on the weekend forecast in a couple of minutes. big story, corruption allegations being waged against vince gray's 2010 campaign. >> a former aide admits to funneling hundreds of thousands of dollars of concealed money to help him get elected. melanie is here with the latest. melanie? >> reporter: with the plea yesterday, this web is starting to unravel. conspiracy, falsified donations cover-ups, plans to flee the

country, part of an off the books campaign. 75-year-old jeannie harris worked as an aide to gray's 2010 campaign. the plea agreement says an unnamed co-conspirator funneled $653,000 through her public relations firm that she then spent on campaign materials, consultants supplies and other expenses. she admitted to shredding documents, and also that her co-conspirator offered to pay for her to leave the country for five years to avoid the investigation. she also pleaded guilty to two counts of conspiracy for concealing the source of other donations about $44,000, to gray's 2010 campaign, and also federal campaigns in 2008. harris is the third person to work on the campaign to plead guilty to some kind of illegal payments. gray has refused to address it so far. >> $653,000, that's the minimum from recorded mexico that were not recorded. that is there was a campaign

that spent $643,000, they never reported the contributions of that magnitude. how could the mayor not know? and the u.s. attorney all but said there was coordination, so his denial of cull pa picture seems top. >> two people familiar with the investigation identified businessman jeffrey thompson as a source of the funds. his managed care company has the city's single largest contract worth $322 million a year, in course, harris says her -- court, harris said her co-conspirator did not want to know about thomas. harris and her co-conspirator have been making straw donations together since 2001. >> thanks, mel. in capitol hill, republicans in the house are set to vote, hold a vote on repealing the president's healthcare law. as doug luzader explains, it is

african-american voter at the naacp's annual meeting. president obama is not addressing the group, he is sending vice president biden to speak tomorrow. a house committee is to vote honor a bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. that's based on claims that fetuses can feel pain at the 20 week mark. the national right to life group is pushing the bill. dc leaders oppose the bill, calling it anne trust on the strict's self rule -- calling it an intrusion on the districts self rule. opponents of gay marriage have been fighting against this matter since governor owe mall signed it into law earlier. authorities told him yesterday they had succeeded in getting the number of signatures needed on their petition to put the issue on the ballot. some of the other storyies

making headlines. >> 48-year-old sarah greenhalgh's body was found in her home burning, her burning home, mob morning. investigators say it is a homicide case. greenhalgh worked at a freelance reporter for years, in addition to her job at the winchester star, writing about horse racing and county government issues. police, however, do not believe her work was connected to her death. in maryland, prince george county police are looking for a man who shot a cab driver in landover hills. this happened in 3800 block of cooper lane yesterday afternoon. the cab driver picked up the gunman at the new carrollton metro station. the man asked for a ride to the cooper lane elementary school. when they got there, the man pulled out a gun and tried to rob the driver. police say the driver's injuries are not serious, are serious, but not life threatening. underground power lines may be coming to the district. council member jack evans

introduced legislation to form a group to find out how to fund it. the project is expected to cost about $5 million. pepco customers in montgomery and prince george county may have to wait a bit longer to learn if their bills will increase. following last week's devastating storm, the power company is requesting a delay in issuing the final decision. pepco originally requested a 4% rate hike for its maryland customers. the decision was expected this week, but could be pushed back an extra 7 days. when the storm that knocked out power hit our region a couple weeks ago, people in northern virginia who not call the 911 for emergency for three days. now, the fairfax county chairman wants answers. she is calling for a task force to call out for verizon facility did not work. later this morning, she's asking the metropolitan washington council of governments to create that task force. fox 5 is monitoring metro,

and a new safety report that is raising eyebrows. the report on metrobus fatigue s were 12 hours or more during july of last year. of those drivers, they worked 20 or more hours without 8 hours off 50 times. in some cases, drivers worked more than 80 hours a week. the rules allow a maximum of 16 hours a day for drivers. >> bus drivers should have more time to rest if you're driving, you need to have time to, you know, relax and you pay better attention. >> it's not really safe, but we don't know if he's working 20 hours, the guy who is driving. >> metrobuss average 6 accidents a day. metro will present the report to the safety and security committee today. metro awe near -- metro's nw

how to balance between being a friend and being a daughter, as well as my dad. it's like there's boundaries i i cannot cross, i know she's my mom, but as parents, you have to learn your child, as a friend, and not just a daughter or son. and really, to teach them to go home, you want to, okay, what can i do to be there this? how can i be their friend? what do i need to say? let me learn things about them, to really learn how to be around them and be in their environment, and get down to their level. she's like my best friend. i don't have anybody else but her, but really, just to really teach them inolith everything out. -- and live everything out. they could talk all about what they want to say, but they are not living it, if you're not living it, it's not going to mean anything.

turning into the battle of sexes in one germantown. the mayor says he thinks men want to be challenging more than women, so he designated 12 easily accessed, there is that word again! access parking spaces in the garage for women, while the two spots for men are much more difficult to get into. the mayor said he pulled a stunt to get people talking. it worked. both men and women are now driving to the town to put their driving skills to the test in

now. 77 in washington, temperatures are gradually warming up, it's going to be warm, humid, you know, this afternoon, it's going to turn to one of those nice summer afternoons with highs in the upper 80s to around 90. should be driver than around here yesterday. 72 in manassas, most of the mountains were back in the 60s, so a nice start to the day. 77 in leonard town, let's go across the pay, salsbury, 83. all right, looking at hour first loop radar, look how quiet it is, quieter than yesterday. yesterday we had lots of storms and showers. not the case today. the frontal system we were talking about yelled in southern virginia, was pushed into the carolinas. they need the rain there. and they're going to get it later. this front will hang out down here for a couple days, and eventually start to work back towards us as a warm front, so the bottom line, partly sunny,

judges next season on "american idol." we don't know if jennifer lopez is coming back, we don't know if randy jackson is coming back can if steven is going to be there. everything is just up in the air. it was like who would you want? he threw out charlie sheen, jerry lewis, and i think he may have done it as a jock, and charlie sheen said yeah, i'll do it. there's just a couple conditions. number one, the management on your current show has to sign off. number two, paycheck has to be right, and part of paycheck, they have to match 20% of his paycheck and give it to charity every month. so i'm thinking "american idol" is not going to want to go through and jump through these hoops to get charlie sheen because, in reality, who really want to watch charlie sheen on "american idol"? i think everybody likes is craziness, and stuff about him, but it might be much watching him twice a week on a live show.
