motive. but the fbi says it does not appear to be terrorism related. panicked movie goers reported seeing people running for exits and being shot. >> it was, like, complete chaos. like, nothing was under control at this point. i mean, at that point it seemed like the police were just trying to like get in to figure out what's going on. there were people just laying around, not being helped by, you know, any type of ambulance or any police officers. just people just laying around, just bleeding. and i don't know, it was crazy. i don't even know how to describe it. >> chaotic scene to be sure. not all the wounded were hit by gunshots. some of the victims are being treated for shrapnel wounds and chemical exposure. some of the bullets pierced the wall, going to the next theater, and those people had

hospital. this is off of 225, interstate 225, which is about 10 minutes north of where the movie theater complex is. at this hospital about 20 people who have been brought in for treatment. we understand as well one of the youngest involved in this is perhaps a 3-month-old child. it's been a tragedy and a terrible situation, as it goes without saying. we now are at 17th and peoria, which is just about 10 minutes from the theater. they think his apartment might be booby trapped. they have had fbi agents working with the fire department on a ladder truck. they have broke out the back windows of the apartment. the bomb experts have put cameras inside the apartment to look around and make sure the door, the front door of the
9:07 am
apartment was not booby trapped and there were no more explosive devices inside of that unit. they are methodical in their search. they have swat team members from denver, denver county, adams county, jefferson county, aurora police, and denver police all here on the scene along with fbi, atf agents. they are making sure this apartment was not booby trapped, as i mentioned and did not have more explosive devices in it. apparently the suspect has made assertions that in fact he did have more bomb making materials in his apartment. so they are being very cautious and they are checking very methodically before they send the agents in. they are making sure all the residents are safe. they have evacuated them about
9:08 am
the last two hours and two buildings that are just adjacent, though the south of the suspect's residence, they have evacuated those buildings as well. a lot of the people ironically are sitting out in front of their apartments in lawn chairs, watching the activity, like it's a friday morning movie. a tragic movie as it were. >> jon, this is tony, i want to make sure i'm understanding you correctly. sounded like you said, the police have been inside the apartment, and there is no -- is that right? >> reporter: no. the fbi agents were using cameras. first they used what looked like some sort of infrared or night vision kind of camera that they peered inside with after breaking out the window. then they used a camera that was on a big hook. it looked like they were just moving it around inside to make sure they could see what was inside the apartment before
9:09 am
actually giving the all clear for agents to go in from the front side. we initially thought they would be making their entrance into the apartment through the window, which is a second floor window, off the cherry picker from the fire department, but they retreated down off of there and now the action has shifted to the front of the building. right now it's a hold situation before they send the agents in. they're trying to make sure in fact there are no booby traps inside. one comment from one of the police officers that the suspect had made some statements relating to the fact that his apartment might be booby trapped. so that is why they are being to methodical. >> using abundance of caution, understandably. you said people are outside. we now know the name of the

alleged shooter. he is 24-year-old james holmes. doesn't look like a very big apartment. are you hearing anything there about who this person might be? >> reporter: well, the only thing that i've heard is that -- initially when he was arrested, the vehicle he was arrested next to had tennessee license plates on it. but he had a colorado driver's license. we're not sure if the car might have been stolen or the license plate stolen or what. they are trying to piece all of that together. like i said, as i mentioned, there are people sitting out front of the three or four apartments that have been evacuated for the last two hours or so, kind of just sitting and kind of watching the proceedings going on. that while many workers who work at the hospital complex are making their way into work, you know, as if it was a normal friday morning. but of course, we now know it is anything but normal here in
