to know the benefits and/or purpose of seedless grapes. i find it interesting that grapes are being manufactured without the seeds, yet they say grape seeds have many nutritional benefits. for what reason do they spend time and money on manufacturing seedless grapes? wow, well, this is a very thoughtful question. it comes from jasmine jackson, and i thank you for writing in. the question is a little different for ask allison and i love it for that reason. i've actually thought about this. there is a lot of thought and theory that goes into our food and whether it's been genetically engineered and how safe all of that is. i'm happy to answer this question for you. the answer itself is a pretty easy one. convenience, of course. we all love just chewing on grapes, but for many it was a pain to deal with the messy seeds, where do you spit them out? why do that, why not have a baggy filled with grapes wherever you go and not have to
9:17 am
worry about the mess, right? manufactures met the demand and voila, seedless grapes were cultivated. but you' right, grape seeds have many benefits and have been credited for helping with just everything way back from the days of ancient egypt to wrinkles, cancer, from wrinkles to cancer and everything in between, they have said to help. recently associated with helping with high blood pressure and cholesterol. the arguments for the seeds staying in comes from hard core health enthusiasts. they say the grapes have been biological tampered with. you see this a lot in watermelon, now. the seedless, or you get the white seed, as opposed to the rich dark seed.
9:18 am
i've noticed it too, in bananas. used to have that dark pit at the bottom, but it's been taken out. this can cause the fruit to lose its nutritional power. some say this tampered fruit is viewed by our body as foreign and may cause inflammation and set up a more acidic environment in the body making it vulnerable to disease like cancer, of course. it's a little deeper into some of the theories out there. but that's what a lot of people will say, eat that healthy whole food nature provided for us. perhaps the best middle of the road advice, reduce your intakes of seedless grapes and watermelon. seek out that high quality organic fruit.
9:19 am
the supermarket guru online, i found advice from him, he said pick the certified organic grapes with seeds and he says crunch those seeds right up. or you can buy a bottle of grape ed extract. it's an interesting question. at the end of the day, it is for convenience. it's why seedless grapes were born. we're seeing it a lot with the watermelon. if you have a question you'd like answered, myfoxdc.com, click on the morning tab for a link to ask allison. this is homage to my mother, we spent our shopping days at places like yes market. there was another one, sunshine, something with sunshine in it. glut is still there, and it's good old healthy food. not always pretty. >> that's the other thing. >> not always pretty. >> we americans, we want pretty
