period of light snow and do it again later this afternoon with another little clipper system approaching from the north and west. and that will bring snow out to the west. we have school closing out there. reagan national 30 degrees. temperatures have been cold here. 27 out at dulles. bwi 27 degrees. highs today in the mid 30s within creasing clouds. not so much right now. sunshine and a nice start to the day. you can see the clouds starting to work in from the west. we should turn mostly cloudy by afternoon as the clipper system approaches. the snow showers associated with it out to the west. the timing on the next round of snow showers will be 7 or 8:00 tonight out to the west. and moving through the immediate washington area. we're looking at the possibility of light accumulations. maybe enough to cover the ground in a few spots north and west of town with this

in the har-bowl, john versus jim. joe flacco was better than colin kaepernick on this night. three first half touchdown passes in route to being the game's most valuable player. zero picks in the entire playoffs. that is pretty darn good. the lights went out and that seemed to ener jiz the 49ers. 35 minute delay. niners came all the way back and chance to win it. they stood tall on a 4th and goal and held and got the colin kaepernick pass. ravens win 34-31. and ray lewis talked about getting that second superbowl championship. >> it's a testament of what we've been through and how much trust we have all year with each other. i'm telling you, man, that was one of the most amazing i've been a part of.

making his five year old hostage as comfort kabl as possible in an under ground bunker. 65-year-old jim lee dykes has allowed negotiators to send medicine to the boy who has been identified as ethan. gunned down a school bus driver and abducted the 5 year old boy. he has been holding him ever since. investigators say the boy is in good condition. the bus driver who died trying to protect the students on board was laid to rest on sunday. at least 500 people attended his funeral. >> another big story we're following. an american hero is dead. chris kyle, the author hft best selling autobiography was shot and killed on saturday. >> a fellow veteran is in custody facing two charges of murder. melanie alnwick is live with the latest. >> good morning.

chris kyle earned a reputation as the military's most lethal sniper. two silver stars and five bronze stars with valor. he died doing what he loved. stunned the military community. his autobiography detailed 150 plus kills from 1999 to 2009. the bodies of kyle and his friend were found at a gun range. the accused shooter is believed to be a troubled former soldier kyle was trying to help. 25-year-old eddie ray ralph shot the men in the back around 3:30 in the afternoon fleeing in a pick-up truck. >> well, i don't think anybody knows why. they all went out there together in the same vehicle. it's my understanding the suspect may have been

suffering from some type of mental illness from being in the military himself. he was a marine for four years and may have been suffering from some complications from that. i'm not sure. >> chris kyle left the navy in 2009. he dealt with his own post war struggles and established a charity to help other vets. ruth's mother may have been the one to reach out of the. two counts of capitol murder. chris kyle and chad littlefield leave behind young families. >> horrible story. >> thank you. and we have another horrific story. a bus crash in southern california leaves 8 people dead and more than 35 hurt. california highway police say a crowded mexican tour bus collided with two other cars and flipped over while coming down the mountains east of los angeles. the driver reported having brake problems right before rear ending a car

and the game was good. >> what did you think about the steve ee wonder? i didn't know who it was at first. he didn't look like himself. >> it was okay. didn't knock me out . >> the advertising is supposed to be fun. i like the way the commercials look. but they weren't fun. bud light may have missed a little bit. >> let's talk about some of the ones you thought were winners. budwieser the clydesdales. >> crying. loved it. >> with the baby horse and it grows up. >> everything worked in that commercial. and i wanted to be cynical about it. goose bumps; right? shows you the power of the clydesdales. this spot was shot by jake scott. it was very nicely done.

>> how long was this commercial? seems like it was 90 seconds to me. >> i don't know. i think it was a minute. >> having living in st. louis and knowing the rich legacy. but when that horse looked at him. okay. >> i'm glad they didn't do something jokey at the end like the horse knocks him down. it was touching. i want to ask you, i thought the fact that there were so many ads that were funny. the ones that weren't funny, helped them shine more even. >> there were a lot of weird awkward commercials for me. and funny is hard. and so the ones that were genuinely funny, they did stand out more. >> let's talk about the coca cola one. >> at the end i'm like what is going on? oh, we were supposed to vote. did it work? >> for me, pepsi and coke are

big at the superbowl and they didn't show up this year. i didn't love this commercial. big production but wasn't much of an idea there. wasn't a good day for the soda manufacturers. >> i didn't care about this one. one of my favorites i don't think a company i've seen advertised before tyde with the whole joe montana stain. >> i loved that commercial. it was a good idea for a product. it was relevant to the product and well done. and well shot. it was germane to the game. >> and when the wife is a raven's fan and not just somebody washing the laundry. >> they really got the ending right on that one. >> you know what's interesting is for tide for the ending to be go ravens to take a stance.

also maybe i'm saying too much. i thought this was a great parody of what our culture has become. we see this happen where a piece of toast has an image. >> and somebody has a media star. >> for me, that's what made it a great idea. it did pull from our culture. >> she's got her jersey on right there. very cute. we were talking about the serious ones. paul harvey voicing over the farmer's ad. it was great. >> i was sitting there watching and you see the super paul harvey. had a feeling it was going to be something different. and indeed it was. hearing him as a voice over was powerful. this was the most gripping of the day. >> and at the end to hear your son wants to do what the dad did. a piece of americana right

the vole beings wagon commercial. where the guy is dog the jamaican accent. what was your take on that? >> i think some advertisers benefited from having a spot released early. and volkwagon is a good example to it. wouldn't have paid enough attention to it. i wonder whether some of these brands didn't attend to have controversy associated. it did amplify the buzz prior to the game. >> this one isn't on our list but can we talk about the go daddy walter ad. >> took 45 takes to get that ad. >> he said let me do it again. >> very good day. >> i thought it was compelling because it was one of these oh, no, no. and then moved in and you saw the close of the kiss. to that end i liked it. to be honest, i'm not a big fan of the go daddy. the sexy lady.

i'm tired of it . so to do that twist and in the end, seemed like she likes it. i liked it. >> she liked it lchlt and most people i talked to did not like it. >> i didn't particularly care for it. but it worked for the go daddy brand. i was following on twitter and what struck me is everybody had a different commercial they liked. a lot of the ladies liked the calvin klein commercial. >> i did not like that. i did not enjoy that. who looks like that? he looks kind of scary to me. he's all dark looking. i have never seen a man look like that. to me, it was not affective. >> i thought so many of these ads are you have the women and that. here's one for the ladies and gay men. now they are throwing them a bone. >> didn't really love it. i'm not the typical . i liked walter and the anheuser busch commercial.

dc. sarah is back with us with the details now. >> they knew a lot of eyes would be watching ads during the superbowl. mayors against illegal guns. according to the group, 82% of gun owners including 74% of nra members support requiring background checks for anyone purchasing a gun. the 30 second television ad features a clip of wayne la pierre testifying back in 1999. >> we think it's reasonable to provide mandatory instant criminal background checks for every sale at every gun show. no loopholes anywhere for anyone. >> on fox news sunday, la pierre was quicked to point out he was referencing gun shows. background checks for all gun owners would only lead to a gun registry.

often used as working dogs, german shepards are known to be courageous, obedience and eager to learn. for more than 10 years a rescue has been dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and adoption. the group has held more than 3,000 dogs. joining us this morning for our pet project is darry and she brought two dogs and for the rescue. good morning to both of you. >> we've got like basically still a puppy. and an older lady with us.

>> senior male. >> the name cutie threw me. >> hi, good morning. >> this is baily. >> first of all, let's talk about the rescue and the good work you do. >> we're a 501 c. we get in, we adopt maybe 300 dogs a year. we have about 65 dogs in foster program right about now. we get pure breads. we get puppies. we get mixed german shepard mixes as well. we pick them up from shelters, strays. all of the above. >> we talked about how wonderful the breed is and how courageous and loyal they are. what are some of the myths or misconceptions you'd like to get out there so that somebody can look and say you know what maybe i can have a german in my home? >> a little intimidating looking. >> they are cop dogs, police dogs. so a lot of people view

them as being aggressive. and yes, all dogs can be aggressive. but we adopt out pets. we don't -- we get some that might be retired but they are very well trained. >> that's a dog i want. what we hear most of all is how smart the breed is. >> would you agree with that? >> certainly. we carry all sorts of age ranges. people who are looking for trained dogs. a lot of our senior dogs are already really well trained. house broken. don't have to deal with the high energy level. like this puppy here. if you want kind of a more laid back companion dog, going with a senior dog is a great choice. >> already set in his ways. >> you don't have to sell me there. let's first talk about tiser. >> he's just over 10.

he's been in the rescue probably about a year now with a foster. had medical things we got taken care of. he was an owner surrender back to us. he was originally adopted when he was 2. but came back. family just couldn't take care of him any more. >> they are pretty big dogs too. >> handful. they can be. and he's in the foster program now just waiting to get adopted. very good with kids. laid back. energy level is good . >> this little girl is baily. she's hiding behind the hair. >> you are cute. >> she originally came from a breeder. she's a pure bread and the person who got her gave her up. so she's an owner surrender as well. we took her in. and she's good with kids as well. good with other dogs as you can see. she's got a nice energy
