nothing happening right at this moment. but they got a light coating of snow overnight. tucker barnes has been monitoring this storm for the past few days now. >> he is live outside our studios in northwest with more on what we can expect here in the d.c. area. good morning, tucker. >> reporter: good morning, allison and tony. talk local weather first. overnight a wintry mix from washington and points west. reports this morning up to 3 inches of slushy accumulation out to the west. right now i can tell you, it's cold here in northwest washington. it's cold. bring your jacket. lots of layers. not a lot falling here. light drizzle and rain. i think the heavy rain is over with. though the effects from the storm, we're not done with that yet in the washington area. satellite radar, want to show you the storm. most of the activity is off to the east. you can see the rain shower activity out to the east, as we're getting rain in the calvert county, pushing to

annapolis. there you go, our big storm now shaping up here off the eastern seaboard. rain you see to the west, that energy will collide with it, and this storm will crank up and that's why we have blizzard watches and warnings all the way from new york city to boston later this afternoon and tonight. i mentioned a blizzard, blizzard warnings new york to boston, as we move to our next map you can see that those warnings will continue for the next several hours. in fact, they'll continue until early tomorrow morning as they're expecting upwards of 18 to 24 inches of snow. hard to believe we're talking about 18 to 24 inches of snow. locally a lot of clouds today. could be a few sprinkles this afternoon. little wrap around moisture this afternoon in the form of snowflakes and flurries. i'll have more details on that. the winds really will pick up later this afternoon. more details coming up in a few

minutes. tony and allison, back to you at the desk. thanks, tucker. the storm is taking aim at new england. some areas could see up to 3 feet of snow. >> the worst of the conditions is expected to hit boston. elizabeth hopkins joins us live with how millions are preparing. >> reporter: this morning boston is the city that is awaiting its burial. if you look at the street behind me, very little traffic, if at all. in fact, that is very unusual for a friday morning. it is under orders from the mayor. he says he wants people to stay off the roads and stay home today. that's why he's closed down all the city schools, all the community centers, all the libraries, and he's also told all nonessential government employees to simply stay home. he hasn't taken the step as far as going ahead and telling all businesses in the city to

close. he's strongly advising it. it's going to be hard for people to get around if they are trying to go out later today. little bit later in the afternoon the city's transit system will be shutting down. and logan airport says it is canceling flights, though they'll remain open for the remainder of the weekend. they say they want to be there for people who may be stranded. they're hoping their schedule will resume sunday. in the meantime, if you look at the state house behind me, the clouds are ominous. we're awaiting the snowflakes to start falling. when they do, we're told they won't stop for quite a while. in boston, elizabeth hopkins, fox news. the big snowstorm isn't all bad news for everyone. ski resorts and sporting good stores in the northeast are welcoming the blizzard because that means big business for them. ski resorts in maine say it's been a frustrating season because of the lack of snow and sporting good stores say a big storm could mean an increase in snowmobiles and ski sales. but unfortunately, this

objections and views to some colleagues about certain of those, water boarding, nudity, others, where i professed my objections to it, but i didn't try to stop it, because it was something being done in a different part of the agency under the authority of others. >> lawmakers will get another chance to grill brennan in a closed door classified briefing tuesday. and leon panetta testified thursday saying the pentagon did not have any forces close to libya when the u.s. consulate was attacked last september. he also said for the first time, or he said for the first time that the defense department supported arming rebels in syria. that's a direct contrast to the official position of the obama administration. funeral services will be held at arlington cemetery

today for a virginia soldier. 28-year-old sergeant aaron whitman was a graduate of the citadel. he was on his second deployment to afghanistan when he was killed last month. he was the first u.s. combat casualty of the year. he was based out of fort stewart, georgia. the first lady will attend the funeral of the murdered chicago teenager who performed at the president's inauguration. funeral services for hadiya pendleton will be held tomorrow. police say the drum majorette was talking with a group of friends last week when she was shot in the back by a stray bullet. so far, no arrests in this case. but it has brought renewed attention to chicago's high moderated and the debate over gun violence in america. in the developing massive man hundred in california, a fired police officer goes on a shooting spree, and at least three people are killed. has all the makings of a movie,

but it's real. police found the burned out pickup truck of christopher dorner near los angeles. now a manhunt is underway for the allege cop killer, christopher dorner. >> the search continues for dorner. they still have aerial searches, grounds searches and door to door searches going on. >> he essentially communicated his sense that the people with whom he had a grievance were fair game and so were their families and so were any other police officers on or off duty. >> the search has spread to nevada, where dorner has a house. police think anyone could be a target. fairfax county police say the serial foundler has struck again and they have a new

sketch. take a look. there have been 18 incidents reported in and around springfield, all have the same suspect description and the same mo. the man comes from behind and gropes women and then runs. the attacks started in september. the suspect previously described as having a beard. now he's described as having acne on his face or shaving bumps. two girl scouts join us on what the organization is calling national girl scout cookie day. they're here to explain how the conclude e business is preparing them. >> and being a scout, love it. a guide for ladies. live in studio. if you're having relationship troubles, they might be able to help. they have a new book and also where you can see them at a book signing later today.

cookies now? >> yes. >> or you're finished? you're selling them? >> yes. >> how are sales going? >> good. >> how many boxes have you sold? >> so far 75. >> that's very good. how about you? >> i have not started selling yet. i've actually been supporting one of my fellow girl scouts in buying from her to help her achieve her goal. and then i'm going to start selling my own. >> all right. very good. that's wonderful. lydia, let's talk about what this day is all about, and what it means. because most of us, we see the girl scouts knock at the door, or the parents come to work and sell the cookies. we think, all right, nice little fundraiser there. but it means a lot. >> it really is the largest entrepreneurial program for girls. 1.5million boxes were sold last year. they learn how to plan, they learn business ethics, how to talk to adults, and then the proceeds stay in our region, almost $3 million was used for

the girls to do good works in their communities. and this year we have new box, so this is a new box. it has the gold award, which is the highest earned award girl scouts can earn. they are quite attractive. as i remember, tony, you once donned a costume. i don't know if you remember that. >> we should have pulled the video. i have pictures of me in the cookie costume. >> do you remember which cookie you were? >> i believe i was -- >> i want to say you were a do si do. i know you liked the peanut inspired. >> we'll find the picture. deja, she mentioned the gold award. tell me what that is, because are you close to getting yours? >> not quite. >> not yet? working on it? >> some time by the summer, yes. >> okay. and what does that mean? what does that represent? >> the gold award is the

highest honor in girl scouts, period. it is a great honor, and it's a wonderful experience. basically what you do is you plan a service project, you can work on it, and you kind of get, you know, you really reach in the community and try to find others to help you. it's 100 hours. you can kind of do anything you want, as long as it's approved by council and as long as they say it is going to benefit. it's kind of a free -- i guess a free space. you have the opportunity to do anything that really your heart desires, as long as you can put the drive in it, put the confidence in it, and try to make sure it goes through. >> christian, is that something that you aspire to one day, to get a gold award? >> yes. >> tell me what you get out of selling the cookies. is it fun? >> yes. >> what do you learn from it? >> i learn that you have to really manage your money and that you have to always, if you really want to sell it, you have to always put your mind to

it. >> that's right. very good. do you like interacting with adults and, you know, trying to get them to buy the cookies? >> yes. >> do you have special sales technique, besides showing up and looking cute? >> i always try to act cheerful and i always try to put on my most positive face. >> very good. how long have you been a girl scout? >> five years. >> deja? >> 12. >> how much longer do we have to buy cookies? >> i know people are out there that says, no girl scout has knocked on my door yet. one of the things starting at the end of the month is our booth sales. we have 14,000 booths across the region. there is a cookie app called cookie locater. you can download it and you can put your zip code and it will send you alerts, telling you where there are girls selling cookies. starting at the end of february through the month of march, you can get your favorite cookies. >> very good. that's fantastic. we thank you for coming in. >> thank you. >> always a fun time around

here's another one of the live photos that our viewers are sending in of the snow. there is snow out to our west. here in the washington area rain. but this is snow in warrenton, virginia. we appreciate the picture. nice picture, too, sent in by rebecca landis. >> we're dodging the worse of it. >> we're on the western end of this storm. the heart of the storm will get going later this afternoon. will be too far north and east of us to do a lot of heavy snow. >> already feel for our neighbors. you have to say, okay, whew, not this time. >> i have mixed emotions. from the weather side of things, exciting. but obviously picking up four days afterwards, not fun. out to our west, a lot of our viewers getting 1, 2, some cases 3 inches of snow. parts of our area have a fresh blanket of snow. and the sleet and freezing rain

out there. most of the action now is east of washington. and in the last hour or so we've seen that wintry mix start to peter out here, as our system continues to wrap up and take shape. i'm going to show you another picture in a second off to the east, to the east of ocean city. rain showers along 95. the wintry mix we had off to the north and west in the past couple of hours has started to dissipate. much of our day will feature cloud cover. between systems here. not going to get a lot of anything during the day. maybe a couple of sprinkles, light showers. the most part, dodging the worst of this one. out to the west, frontal system and that energy will slam into our area this afternoon and tonight. we'll watch this nor'easter take shape and spread that moisture and a lot of wind. winds will be enormous later today up to new york and boston. that's where the heart of the snow will be later this

afternoon and tonight. they'll be looking at blizzard conditions, in fact blizzard warnings southern new england, boston down to new york. let's show you the advisories. once again, blizzard warnings for the counties in red here. eastern massachusetts, rhode island, and connecticut all the way to new york city, blizzard warning. winter storm warnings. and advisories into the washington area. winter weather advisory in effect until 10:00 this morning. as we showed you in the picture, parts of the area to the west picked up a couple of inches of show. could be travel issues in the counties in purple. trend later today, i don't think you'll see much of anything to the west. dealing with cloud cover as the system continues to wrap up. how much snow? 18 to 24 inches near boston. could be more than that. some suggesting 30 inches to snow. that will be a historic storm. we'll see where it ranks in about 24 hours time. closer to new york, 12 to 16

inches. closer to the washington area, anywhere between a trace to 4 inches here off to the north and north and west of washington. want to add here, if you're watching along the northern tier of maryland, northeast maryland, some of that spiral banding that takes place, the wrap around moisture later this afternoon could give you some additional snow showers late today and tonight. just be ready for that possibility. there's our storm system, and the center of low pressure will be to the east of ocean city at 3:00, and it really intensifies and wraps up extremely heavy snow, blizzard conditions. winds gusting to 65, maybe 75 miles per hour up towards boston and the cape there later tonight. the whole thing wraps up by early tomorrow morning. notice the banding coming back to the washington area later tonight, early tomorrow. might be a few snowflakes around here around the night

one is an r&b crooner and act, and a rap icon and now a reverend. they're not promoting an album now, tyrese gibson and rev run have a book on shelves now, called mannology, and it looks to teach women how to tell the good guys from the bad boys. what a pleasure to meet you. welcome back to d.c. i'm sure you've been here many times. >> yes, yes. >> there are events for you to come out and meet rev run and tyrese. first, i have to ask, i read most of the book. for the viewer, how did you two get together in the first place? and rev run, don't go all the way back to the original, what you say the dis to tyrese. >> the gist is, he sent out his words on his show, words of wisdom, kind of a celebrity thing going, and i signed up to

receive those e-mails. after following him for like a year, i had a problem with this, his analogy and this thing he sent out about cheating, infidelity, i responded, i don't agree. i didn't know he would get it. we ended up calling and being on the phone over four hours debating about this issue of being faithful and cheating and marriage and the whole thing. >> did he become your mantor at that point? >> i believed everything he was saying, because i felt his position was on the season in his life. a lot of people work their way up the jesus ladder further than others and start being mean towards people who don't believe on the level. >> right. >> he's happily married, 19 years. never touched his wife prior to marriage. i was saying, i don't really

know if i'm willing to marry and potentially end up with bad sex. >> and we're being honest. you talk about all of that in this book. you talk about the good, bad and ugly and growth and change. >> right. >> tyrese, you hit on something, because rev run, we all love the fact that you up hold marriage and six kids, beautiful family. but tyrese, you come from a different angle. still single, good dad, good boyfriend. when you bring your two viewpoints together, it should be a powerful mix, rev. >> definitely is a mix. me being his mentor, in order to hang around somebody that has a commit to god the way i do, you have a pull to come towards god. as we've been friends for a while, many people get around me, especially celebrities, and are uncomfortable. have somebody churched out, kind of back up.

supporting your music, any kind of music, there is no more validation of having a supportive woman at home. when you are in the studio, most of us work at night. when you get home and she's being aggressive about what she's asked you to do and needs you to do and start connecting, you're focused on your career and you're dropping the ball as a man, that makes me feel bad about being creative. i can't help these lyrics in these songs keep popping up and when everybody is asleep and i'm working at night. when i'm not taking out the trash in the morning, you shouldn't be cursing me out, because i'm up all night creating, trying to get us out of this situation. the support from the woman means more than anything when it comes to a recording artist. >> you talk about that in the book, support, trying to change, should you try to change, should you not? also, rev, i think you talk about this, letting your man do
