searching. a man matching dorner's description tied them up and stolen their car. dorner crashed the car and stole a pick-up truck. >> he said i don't want to hurt you. just get out and start walking up the road and take your dog with you. he was calm, i was calm. i would say i was in fear for my life but there was no panic. he told me what to do and i did it. >> dorner barricaded himself inside a cabin where he began a shoot out with authorities. two sheriff's deputies were hit. one of them died. he heard one shot inside that cabin before the cabin went up in flames. north korea is a serious threat and neighbors are beefing up militaries and mobilizing scientists to find out if

nuclear test was successful. promising more action calling the test a clear threat to international security. president obama said last night the communist country is further isolating itself with that test. >> parents are in this chamber along with more than two dozen americans whose lives have been torn apart by gun violence. they deserve a vote. gabby giffords deserve a vote. the families of newtown deserve a vote. >> one of the more emotional moments in president obama's state of the union there. calling out those affected firsthand by violence. >> in addition to gun control, the president also said he's withdrawing half the u.s. troops from afghanistan this year. a hike to $9. he's asked for that by 2015. and he wants to lower

compromise. first, you campaigned on compromise. are you going to be finding compromise with republicans? >> i think so. the overwhelming majority of the country wants compromise. members of congress understand that and want us to work together and reach across the isle and find common ground on the areas we can find common ground. doesn't mean we're going to agree on everything. we can hold the things we have in common hostage while we work through our more significant ideological difference. they don't like that approach any longer. they want us to work on the areas we can find common ground. >> mr. whitman, where's the common ground? >> i think we all look at the things before us. the sequester. everybody agrees this can't happen. it's tremendously impact full upon our military. that has to get done. we look at the debt and the deficit. those things have to be addressed. there's common ground to get those things done to address spending and ways to

address our tax code fairer, more thoughtful. those are things we ought to be working on. those are timely issues we have deadlines that have to be done. the american people want us to get those things done. don't want this last minute problem solving to occur. they want things to be done now. >> some of your colleagues suggested, they are going to let the sequester to go through. >> there are other ways to make sure we can accomplish that. i am there to tell them what the impact will be on this nation's defense. how hurtful that will be to those men and women in uniform to the families to the dod civilians and how it affects this nation strategically. make sure we're doing what's in the best interest of the nation. >> mr. delaney, you are a businessman. you come from a business background. job creation on the president's agenda as well. talk about increasing the minimum wage to $9 an hour. good for workers, is that good for business? >> i think it's good for workers

and good for business. what business should care about in this country is making sure opportunity is broadly shared among the american population. one of the problems we have right now is businesses are dog well on a relative basis which is great but that's not being shared broadly among the american people and i don't think business is to blame for that. our economy has changed and technology have changed the face of the american workforce which is why we need to educate people better. change our immigration policies and do things to make the country more competitive so people who get jobs have a higher standard of living. the minimum wage is a way of ensuring people who make minimum wage don't live below the poverty line. that's not the kind of country they want to do business in either. >> briefly, final word, we have to wrap. >> sure. the most important

thing is for us to address the unemployment levels. we want people working and that's the critical element. how do we find ways to broaden the base to make sure they can do best and grow businesses and create jobs. >> that is the word here from local representatives. the one thing we can say in dc, maryland and virginia is the sequester is not good for our region and do what they can together to try to stop that. >> thank you. and at the president's address last night, several people from our area were invited by the first lady to attend. a teenager who developed a new way to detect pancreatic cancer. and another arlington resident there lisa richards who used twitter to fight back against a tax increase on the middle class.

9 year old star is the youngest person ever to be nominated for academy award for best actress. she joins us more to talk about it and plays her dad. welcome all of you to washington, to our studios. we are thrilled to have you here. congratulations to you miss pretty. >> thank you. >> gentleman, i have to start with her. i have to do it. what is it like ? can you even imagine that you might win an academy award. the youngest ever. >> i guess. things happen. >> right. but you got to be like -- or are you like me, really? are they talking about me? or did you know you could do something like this? >> no, it was something i wanted to try.

>> i want to ask what you saw and congratulations on them of e of telling this story. you saw additioned all of these -- auditioned all of these young stars and then the lovely quvenzhane walks in. >> we were traveling around louisiana for nine months trying to find the perfect person. and then when she came in, she's only five years old when she did her first audition. she had this poise and this wisdom and seemed to understand herself and understand the world in a special way. had all this acting talent that went along with it. we knew we would never find another person like her. >> it is acting talent because

as she sits here poised today, very different from who we see now on the screen. it is the essence of acting and transformation. >> absolutely. >> absolutely. and speaking of which, i have to say that mr. henry, you, as far as i know had no previous acting experience either. you own a bakery and a deli and another bakery and deli. here comes katrina. that gets wiped out. you are this self made man and now you are in this academy award nominated movie. how is your life right now? >> life has changed for me. i've been a businessman for the past 13 years. i got thrown into the movie business and my whole life has been changed. and business has probably doubled since the movie. i've been meeting some of the most famous people that i've been admiring all my life. it's been a wonderful journey. >> do you have the bug now? are you ready to put somebody

else in charge? what's the name? >> buttermilk drop. >> i know that's right. if you are in the big easy, go and visit. do you have the bug though? you want to do more acting? >> a little bit but my heart is still in the bakery business. it's a business i've been in all my life. i started my business to my kids and my kids are the most important people to the world to me. i'm building my business to pass down to them and to the next generation. so that is most important to me. my business and my children. >> there's some tough scenes. i'm just assuming everybody in the world has already seen it and i urge you to see it. it's an adventure. but it's kind of dark in places and there are moments when wink has to be a little hard. what was it like and you are nominated for best director. congratulations. what was it like to sort of say

okay now you got the role, let's get to work. and in the conditions you worked in too, the mud, the water, that houseboat or boat you all live on. what was it like? >> you know, it was truly an adventure. we didn't shoot in sets, we didn't shoot in well air conditioned green screens. everything was shot on the water on location. no one had to act like they were hot or act like they were getting bitten by mosquitos we were out there really doing it. it was tough everyday. it was a physical challenge. but an incredible adventure. we had a ton of fun on set. and something we'll never forget. >> i read you looked at it like playtime. you were really little when you did it. some of this -- have you seen the movie? >> yes. >> and i ask you that because some of it is hard to see. what do you think now when you look at your little self when you

were playing that role? are you amazed? >> i laugh as i watch it. >> do you? >> even at some parts you are not supposed to laugh. >> okay. >> it's funny to you? >> yes. because as i was little, it has a big me on the screen with a small voice and i'm a little me. with a big voice. it's kind of confusing. >> my daughter who is a little younger than you, she wanted me to ask you wasn't it scary when you had to face the things you had to face like right up in your face in that movie. were you scared? >> whenever i had to touch the pig that actually wanted me to put my face up on that and i said no. some things >> some things you said no.

what's next to you ? >> all i have is 12 years. >> do you know how busy you are going to be from now on? yup. sorry. get ready. you are going to be busy for the rest of your -- as long as you want to act. and you do want to continue acting right? there's not going to be one year you don't have a movie. there was whenever i was like 4 and 3. >> i'm talking about from now on. trust me. and i know if you have any say in it, this young lady will be acting for many years to come. we have enjoyed talking to you and the movie. and congratulations on all your success. >> thank you. >> all right. i got to end it here. thank you so much for coming in. when i am in new orleans, i am coming. i'm going to stand in that line and get to you. ben, what's next for you? >> as soon as we are done promoting the film in march, going to go back home and start writing the next film. hopefully a lot of the same people in this one will be part
