tonight at 10:00. here's brian now with the news edge at 11:00. breaking news now out of prince george's county, a high school student was killed in forestville tonight. he's the sixth student to be killed since the start of the school year and suitland high school mourning the second murder in 24 hours. lauren demarco starts our team coverage now live in forestville. >> reporter: they have reopened some of the nearby streets here, but there is still a large crime scene roped off in the area of pennsylvania avenue and donnell drive in forestville. police are continuing to investigate, look for any possible witnesses and canvas the area for evidence. this all started with a call around 5:30 this evening in the 3700 block of donnell drive. when officers responded, they found two 18-year-olds lying in a parking lot, both shot. one of them who was a freshman at suitland high school was pronounced dead at the

hospital. the other 18-year-old was taken to the hospital and described in grave condition. police say there is nothing to indicate this case is connected to the fatal shooting of a 15- year-old suitland high school student in hillcrest heights last night. however, we did speak with a few people at the scene who did believe all the teenagers knew each other. very sad for the school system. briant coleman, spokesman for prince george's county schools, says, "we cannot go another day without addressing these unspeakable acts of violence against our students. we're asking for the community's support as our students, teachers and employees cope with these incidents." now police say they have received some tips on this case here tonight. they're looking for more information. so anyone who has seen anything, heard anything, may have any information that can help lead to an arrest, you're asked to contact prince george's county police as soon as possible. back to you. the shooting just the

latest in a long string of violent crimes against young people in prince george's county. as we mentioned over and over again, students have been killed in their homes more often on the straights. the six murders have left fellow students in shock, parents on edge. last night's victim 15-year-old charles walker may have lost his life over a pair of shoes. will thomas has that in the newsroom. >> that 15-year-old also attended suitland hospital. today police talked about a possible motive and you heard correctly from brian. investigators think the gunman wanted a new pair of shoes in his bag. let me show you where things stand with these killings. back in august 17-year-old amber stanley was killed during an apparent home invasion. two weeks later marckel ross was shot walking to school. december 14th 14-year-old elyza reyes was gunned down and in january marcus jones 16 was killed. charles walker was shot at 4:30

in the afternoon at 28th avenue and forestville near iverson mall. walker had a shopping bag with a new pair of shoes inside. a group walked up, demanded the bag. he refused and made a run for it. that's when someone shot him in the back and killed him. they didn't even bother to take the shoes. the woman who found the 15-year- old spoke out about the tragedy. we'll share some of that. then we'll hear from a member of the prince george's county public school board of education. he's somebody. he's somebody's child. ild. he's somebody's nephew. he's somebody's cousin. >> we need every shake holder working together to make sure that our communities are safe because -- stakeholder working together to make sure that our communities are safe because what happens in the school house impacts the community and what happens in the community impacts the school house. >> walker's relatives say he was carrying a pair of timberland boots he was going

to give to his girl friend. he was walking to the bus stop. arrests have been made in two of the murders we mentioned, the reyes and jones cases. more arrests are expected soon. prince george's county officials say they've had enough of the violence. county executive rushern baker will join us tomorrow on fox 5 morning news at 8 a.m. police say the woman found dead inside a burning apartment in reston yesterday was pregnant. neighbors smelled smoke coming from the second floor of the apartment on waterside view drive. firefighters forced their way in, found 38-year-old jennifer lynn pierson dead. family members gave fox 5 a picture of her tonight. they said in a statement pierson was stabbed before the fire began and say her baby was a boy due in june. there have not been any arrests in her death. the edge on d.c. where a 4- year-old girl is dead following a deadly fire in southeast. the home owner 46-year-old jerome lewis was arrested before the house went up in flames saturday. firefighters found 4-year-old

samari jenkins inside the home. she was rushed to the hospital with smoke inhalation and burns. lewis was charged with assault and felony threats. police are investigating if the fire was intentionally set. the mother of a murdered toddler filed a wrongful death lawsuit seeking millions of dollars from a psychologist she claims played a key role in allowing unsupervised visits to the child's father. last month joaquin rams was charged with killing the 15- month-old during one of those visits. fox 5's sherri ly has more. >> my son was my heart. >> reporter: hera mcleod wants to make sure those involved in the death of her 15-month-old son prince pay. she filed a $20 million lawsuit against an ashburn psychologist and practice she claims knew joaquin rams was dangerous. the father is accused of drowning the child in a bathtub. >> there is no price or there is no lawsuit that's going to bring him back, but what i can do as his mom is i can make sure that nobody will forget

him. >> reporter: the lawsuit filed in fairfax county where prince died accuses ashburn psychological services and psychologist margaret wong of negligence, infliction of emotional distress company wrongful death. wong testified rams was mentally fit and recommended he be granted unsupervised visits. according to the lawsuit, the doctor ignored reports that rams had been abusive, was a suspect in the murder of his ex- girl friend shawn mason and in the death of his own mother. >> this was not a situation where a normal otherwise mentally stable person suddenly snapped. snapped. mr. rams has a long history of violence. >> reporter: the judge granted the visits in part because of the doctor's testimony. then last october the toddler died while in the care of his father. rams was charged with murder last month. police say he'd taken out $550,000 in life insurance on the child. >> i think anyone would agree that a parent who would take

out a life insurance policy on an infant for whom he had no financial or legal responsibility and violently murdered that child which is exactly what he did. >> reporter: rams has not been charged in the other two deaths, but prince's murder prompted the commonwealth attorney to take a second look. >> people die around this guy. three people have now died. all of whom he's had a financial benefit to some extent in their death. >> the day that mr. rams was arrested was probably one of the best days of my life. >> reporter: and mcleod also believes the psychologist who vouched for rams should also be held accountable for her son's murder. rams' attorney did not return fox 5's call for comment. neither did ashburn psychological services or dr. wong. mcleod says that she was always worried that she would be the one killed. she wrote more than 200 letters to her son if that happened.

now he will never read them. in the control room sherri ly, fox 5 news. a former doctor at johns hopkins hospital who was suspected of secretly recording patients has been found dead at his house in towson. 54-year-old nakita levy is believed to have committed suicide. an employee reported he was using personal equipment to take pictures and videos of his patients. levy announced and acknowledged his conduct and was fired february 8th. following a big story from missouri tonight, at least 14 people hurt in an explosion and massive fire at a kansas city restaurant. it all started when a car crashed into a gas main. witnesses say the explosion felt like an earthquake and blew out windows in the building. the fire burned for hours tonight as the gas continued to leak. coming up a child badly burned at a children's hospital and doctors aren't sure how it happened. however, hand sanitizer may

hospital. hand sanitizer may be partly to blame. fox's jamie wilson has more. >> sometimes i feel like i'm right at the top of the stairs before i'm kicked down them again. >> reporter: after watching his daughter battle kidney cancer steve lane can't help but ask why her, why us? 11-year-old ireland is in remission, but a couple weeks ago she hit her head at school and passed out. so steve brought her back to dornbecker. on february 2nd steve said ireland was making gifts for the nurses and he dozed off when all of a sudden he heard her -- >> she screamed fire i'm burning. when i sat up she was going out the door towards the nurses. one of them ran to get some kind of blanket or something to put it out and i laid across her to put out the fire. >> reporter: doctors rushed ireland to the icu and eventually transferred her toking are is i burn center. steve says all his -- her to the ledge is i burn center. steve says -- legacy burn center. steve says all his kids had been playing with static electricity that week and

ireland had just wiped down her table with hand is an tidesser. >> i gave them -- sanitizer. >> i gave them permission to tear through the entire room and the only flammable thing she had used all day was the hand sanitizer. >> that this would happen anywhere much less our own hospital was just awful. our heart goes out to the child and her family. >> reporter: dornbecker doctors are horn fide but are waiting for the fire -- are horrified but are waiting for the fire marshal to finish their investigation. it was an alcohol-based hand sanitizer and doctors say most are. >> i worked in the medical profession for years and i know how important hand sanitizer is to the spread of germs and viruses and everything else. so i don't even blame the hand sanitizer. >> reporter: steve lane thinks this was just a terrible accident. ireland is burned from her belly button to her chin and on her earlobes. she has to have a second skin graft surgery thursday, but steve knows she'll get through

picking up, but it's not as cold as it's going to be and they're not as bad as they're going to get, so we have a nice little window of opportunity. we'll have a pretty good wind blowing most of the day and it will be at least 10 degrees cooler than today for many of you. a little shot of cold stuff as we continue the theme of a chilly week in d.c. with somewhat minor storms and maybe something more important for the weekend on our seven-day forecast which we'll talk about in a moment. let's focus on temperatures first, a lot of low 40s, not too bad. the reason why is because only a few hours ago we had the frontal boundary pass us by. the cold air is lagging. it's 36 in gaithersburg and frederick, 34 in hagerstown. we don't have to look too far to find colder air. cincinnati 26, chicago 12 and up toward fargo, north dakota, 12 degrees below 0, 2 degrees

below 0 in international falls, lincoln 11 degrees. that's the colder air. we don't get into that really cold stuff, but you'll definitely notice quite a change in the temperature department tomorrow. columbus is 24 degrees colder than they were 24 hours ago, pittsburgh 16 degrees colder. we're actually warmer, but we will see this drop off as well as the colder air continues to come in. gusty winds will also be a part of that story. pittsburgh has a gust of 28, so does beckley, columbus and detroit and as the frontal boundary continues moving away from the coast, the combination of pressure dropping and increasing pressure from an area of high pressure that will build in wednesday we'll get that tight pressure gradient going. locally winds aren't too bad yet, baltimore gusting to 24, gaithersburg 24, martinsburg 30, cumberland 29. that's typical how the winds are tomorrow as well. wind chills will also be a

story, not too terrible at this hour, but expect them to be in the 20s most of the day tomorrow. some of you might have wind chills in the teens. the rain is long gone and maybe there were wet patches around. i think the wind will do a number on them tonight. keep in mind anything sheltered will probably freeze. snow only for the mountains. i don't think anybody else will see that. it's going to pile up here and another inch or 2 possible on the western facing slopes of the appalachians tonight. we will drop to 32 in the step, mid-and upper 20s north and west and yes, it will be breezy tonight. sun is back tomorrow, so a nice break day even if it's real chilly and breezy and snow continues off to our west. thursday sunny and chilly. we'll notice a little rain building through the ohio and tennessee valley. that will probably get in here sometime friday. 32 tonight. clouds will decrease, winds pick up. the winds stick with us tomorrow, temperature 38 feeling like the 20s.
