them to life in prison withoutio parole. >> supporters of the death penalty can petition the bill to a ballot for voters to decide next year. governor o'malley will also sign grace's law.e's that is to prevent cyber bullying. the maryland health progress act as well as legislation to improve voting access in the free state. in the meantime, a former culpepper county police officer will bety p sentenced this aften in the fatal shooting of a 54-year-old woman. a jury has recommended a three-year sentence for 33-year-old daniel harmonarmo wright. he was convicted of several charges including involuntaryry manslaughter in the death of patricia cook. now, cook was unarmed and una driving away from wright when he opened fire after investigatingi a suspicious vehicle call in february of last year. a maryland man faces up to 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to a deadly hit-and-run. joel bromwell admits he hit andd

killed 71-year-old ruby whitfield as h she crossed floro avenue northeast back in march. he also said he was drinking prior to the accident. he will be sentenced in august on involuntary manslaughter charges. a diplomatic compound is at the center of a human trafficking investigation. >> records show the property is owned by the kingdom of saudi arabia. melanie is live outside that o home in mclean with the details now. melanie? >> reporter: good morning, tony andoo allyson. federal shorts say and this is in their words, that they rescued two women from thiss compound in mclean tuesday night. it's got a couple of buildings i behind a locked iron gate. there's also a guard shack here. neighbors say they've noticed at lot of people living and working here, with yo but really no sigf unusual activity. so far there have been no arrest. the feds are not identifying the two women.

federal ice agents encountereded two potential victims of trafficking. they did not say if the women contacted them or if someone called ice on their behalf. sources familiar with the investigation indicate that authorities do not believe they were talking about any sort off sexual abuse here but that the t women did say they were being held against their will. one woman apparently tried to t escape by squeezing through a a gap in the front gate as it was closing, upsetting as you can imagine to neighbors. >> i was shocked. i live down the street. things like this don't happenape here. i'm surprised and feel so bad for the women if the story iss true. >> this is really strange. i mean, we've never heard anything. >> and again, no charges yet.

again, authorities also spoke to people using the words possibly human trafficking case. c no charges or no arrest yet. a spokesman with ies does ice cs as the investigation is in thein early stages.y we were able to contact someone from the saudi arabian embassy.. they said they had no comment and said the embassy and this complex are two separate operations. back to you. >> melanie, thank you very much. a guilty verdict in a high profile beatin beating case. 22-year-old tommy branch wasas found guilty on four charges. c his victim was capitol hill resident t.c.maslin. he was walking home from a netsa game when he was attacked. he suffered severe head injuries and continues his recovery. branch will be sentenced in july. two other men were with branch t the night of the attack. att one pled guilty. the other is awaiting trial.

well, three friends of bombing suspect dzhokhar tsarnaev are under arrest this morning. they face charges of trying to help tsarnaev. >> two of the friends are from kazakhstan. they appeared in a boston court yesterday. investigators say dzhokhar sent them text messages on the nightt of april 18th. 1 they went to his room to watch a movie. that's when they saw a backpack and fireworks with the gun powder reit wa removed. they later allegedly threw the backpack and the laptop into a dumpster. the third friend is charged with lying to the fbi. an american man is sentenced to 15 years of hard labor in nortnorth korea as tensions cone on the korean peninsula. >> kenneth bay is a korean american from washington state. he was convicted in a trial on tuesday, but the u.s. state sta department says it's not aware n of the charges.ha north korean media are only saying that he was charged with

plotting to overthrow the government. bay regularly took small groupsp of tourists to north korea. kor he was arrested last november after entering the north on a valid tourist visa. the district of columbia isa moving closer to issuing drivers license to undocumented immigrants. later today mayor vincent gray and other city leaders will announce the introduction of thf 2013. >> it's a new law that would let dmv issue licenses, permits, or id cards to residentses of the district. >> now, in other local news, the mayor will be with the dc department of health to launch the city's first campaign against synthetic marijuana. it's aimed at helping kids and teens understand the dangers off the drug. the dc prevention center reports the use of synthetic marijuana among youths has significantly increased in recent years with t the average age of users around 13 years old.

there are new developments in the move to make the morningi after pill available without a prescription. >> justice department iss appealing a ruling that lifts age limits. l the federal government said thed judge who issued the ruling exceeded his authority and hisis decision should be suspended while the appealbe is underway. on tuesday the fda ruled anyone 15 or older could buy plan b without a prescription, twoion, years younger than the current age limit of 17. all right. turning now to some better news, really, news for the non-profit trust in charge of upgrading the national mall. >> german car maker volkswagenn will announce a $10 million donation today to that trust. t the company's ceo said he was shocked to see such poor conditions around the national mall and that he plans to to encourage other organizations to get involved as well. the trust has raised just over $27 million of the $350 million it says it needs for major

it is a dream come true. josh was paralyzed from the waist down when his humvee ran over a gym in afghanistan in 2009. he austi always loved the gym bt could not work out since hisis injury. that has all changed. they designed strength training equipment designed to fit josh.s for me as an ot, it was -- it was the one thing i couldn't dot for him.

to kind of burn that off. for parts of the area, it hasn't started off with full sunshine. there you go.e yo you can see the live shot. sh you can see the cloud cover. c we'll start to get breaks in thn clouds shortly, and it should i turn into a mostly sunny afternoon. we'll be nice and dry laterer today. this is some of that air off the ocean that we're dealing with da monday and tuesday that's giving us this little layer of cloud cover. 51 in washington, the cloudh cover holding us back a little bit. we bounced up into the mid 50s for viewers to the west. we're getting full sunshine already. 59 in culpepper, 54 this morning in martins burg. hager town. 52 in annapolis. starting to get cloud cover clo popping up in the last couple frames, particularly washingtonw and points south and east ace mentioned. that's about it. that's the only player in ourur forecast other than high pressure which has beeneen controlling our weather for the better par part of this entire e which is off to the north. that will continue to dominate things. notice the storm out to the west. that's winter weather.

honey bees, we wouldn't have food. honey bees are the pol pollinatr for most of our food. we want bees. when you see a bee in your garden, and if it comes around, it's usually coming around like this flower. mother nature's got this all right. the whole flower, all the petals, the things we think are really attractive to us is is really about getting that bee right into the center of that flower. if it's a fruit tree, we'll gett fruit. if you see the bees in your garden and they're honey bees, b try to 1 leave them alone. a they don't want to mess with you. they're just about theirut business of collecting food. the same thing with the birds, you know. a lot of people say oh, my god, the birds are so messy. m there's some really -- there's a really big decline in some of o

the song sparrows and the wrenns in our area. this is a gourd which is very, very interesting. int it's been made out of a natural gourd. it's been hollowed out, and it's just the right size to get somet of the song wrens. this is a really good one. it will be attractive to song sparrows and some of the othertr smaller song birds that yo thatt to hae in the garden. g they're on the decline because d they tend to make very tiny nests in our shrubs and thingshg like that. cats and other things like that can actually find them because they sing, s but putting somethg like this into your landscape will also help. now, how do we -- why should wew think about this right now.smala even the sagege we can see the sage is getting t ready to flurry.to

>> it's 50 years since the deatd of john f. kennedy.enn the newseum is marking his presidency with a couple of special exhibits. holly is there this morning. good morning, holly. >> reporter: good morning to you. we spent the last couple years downstairs in what was called creating cam lot. you can feel the energy behind the magic of that time. when you come to the sixth floor, the exhibit is threeee shots were fired.re it's a decidedly different feel when you come up here. it's almost as if the grief andd the heaviness of that time is really palpable.pabl the curato rch of thr of the exs here. you know what is so amazing a about this exhibit? not only do you feel a sense of history, you start to understanr how history changed for news

on the top of the page you see the start of the motorcade. after that, the rest of the schedule is gone. also it helps to tell the story you have acquired some objects that have never been publicly displayed before. >>spla absolutely. we had a great opportunity to borrow some items from the national archives and have these items on display for the veryy first time publicly. pub there's a jacket that was worn by lee harvey oswald that was part of the chain of evidence for the law enforcement folks. he was wearing this jacket andnd then tossed it aside after he shot the officer, and then theye trailed him to the texas theatex where heas was arrested and he s wearing this shirt when he was arrested there, and he was carrying the wallet that you see along with these contents, and it goes everything from a fro picture of his wife to his card. there's a real range of things found in the wallet. >> interesting.

you partner with shelters. >> we partner with shelters when able, and you know, we tour around the country and we educate people on the importanta benefits of, you know, working with their cats and also relationship with your cats, and then also encourage people to adopt from local shelters. cats are forme former orphans ad rescues and strays. it's kind of a popular method to the showop but aul lot of fun to watch. you never know what the cats will do. they're cats. >> you're in the background, right? >> i've been training animals since i was 10, and i went to school and got a degree in animal services, so it's opinion my calling to be an animal trainer. >> what do they do in the down time? do they like to hang out and bathe? do they take a rest? >> oh, yeah.eah. actually, they ar play with toys and games and you know, they
