this week.eek. it dropped yesterday and here hr now to talk about it live from new york is matthew morrison. good morning, matthew. how are you? >> i'm doing pretty good, tony, how are you doing? >> great. g glad to have you on the show. let's talk about the album. i was going to say i would assume that most people know kno that your background is from the stage but maybe some don't knowo that this is your first love, right? >> yeah, you know, i think a lot of people know me from glee obviously but i had a long tenen year career on broadway before that and even before that, i started in children's theater and at performing arts high school. i've been sing, you know, thesee songs for a long time. this is my first love. this is the album i wanted to make and i'm really proud of itt and excited to have finally gotten to make it. >> just so we can let people know give us a sense of material you are work, with.

some of the classics and songs interpreted previously by frank sinatra and others.d >> yeah, i mean are classic songs. luck be a lady. l i took the classic bones of the songs that some of the best vocalists of all time have put their stamp on and tried to put my own tap industry over it, i guess. these are songs that we've heard for -- some of them almost 70 years. and they are still around today and relevant and vibrant and they are timeless. >> i want to mention that amonga the people you worked with on o this album is the great produce your phil ramon who we lost earlier this year. i would imagine it has to haveve been one of his final projects.. testimony talk about what it was like working with him.

this is his last complete work. the man was a legend he has has works with aretha franklin and a billy joel. frank sinatra, tony bennett. one of the greatest things aboua working with him is actually when i should have been in the recording both, i was in the control room because i wanted to hear his stories. he lived such an amazing lifengl and was so talented and i feel so thankful i'm to thankful he e said yes and i got experience this man before he passed. >> pretty amazing. incredible. let's talk about what has been happening happening with glee. one of things that is interesting about your character. you know, i think you are always referred to as the eternally ete optimistic teacher and all after this kind of thing. you are character has evolved some over the period of time per

you've been on the show. can you address that a little bit? >> no, i cannot. [ laughter ] i am -- yeah, you know, he started as this guy kind of taking over this rag tag group of kids. we've seen his struggled througt that and getting to his kids motivated and, you know, prepared to conquer nationals. and also on a personal level we've seen him go through a divorce. we've seen him kind of spark upu i new relationship and get married again it's been a great ride and i loved my time on the show. i can't believe we're going into the fifth season coming up. it's been a lot of fun. >> that's amazing five seasons already. if i read correctly you are going to be hereor in washington this fall is is that right? thank is correct performing with the national symphony ork industry. >> at the kennedy center.

hours later, exhausted, dirty and hopefully not hit by oncoming traffic. >> we haven't gone very far. >> it's early in the morning and i didn't do my stretching. i think we might be okay. >> my big question for you is why. what are you trying to get yourr performance art to say? >> i'm trying to look at what are sort of the pedestrian features of ross lynn -- roslyn? how do we encounter them. i look ate it's a place of energy. public arts projects and a placn in is the conflewence of severav large roads and dangerous pedestrian crossings. so i look at the sky walks meant to convey people above traffic to the second level as this sort of relic of the 60s as we have moving people through space. i want to ask people on the daily commute what is it like to walk through here? what sp your experience of it and take a look at it and how ask comfortable and safe we feel
