[ applause ] >> and, i want to go ahead and get started. and look at this photo of this woman, if you will. so, what if i told you, as you watch her little by little, she's making a change. as you go through the pictures over the course of 30 days, would you all not agree her appearance is improving dramatically? >> whoa. yeah. >> she didn't something simple to change her skin. any ideas? >> lots of water. >> no sugar. >> she went on a vegan diet. >> all she did, the answer, was not drink for 30 days. that change in complexion, and of course, could alcohol be making you look less attractive. she drank 5 glasses of wine a week, that's not a lot. >> wow. >> there are people in the room that drink more than

[ laughter ] >> the moral of the story is, if you knew that you were gonna look like that from drinking 10 + drinks a week, you may cut back, right? >> right. of course! >> people always wonder why they see certain people with red faces. the capilaries are small blood vessels under the skin, you typically can't see them. when you drink, they expand and the expansion of the capilaries and the blood vessels lead to a flushing, rosacea, that stays there. >> some have a histamine-like reaction when they drink wine, so it's worse. you have the expansion of the capilaries and a bit of an allergic reaction at the same time, and then you are really red. but, let's just call a spade a

spade here. drinking in moderation, i mean we have talked about having a glass of wine a day, for most people, could potentially be heart healthy. so, do you know how many ounces the average red wine glass is? >> 27, i don't know. >> 20 +. a lot of times it's a 21 ounce glass or more in some cases. i think 21 ounces, maybe. but those are fishbowls. if you are filling it half way, you are looking at 10 and-a-half ounces. >> that's double a serving, right? >> yeah, yeah. so all of a sudden, you are like "i am having a half of a glass of wine" as measured in the wine glass, is true; but a glass of wine technically is 4 and-a-half ounces. so, that's where people have to be careful. >> there you go. and keep in mind, you need to get smaller glasses. even thote big glass -- though the big glass is beautiful, the bigger your glass is the more you put in, and the more you drink. >> get a cute little one, and you drink in moderation.

>> so, hey, before we go to break, any questions that you all have for us? because ... what's your name . >> paulina. >> how are you? >> fabulous. >> what's going on? >> i am not a big wine drinker, i do mixed drink , does this stuff still apply to me . >> oh, yeah. very much so. since you are drinking mixed drinks you have sugar in your drinks. >> oh. >> you are adding another layer of calories and a whole other layer of stuff that will age you and make you not look so great. >> interestingly, if you look at it, there are studies that show, liquor, beer, and wine all may have heart-health benefits. it's interesting. i think where liquor's so dangerous, is, you know, you pour half of a cup in, and you have 3 serving sizes. any other questions? >> what's your name? >> i with my friends, we hang out and smoke marijuana and

also drink. but most of the time they would say that the smoking is healthier than the drinking. >> legal or illegal marijuana? >> legal, it's all legal. >> just to be clear here. >> where's your card? >> i don't have my wallet with me right now. >> now, rusmoking -- are you smoking blunts or joint or a bong? >> i am local, from the caribbean. blunts. we don't do anything but blunts. which is more, they say it's more healthy to drink -- to smoke than drink alcohol. >> when you wrap the marijuana in a tobacco leaf, you are smoking a cigarette. if you do it regular you could possibly be smoking a pack of cigarettes a day based on how many blunts you are smoking. but if we are gonna compare alcohol-related issues, versus marijuana-related issues, you know, we can't really find a lot of clinical data to say there's a lot wrong with it,

but what we can say for teenagers and those whose brains are still developing, studies show it slows the development of your brain. >> that's the problem. >> alcohol versus marijuana, it's when you throw in the term "abuse". there's no such thing as healthy alcohol abuse or marijuana abuse. and you are splitting hairs a bit when you start asking: which would be worse? the key is, when you start doing something to the extent that it's considered even you are thinking it could be abuse. drinking too much or smoke too much marijuana. in most cases both of them are terrible for your health . >> hold your questions, we will get to more later in the show. >> opening up about how she lost weight and revealed her cancer. surprising secrets to her success, robin quivers opens up about her battle with cancer. >> what happens to you when you hear someone say: you

[ applause ] >> hi! >> have a seat. >> thank you. ? >> first of all, you look great. >> thank you, thank you. >> robin, what's interesting is that, when you hear the word "cancer" -- >> uh-huh. >> right? it just does something to you psychologically. you are doing great, you lost a lot of weight. you are a celebrity, a star, a great career. what happens to you when you hear someone say "you have cancer"? >> i didn't believe it. [ laughter ] >> i have a great ability to go into denial! [ laughter ] >> so, i -- they keep saying i have cancer. but i really couldn't believe it. you know, when they first

said, you have a mass in your pelvis, i was like, well, i wonder what that is? they kept saying we think it's this or that, and finally they said, it's cancer. and i am like "what does that mean, i don't know what that is". >> so, there had to have been a moment, you know, maybe it was in the middle of the night when you were laying in bed that you processed it? okay ...it's cancer. >> it happened so fast from the time i completely could not pass urine to the operation, was 10 days. and that was 10 days of tests and speculation. and then, you know, not even diagnosis. we knew it was cancer but nobody knew what kind, where it was coming from. they didn't know anything. i went into surgery, and i went in with the knowledge that it could be the end of me, because they said, well, if we put in the scope and we see it's everywhere, we will close you up and bring you out. what you have to hope for is a long operation. >> yes, yes.

>> endometrial cancer is one of those where the signs and symptoms are subtle, people don't realize it's there. >> i experienced extreme fatigue, and eventually i couldn't urinate because the tumor got so big that it blocked my urethera, and water, you know, i couldn't pass water. yeah. >> is it true your tumor was the size of a grapefruit. thook what they said -- that's what they said. what happened was, basically, the mass grew in the girdle of the pelvis and was leaning on every organ inside, and eventually took up the entire space. and that was why it was hard to figureout what was going on. >> yeah, yeah. >> those who don't know what endometriosis is, endometriosis endometrium, spread out throughout her perito nium.

the >> the inner lining of the uterus. so little parts of spread out throughout everywhere, and it developed cancer. they didn't know what they were looking at when they went in. >> right. >> in terms of endometrial cancer, things that put you at risk are obesity, being a little older, as we age the risk goes up and not ever having children or not ever having with -- been pregnant. or starting a late period in life. >> and so i am glad you got to the doctor in enough time and had this great outcome. >> we are so, so very happy you were correctly diagnosed and correctly treated. and i want to share with everyone, some of the stepsister you took in your own -- steps you took in your own life. because you did. you went veg an. you started eating super nutritious foods. what's amazing is, robin can
