5:06 pm
>>reporter: very cool stuff. this is amazing, especially ifspec you love history like a lot oflot us do. we all know alexandria a a special old town has a lot of history, but nobody knew this was here. take a look for yourself. down under that black tarp right now it's about 50 to 60 feet60 f long. experts tell us it is anywhere from 240 to 245 years old.ld. now, they discovered this whilehi they were building this area forarea a new hotel that's going to comeome in here to old town alexandria.alex but while the experts are tryingryin to piece together this ship's history the locals say theyhey never expected to start 2016 with a discovery from something as far back as 1775.1775 francine bromberg has been the arc psychologist at alexandrialex virginia for a quarter century. so it was totally water logged. you could say it was a pretty
5:07 pm
good day when francine got thehe call that a 250 year old sailing ship had been dug up in her city a remarkable archaeological dream basically.basi >> the revel rugsly war era shiphi was unearthed at the site thathe s was being cleared for a new hotel. turns out this area used to bee in the potomac river before it was back filled two centuries ago to expand alexandria'ss waterfront. we know that this ship was put in place sometime between 1775 and 1798. but who owned it? what did it carry and who sailed on it? foror now, that remains a mystery. but you know there are somere things we know about it not onlynly is this ship historic it has also become something of a celebrity. >> look at that. do you know the name of the ship? and just as soon as thethe fences were opened up to let folks get a look at this oldld

ship a crowd sailed in. >> that is unbelievable. > i think it's great. it's like a once in a lifetime thing. it makes you wonder what else is hidden and underneath our groundur here. what's next for the 18th century ship, well a 21st century water tank. that will give people like frankrank seen people able to solve the mystery. >> i think 2016 is off to a great start. there is a bit of irony in allrony of this.his. there is a pretty intense debate going on in alexandria over waterfront development. folks who oppose this hotel even being here are talking about whether or in the this shouldhi have been turned into a maritime museum.mu there's also a school of thought tho that says this ship would neverld have been found if they had nothad excavated this site to build the hotel.
5:09 pm
there's also that weird clip of history if you consider thisthis ship wouldn't have been left here 200 years ago if alexandria's founding fathershers hadn't decided to fill this area in to expand the waterfrontwate we're on right now. toms fitzgerald, fox5 local news. > archaeological stream comelogi drew. >> they're not even done yet. who knows what else they mighten cover. > coming up in a move that maythat give hope to many model aircraft flyers. a local lawsuit is challenging the faa's new drone registration rules. >> another man on hoverboards. a local college prohibiting students cruising on campus. i'm matt ackland, at rfk, the old home of the skins, but could it be the future home. that story coming up after thethe break. you know what i'm noticing about today, especially as i look at you on tv it's still light outside and our sun going down

man having a heart attack only to leave without helping. more than 18 minutes went by before paramedics finally got to the scene, but the man later died. fox5's paul wagner joins us live with that story. >>reporter: sarah and laura l we're still trying to get all of this together.. it's taken all day long. we got the tip early this th morning. we've had to look at records, at talk to people talk to sources about what exactly what happened here and this is what we think happened now according to others somes and records thatom eve woo ' been ablees to see. just before 4:00 last sunday sun afternoon at this house here on 60th street albert jackson, 67 years old went into cardiac arrest. his wife went right to his aid aid along with two grandsons and gr they began cpr. they tried to keep him alive. they called 911. according to records we've been able to see at 4:02:44, just to good about five to six minutes mi
5:32 pm
later truck 17 arrives on the scene. however, truck 17 doesn't go do into the house. instead what we understand is as is they pulled up into the block bl they saw d.c. police in the block with a man on the ground who was handcuffed.. mpd or d.c. police then told truck 17 that they didn't need their services and that they could leave the scene.e at that point we understand truck 17 pulled off telling the dispatch others that they were told that d.c. police didn't d. need their help. then according to the timeline that we now have at 4:05:58 a a second call came from the house saying hey, where is the help? we still don't have any help he herein side the house and my husband is having a heart attack. at 4. 15 or nearly 19 minutes later engine 10 with a paramedic on board finally arrives at the t house and they go inside. we were able to talk to gloria jackson. she is the wife of albert

jackson. she told us that she thought it was taking a little bit longer lo than norm a.m. here's some of the conversation that we had with her just a little while ago. we tried cpr, but we kept doing it. she told me let her know whennow the paramedics get here. about 10 minutes later they came about six or seven of them came. do you think if you had gotten help a little l sooner that he might have made it.e i >> maybe. i'm not sure. su i'll say maybe. you were working on him yourself yo for quite a while. >> yes. he was in pretty bad shape? >> he was. he was. so gloria jackson said that she t was unaware of the incident until we came to the house and told her about it. it what d.c. fire officials are now trying to dermis why truck 17 left the scene, why didn't theyidn' take it a step further? why
5:34 pm
didn't they go into the house? is there some reason for this? th did they just take the word of the d.c. police that they couldhey move on? was there some mistake here. truck 17 thought that what they were trying -- or the help that they were trying to give was here out in the street and not inside the house? that's what the investigators are now trying tr to determine. again, to recap, a 67 year old man goes into card arrest truck 17 aeries, d.c. police wave them po off and then it takes nearly 19 minutes before paramedicscs finally get to this house here on 60th street northeast. back to you guys in the studio. i want to ask you because you y have been so on top of these stories where d.c. fire d.c department hasn't shown up or or they've shown up to the wrong wr address or they've shown up really, really late and i'm just wondering if you're getting ag sense from the inside on whether o or not there's a common denominator if this is just sloppiness or there is somethingre wrong with the d.c. fire

department that's leading to these? >> all i could tell you, laura, is that there are people in the city firefighters, police officers, whoever who come to us co and tell us these stories because they're angry, they're upset. this shouldn't happen. they don't want to see this t happen again. they want the light to shine onn it. they want us to know these stories. they want us to tell these stories because they want this fire department to be the best fire department it can be. they want the police department p to be the best police department it can be. so why do these things keep ke happening? that'sing somethingg i just can't explain. we just tell the stories. but it is a lot of frustration fru amongst people who are in this fire department who see these problems. they want the light to shine on it so they can make it better so it doesn't happen again. it wreaks havoc on people whole live in d.c. and pay taxes. > thank you. in other news now, all of those
