>> right now at 10:00, traffic turmoil. drivers were stuck in traffic for hours during the evening rush. >> and it was a snowplow guarantee. prince george country snow team vowing to make one passable lane in every road in the county. did they deliver? >> and you cannot call dibs, digging out of a parking space does not mean it is yours. >> and thanks for joining us tonight at 10 on "fox5"news at 10 i'm juan juan. shawn yancy and i'm jim lokay. >> here's a look at the school districts closed thursday. in virginia, alexandria city, arlington county, fairfax, fauquier, frederick, loudoun, mastracchio narcotic, mannasas city, prince william,

spotsylvania and stafford. >> and frederick county prince george. >> and the following districts on a two hour delay. charles county maryland and call pepner virginia. find the full list and anything else we did not mention on the bottom of your screen and also on fox5dc.com. >> and tonight, team coverage is post blizzard outrage continues to grow from the nightmare commute neighborhoods untouched by plows and a forecast with dropping temps that could make for a trucky morning commute. will thomas t. was gridlock behind you, will. >> absolutely. it was a mess out here, jim. i'll tell what you for a lot of people watching this right now, probab thousands of people. the commute into d.c. was a mess. maybe took you twice as long. all right. getting out ever a blizzard and crews are working and the commute home may have been worse. it was gridlock in the the city including wisconsin avenue. what we had was snow still in so. lanes and crews out there

working and take a look at aerial shot. it's camera perched high above the tv camera. you can see all those break light look at the camera pushs in just gridlock out here. a closer look from the ground. you can see cars, trucks, buse buses, barely creep ago long. just look at this. inches along. we heard from so many angry drivers opt phones and social media and angry with the sit yain federal government for being on for business. but road conditions perhaps were not ready for all the traffic. so when you consider it was tough to get in and tough to get out and for some people it took several hours to go very few miles and toad that gridlock it's no surprise a lot of you out here tonight had plenty to say. >> terrible. unbelievable. not just d.c. it's maryland too. >> i'm already late and everybody has been late this

week. >> we're about to make you more late. >> what do you make of all the traffic. >> i think it's kind of difficult when they can't get the snow up on the main -- back roads are bad but i've never seen it this bad. >> how long you have been in i it. >> 45 minutes. >> it's pretty awful we've been here an hour and a half. since said well. >> said well friend to private school here to where we are in wisconsin avenue, 1.3 miles i looked it up. again you heard her an hour and a half to go 1.3 miles. here's the world from d dot there's a lot of apparatus on the roads clearing the snow. and in some cases they were pretreating roads for refreezing tonight. so they say, their work it far from over. guys, i'll see you back inside in a few minutes. >> what a mess out there. thank you, will. >> that slow going evening commute was not limited to northwest d.c.. we dprov montgomery country and loudoun county and from the salt dmom leesburg lauren how
10:05 pm
was your commute from one county to the other? >> i'll tell you what, shawn, frustrations were running high. not just everybody on the roads but myself and my photographer, paul, as well. we were sitting it in along with you. of course, this was a historic storm, crews were work around the clock. you can see them here behind me at the salt dome in leesburg continuing to work out there. and it's very slow going. even though most of the roads are passable. river road was crawling during the evening rush heading out of d.c. in montgomery county towards beltway took us 45 minutes alone. it was down to one lane in either direction because that's all that was plowed and cruz were outlooking to move the snow and on up those additional lanes. >> an enormous effort really is enormous effort and i would have expected river road to have about cleared earlier. since it is a fairly major arterial but there's a lot of work to be done. and i know they have been
10:06 pm
working hard. >> and the highways are in pretty decent shape. in residential areas, ice is still a big concern in loudoun county. you can see why schools are closed through friday. on neighborhood streets and leesburg the sidewalks, they have not been touched and the roads, while plowed, are cove covered in ice, not fit for kids to walk to the bus stop. shannon why vdot shared photos of what crews are dealing with gravel roads and 8 foot snow drifts. he says most country roads should have seen a snowplow pass through once and cruz and crews continue to work night and day. >> i can only speak to loudoun we're doing one pass now. tonight we're concentrating on some of the primary roads. >> route 728, route 50rbgs route 234, those areas where we've lost a lane where it
10:07 pm
grows three lanes down to two because of snow, that's our main goal tonight is to get all those lanes opened up. that's a daivrping us. if we don't do that. so we're working hard on opening that up, all lanes. >> and intersections we're definitely trying to clear out intersections we know there's issues where snow is piled up on intersection and that's what we're working to to try to alleviate. >> some of that is really high at the intersections and it's difficult to look around. we saw that in d.c. and maryland as well. crews out here tonight and there's the plows and there's also trucks loading up with the stand and salt mix. they're going to be applying those to icy areas and tlel be refreezing overnight particularly ramps and overpasses. if you head out tomorrow morning be very careful with the ice. there's also potholes in areas as well. that's the latest in leesburg. lauren demarco, "fox5 local news". >> lauren, thank you. today temps reached the 40s in the district and roads became wet with melting snow. as you
10:08 pm
heard lauren say we can certainly count on refreeze out there overnight. so sue palka is here to talk about those concerns. you know it's instant chaos you add water and cold. >> you don't have to sprinkle anything on there you're right jim you have to watch your step in the morning and the reason this is bigger deal tonight we're colder. last night most places didn't get below the mid 30s. tonight the only place still at 321 district and annapolis area. everybody else is freezing. and check out what we saw on the roads today. a lot of wetness. we've gotten rid of a lot of snow pack over the last few days. it was 52 yesterday and 40s today and we've been doing a lot of melting. and when we refer to back ice, it's wet spots that look like it may be pavement and they're quite slippery and we're already seeing that in our own parking lot here. we want to you watch this tomorrow morning. if it looks like this it will be quite icy into any other untreated your front step, sidewalk and drive way. let me show you the setup to.
10:09 pm
high pressure is moving in overhead and lighting winds mean we can get quite cold and that's why we're seeing more ice than we've seen any other night this week since the blizzard started. you'll recall one week ago tonight a traffic nightmare with a little bit of snow that turned into ice. this is the kind of concern we have for tomorrow morning with teens and 20s taking any of that liquid that melted off and making it slippery. so i'm glad there's so many schools not going back tomorrow. we'll recover nicely tomorrow afternoon. we'll get back into the 40s. it's just those early morning hours because of this check out the temperatures. 19 frederick. 25 dulles. we're still 34 d.c. and annapolis and everybody else headed below that and this is a lot cold than it was last nigh night. overnight we head to upper teens to 25 and that's a recipe for some potential slipping and sliding tomorrow morning as well as later on tonight. we'll have the latest on even warmer temperatures though to further reduce that snow pack that's coming your way in the 7

"fox5" marina morocco is live tonight. did the county keep the props. >> if you ask these neighbors in temple hill they'll actual no. it's resounding no. they're completely snowed n you see the drive way behind me here leads tie cul-de-sac and i'm standing in at least three, four inches of snow you see the shovel here nearly completely covered bit snow. and since i try taking steps here i sink deep into the snow. and the other side of the street it's been plowed by default basically by the residents that tried to get in and out of the street. throughout these days since saturday look i heard sue say with refreeze tonight it's going to get slick. getting out of the crew car here was a feat on own. now we spoke to residents here they say they're frustrated and
10:11 pm
pay taxes in prince george county and don't understand why they've been forgotten. >> i'm really frustrated because i called them several times. they told me calm down my lady told me they don't do cul-de-sacs because it's less travel. and i called back again and the lady said that's not true. somebody is lying. >> how are you getting home now? >> we'll go down the street to dot backyard. cut through the neighbor's yard. you don't see foot tracks down there. >> and now you're being looking at images from for the washington. we got several calls from neighbors in that area xlee which complaining of their streets also have been forgot ep by prince george county. when we showed up 7:30 plows were hard at work trying to clear that neighborhood. unfortunately, however, for residents here in for the washington, a very different scenario. they're now going on day 5 of being snowed in and they said in 2010 during knowmageddon they were ♪in two weeks.
