hamilton. how the two women are being remembered tonight starts now. thank you for joining us on this somber sunday night. i'm lauren demarco. >> i'm jim lokay. a police officer who made the ultimate sacrifice. >> we have live team coverage. alexandra limon outside western district police station and marina marraco attended a vigil. she starts us off tonight. >> reporter: yeah, lauren, jim. what a sad occasion here. hundreds gathered at the county complex. there were many of them with badges that had black ribbons on them, candles in their hands and just behind their cruiser placed with flowers here, badges from other police districts. all of them here

officer ashley guindon who 20 days after being hired by a police department, was shot killed only a day after just being sworn in and just an hour and a half into their shift is when they got the call for domestic violence. hundreds filled the prince william county complex to honor 28-year-old ashley guindon gunned down in the line of duty after only an hour and a half into her first shift ever as a police officer. many who had never met her lit candles and prayed for guindon who they say did not lose her life in vain. >> ashley had the courage. >> black ribbons covered of badges paying respect to guindon who along with two veteran offices

violence call. >> reporter: inside ronald williams hamilton was armed a handgun and a rifle, his 11-year-old son at home, roxanne said she babysat for one of the injured officers i did not find out today that david mckeowan was one of the shot officers. >> reporter: she like dozens of others could not help but shed tears. >> every day when a law enforcement goes out there to do their job, they don't know if they're come home that day. >> reporter: although she barely served a day on the force, her colleagues say her service was infused in her being from the first day they met her. >> reporter: and the two other officers injur

officer guindon are at a nearby hospital still recovering and they have a long road ahead. she was the fourth police officer in the history of this police department to have lost her life in the line of tutty. tonight we're cover with alexandra limon who has the latest. >> reporter: that's right. we have the condition of the two officers who were injured. officer mckeowan was shot three times and officer hempen was shot once. both of them are currently stable, still being treated at fairfax innova hospital but i'm told they could need more surgeries ahead. sunday an noofr police vehicles rode down the streets of

mannasas. >> reporter: she was gunned down by 32-year-old army staff sergeant ronald hamilton who is assigned to the pentagon. investigators say they recovered a pistol and long barrel rifle from his home in woodbridge. they say the deadly chain of events began with a fight between hamilton and his wife and he allegedly shot and killed 29-year-old crystal hamilton who had called 911 before she was shot. now on the lawn of the home a makeshift memorial with photos and flowers honors her. >> i did not know this family but it broke my heart what happened to the officer and what happened here to the family. it was just so sad and it broke my heart and i wanted to come by and give my condolences. >> their 11-year-old son was also home but luckily

hurt. the three officers responding to the call encountered an armed suspect. >> when they arrived on scene, they approached the front door of the home and a subject inside the home later identified as the accused, opened fire, striking three officers who sustained critical wounds. >> in my view there's been too much criticism and disrespect shown for officers across america. this should be a reminder to all of us that they're putting their lives on the line to protect us and we need to respect them. >> reporter: the two other prince william county officers that were shot were jessie hempen and officer david mckeowan who has been with the department for ten years. hamilton is charged with capital murder of a police officer and first degree murder for the death

>> i saw a lot of people biking and running just like it was in the middle of spring. the question is will the warm temperatures stick around for us? >> reporter: we are going to have them sticking around for at least a couple of days. it's really a spring tease. we said make sure you take advantage of the day. so let's take a look at numbers. where did we hit today? well actually some 17 degrees above the seasonal average, we hit into the mid 60s at all three airports. absolutely unbelievable. well above seasonal for sure. but it was really comfortable out there. the winds picked up quite a bit, but also those winds helped to usher in that warm southerly air. right now it's 57 in dc, 57 at fredricksburg, we've got 55 at frederick this hour, 56 at dulles, 54 at martinsburg and 52 degrees at winchester. the winds are starting to calm down some but we still have winds that are a little strong out there. you see 20

right now at dulles, 17 in dc. anywhere from 17 to 28 mile per hour wind gusts. once again those are the winds that are bringing in that warm air so we get an advantage in one department and not a great advantage in the other. those winds will stay breezy for tomorrow as well. so 46 degrees. that's your overnight low. mostly clear skies and very much on the mild side. and as we move into the beginning of the week, the warmer air stays in place, at least for a couple of days and then we're going to get back to some changes and we're going to have a reality check of the season before the week is over. i'm going to have the details in just a while. lauren? >> thank you, gwen. fox 5 in montgomery now where we are learning about last night's devastating car crash that killed three family members. police say two cars collided at the intersection of river road and pile road in bethesda. a family of four was in one of the veh
