in hanover county virginia of self-inflicted gunshot wounds. police believe that he came here to this apartment last night, and killed these two women. here's the tragic part of this story. according to a spokesperson, for the state's attorney's office, kevin reynolds was arrested for assaulting tariq a jones back in early february. he was arrested and he stayed locked up for several weeks until a bomb hearing last week. at that bond hearing, according to the spokesman, tariq a jones went to the bond hearing, contested with the police said actually happened during that assault, and then she actually posted his bond. and then when within a week back here and according to police he shoots her dead. >> tariq a jones and jailisa walls hear wrist half sisters visiting with each other in jones' apartment, when a gunman took their lives. according to the neighbors who were home at the time, one of jones' children, a five year old, witnessed the murders and new the gunman by name. william mcnealy who didn't want

heard the gunshots. >> bamm, bamm, bamm. and i woke up, i said oh, somebody must be locked out, because it sounded hard. and by the time i got up, got my pants on, got my cigarette, see what's going on, heard it again, bamm, bamm, bamm. >> mcnealy said one of the shots went through the floor and into the apartment below. no one was harmed there. other neighbors told him they saw the gunman run down the stairs and out the front door. >> i don't know what was going through his head, but i pray, i feel sorry for the kids. i really do. >> gloria chapman lives in the complex says her nephew would play with jones' little girls. >> they are some loving kids. i'm so sorry that they had to see their mother go this way. >> late this afternoon jones' mother came back to the apartment, but declined to comment on camera. she says her daughter was working as a dental assistant and was studying to be a dental hygienist. family members say jalisa harris who worked at wild

wings was aspiring r&b singer. little bit more about what we've been able to learn here in the last hour or so, kevin reynolds was the father of one of tareqa jones children, back in early february during drop off here at the apartment that the two had got into a fight. she fled the area. he fled the area. then little while later he comes back with a gun. and at that point she calls police, and he is arrested. what we understand about what happened at this bond hearing, according to the spokesman for the state's attorney's office, is that she, tareqa jones that is did not contest, i should say, contested what happened during that assault, and the judge agreed give her reynolds, kevin reynolds, a $20,000 bonds. according to the spokesman, she then posted the 10% that far $20,000, which was $2,000, and then he was released. and again, according to police, and everything we've been able to learn now, rev inch -- kevin reynolds came

released and murdered her along with her half sister. that's what we've learned out here in prince george's county today. >> paul wagner, thank you. fox5 local news in the district tonight where bakery owner is frustrated with police after he says robbers struck his shop twice and police investigation was very slow. >> fox5 tisha lewis live in northwest with more on that story. hey, tisha? >> hey, jim, you know what? we spoke with owner mike, and he said he finally met with police on monday, that is two weeks after the most recent robbery, and two months after the first one. now, he suspects he concludes that there was a slow investigation by police and police in no

with no explanation as to why, said in both instances the crook came in, through the back door, went to the office, and demanded money from the state. he also says it was likely an inside job, because until now, customers were likely unaware this area existed since two robberies, the bakery immediately enhanced surveillance system, made several additional security updates, even so, have moved slow in this case, and have lacked any sense of urge is he. >> it was an aggravated assault inek the first cares, and concluded significant money lost in the second. that's not nearly as important, was simply to the police a robbery, in a rich area of the

basement apartment, at his mother's home, 26 year old aspiring musician, jonathan harris, was strangled, and beaten, in a bloody attack in early december 2014. the prime suspect was convicted of first degree murder monday, after jurors saw this video of dion using the victim's credit cards, with -- within hours of the killing. police later finding these bloody shoes, and the victim's play station, in the suspect's home in temple hills. >> he was my soul. he was my heart. >> lloyd harris had a special bond with his younger brother, when jonathan was 12, and in kidney failure, lloyd gave him one of his own. >> he took the person that i loved the most in this entire world, the person that inspires me to live every day like it is my last, because it is how he lived his live. >> prosecutors say jonathan harris was murdered as pay-back from a jilted girlfriends. >> and under the guides e

going over to the apartment to pick up her effect, she went over there with some other individuals, and during the course of retrieving her own property, the victim in this case was beaten to death by dion, he was strangled, he was suffocated, and in addition to taking her stuff, they took a number of items that belonged to mr. harris. >> harris' girlfriends, samantha parker, was also charged with first degree murder, but she developed brain cancer, and died in jail before she could be put on trial. a third suspect, latoya morgan, pled guilty to driving the get-away car. this case made headlines last year, when a judge allowed suspect to post bond while awaiting trial. harris' mother patricia is a retired montgomery county school teacher. >> this has been a very hard, long journey. but thanks to yesterday's

now to find a new normal. >> dion faces the possibility of life in prison when he is sentenced in may. bob barnard, fox5 local news. accomplished latoya morgan faces to up five years in prison when she is sentenced on fridays. new tonight, maryland court has ruled one of the officers charged in the death of freddie gray can now be ordered to testify against his own colleagues. officer william porter was the first to go to trial over gray's death, trial ended in a hung jury but a judge ruled he could testify against his colleagues, while he waited for a retrial. the trial's of five other office verse been in limbo while appeals court decided whether the ruling would stand. the appeals court's decision means the cases will be sent back to lower court, and those trial can move forward, all six officers face various charges in gray's death when he suffered fatal spinal injury inside baltimore police van last april. >> law makers in maryland are hearing testimony on new law to support children who are victims of child

the bill would extend the statute of limitations, allowing victims to take civil action against their abusers. now, the limit right now is seven years, but under the new law, victims would have up to 20 years to take civil action. advocates argue many victims don't realize the long-term damage of their abuse until they're much older, and with the laws it is now, by that time it, can be too late to sue their abuser. it is a role reversal for prince george's county state attorney's attorney angela alsobrooks. she testified today in support of senate bill 960 during a hearing before the senate judicial proceedings in a committee in annapolis. if it is passed, that bill would add harrassment, animalicious destruction of property to the definition of abuse in connection with domestic violence incidents. >> i show up and bus your windows out in attempt to threaten you, make you feel unsafe in your home. that will should and crime. if you go outside and you're right if you tear your own computer up in the

>> a dangerously close call for a reporter and a photographer in california. the camera was rolling when alex savage had to jump out of the way of that white car. thankfully, both men are okay. savage credits his photographer, who yelled. warning him to get out of the way. police believe the driver of the car may have hit the gas, instead of the brakes, causing the car to veer off on to the sidewalk.

wow very unusual for early march. dullos, 78 degrees, bwi, 77 degrees. and i got a head line this, because while we are expect to go have another real warm day tomorrow, we may break tomorrow's record, and that record is 80 degrees set in 1964. so we may tie it or break it, which means, we're looking at 08 degrees day tomorrow. unbelievable. it is so mild out there. just delightful. i have to say that i had the heat still running in my house, and i had to remind myself that needs to come off. and these windows need to open up. but when you do open those windows, keep in mind the tree political send really running high. i'll have that count coming up a little later, but definitely seeing a lot of trees out there, starting to pollinate, cedar, juniper, elm and maple, according to sue. so it is 73 in d.c. it is 78 in quantico right now. we widen the picture out, plenty more heat on the map. seventy in pittsburgh, i know they just are thrilled about that, even bingham tomorrow, 64. still little chilly for boston

richmond is 77 degrees. so, definitely a wonderful spring preview, courtesy of high pressure off the east coast. sort of a bermuda high for this time of year off in a position we see it in in the summer and that pumps in the south and southwest winds, and bottom line, it is 15 to 30 degrees above normal. even tonight we're going to be above normal at 53 for the low, that's what our average high for the day should be, so clearly, we are in bonus territory, and you know, these types of warm days have a big effect on our flowering trees, as well. and a little while ago we heard some big news from the tidal basin, huge tourist attractions i'll let caitlin roth tell you the big news down at the tidal basin. so glad you got to go outside today too, caitlin. >> high there, see sue, it is beautiful out. before i get to the breaking news, which i know you can get one thing, it is gorgeous, so many people are taking -- taking advantage on this n

werth, on the drive down here i don't think i've seen so many runners, bikers in early march. so it is fabulous weather, just before we got down here we did get winds of big news concerning the cherry blossoms, for that i'm going to bring in the officials. we have spokesperson from the national park service, mike with me here. mike, thanks for joining us. all right, it was expected that the peak cherry blossom date this year would be from march 31 to april 3rd. but that has since changed watch can you tell us? >> that has changed dramatically, glorious weather we're experiencing this week. but the high temperatures, the potential record setting temperatures later this week, have actually forced us to revise the projected peak bloom date. now looking at them being out on march 18th, just ten days from now. >> ten days, march 18th. so we're going to be down here in ten days which is hard to believe when you don't see much blooming. i mean, we have some leaves out there. but i know it does happen very quickly, and we are expecting that to be from the 18th to i believe the 23rd, correct? >> yes, 18th, 23rd, is what we're now

the projected peak bloom period. that's when 70% of the osino trees, the most common variety down here, 7% of the trees are expected to be in bloom. >> you always thought this would be a year where the blooms would occur earlier than normal. what's the average time of the year you see the cherry blossoms bloom. >> average date for peak bloom april 4th each year. last couple years april 10th, year before that april 9th. but for the seven years before that all before april 4th. so we've been sort of seeing historically the date move, creep up little earlier and earlier. we projected this year's peak bloom date, based on 5 degrees warmer than average april, but so far through march we are 9 degrees warmer than usual. and that's what's so dramatically sped up the blooming process. >> thank you, all about the weather, it's been warm winter at times, and of course it has been so unseasonably warm, nearly 08 degrees today. and coming in the next couple of days, thank you so much. and laura, jim, i think you'll be seeing me out here in

in this community, and came up with what they feel is a much better name. that name, hope middle school. that vote is tonight. while board member said she is concerned it might be too late, she is hoping to win over hearts in mind tonight. >> push back i'm get something on process. but then i also have had school members come to me and tell me that they're really excited that the community actually where the middle school is going is very excited, that they've brought it to the community. >> so, here is the situation. right now, that school is only known as ms9. see from this video, the construction on this is only just getting started. it could be more than a year before this school is ready to open. the question is why the rush? it changed out, right now, pleading with loud end county school board to consider hope middle school as the name, and it actually has

significance in that area. there is the mount hope church nearby, and mount hope road. more importantly, though, they say it could compliment community effort to honor childhood cancer patients, and lowden county student like this died back in 2014 as well as other, like decklynn, and agree ella, and mom says too many parents kept telling her that this name, hope middle school, makes perfect sense. >> the feedback that i have gotten personally has been amazing. because people are hoping to see this happen, because it is going to be, like i said, is going to be an inspiring name, and it is going to mean something to not just the cancer community, but all of the families, and their children. >> of course the problem with all of this is time. it is running out. this school board is september to start voting on these names in just about an hour. now, board member maloney said if she can't stall the vote tonight, s

she can appeal to the other board members, since putting a name on the school that has deeper meaning to this community, of course again, there is no rush, the grounds was only just recently broken on this building which will not be open for nearly a year. in lowden county tonight, tom fitzgerald, fox5 local news. >> he is a republican leader, in a very blue state. yet, maryland governor larry hogan remains hugely popular according to recent polls. >> governor currently battling the democratically controlled general assembly over issues like taxes, and education, earlier today, governor hogan held news conference in annapolis, and outlined some of the progress administration has made. but he says, much more needs to be done to keep the state on a sound financial footing, he's proposing legislation that would rain in mandatory spending. >> eighty-three sent out of every dollar is mandated. and can't be touched. our administration introduced the bill to reduce mandated spending

expression, the picture tells a thousand words. and this picture snapped in baltimore last week has stirred up a lot of buzz, and emotion on line. an university of maryland police officer posted this photo on facebook, and it shows a young teen, as you can see, praying over a homeless man. while on patrol, the officer saw people passing that homeless man, and pat him down, well, he thought this teen would do the same thing, but he didn't. instead he saw the teen bend down, and pray, over this man, as he slept. the photo was post add week ago, and it has now been shared 30,000 times. >> this redskins fan, really struggling to come to terms, rj3 is done, in d.c. >> frustration and just plane old sorrow. i just feel so sorry for this

i'm shawn yancy. >> and i'm tony perkins. two women are dead tonight following another case of domestic violence in prince george's county. >> that's right. police say kevin reynolds killed a young mother of three and her sister before turning the gun on himself. the women were gunned down last night and neighbor say the 5-year-old daughter witnessed the entire thing. >> reporter: this is such a tragic story with a lot of moving parts. what we know is that back in early february kevin reynolds was accused of assaulting tarika jones here at this apartment complex. he was locked up and stayed locked up for several weeks until just last week when there was a bond review. and according to a spokesperson for the state's attorney office, tarika jones went to that bond hearing and when the bond was reduced to that $20,000, she paid it. last night around 10:30
