we really had a big change in this whole entire weekend and it's no exception this hour at all. let's take a look at the maps and i'll show you exactly what i'm talking about. and yes, jim, you're absolutely right. talking about some snow flakes being mixed in. rain, even a little bit of sleet. and definitely we've got some light snow. some of that primarily to the north of us into the northwest because of the cold air that's filtered in. but it is continuing and we will see this tapering off tonight but not before you do get a little look at the last little shout of winter. everything in pink has a little bit of the mix. it's all going to continue to move through tonight heading off to the northeast. our overnight temperatures will be in the 30s and right now it is 39 degrees. we've got a light northerly wind at about 10 miles per hour. as this tapers off tonight as i said t g

temperatures, especially into the early hours of tomorrow morning. now i do anticipate seeing this tapering off before dawn at least. right now it's 39 degrees at dc, 40 at quantico, 37 at culpeper, 39 at winchester this hour, baltimore at 37 and that's the same for frederick. so your overnight lows into the 30s. in some areas we will be flirting just below freezing as you can see to the north of us, where we've got some low 30s and 29s where you're seeing the snow right now. but it's light in nature and only accumulation will be agrassy surfaces. no shoveling here. 33 degrees your overnight low. it will all start to taper off. we've got a light wind pushing in. the winds will change for your monday. we've got some strong winds to talk about. we will have sunshine and drier conditions. but the good news is, yes, it has finally arrived. even though it doesn't look like it or feel like it right now. but that will change with my

those details a little later. >> fox 5 is in prince george's county where people gathered at the scene of the shoot out. >> and detective colson was mistaken for a suspect and killed by friendly fire. how officer colson was remembered tonight. >> reporter: one week after a shootout that happened here outside of the third district police station in prince george's county, hundreds of people gathered for a candle light vigil. and at exactly 4:30, the moment the attack began, they hold a moment of silence for fallen detective jacai colson. somber moments outside of the prince george's county third district police station. the place where a 28-year-old undercover detective was killed. detective colson's family joined his law enforcement family wi

candles in their hands, and tears in their eyes, they prayed. >> it's day to day. you know, you hear this all the time, people say he's the best guy in the world. but genuinely the nicest guy in the world. >> reporter: police say 22-year-old michael ford opened fire on passing cars outside of the station in an effort to lure officers into a gun fight. something he accomplished. and something that cost 28-year-old detective jacai colson his life. colson was killed by friendly fire, because he was mistaken for a suspect when he tried to intervene in the shootout. >> it's truly like losing a brother and a sister. there's a whole range of emotions that we go through. but when we do remember ceremonies like this are very important for us to come out and participate. it helps with our healing process. >> reporter: this woman's husband was one of the responding officers to the

she says being a police officer's wife is now harder than ever. >> it's very scary. i don't want him out of my sight. i wish he could just jump into a new career easily. this is where his hard is. >> know that we will never forget. wrap your arms around one another. together as a family and a community we will get through this. >> reporter: services for detective colson will happen over the next few days. the family has asked that his funeral remain private. reporting in prince george's county, alexandra limon, fox 5 local news. >> and flags across indiana are flying half staff to pay tribute to a sheriff's deputy killed in the line of duty. the deputies were attempting to survey warrant. when the two deputies knocked on the door of the mobile home, no one responded so the

went inside. that's when the suspect opened fire. >> reporter: deputy carl kuntz was one of our family. these people standing with me, they are his family. and we thank you very much for the time to be able to tell the public about carl and that carl will be missed. >> a s.w.a.t. team returned fire and he died. >> new information about catherine hoggle. she is being treated at a psychiatric hospital. after a judge determined she was incompetent to stand trial but today the washington post says she has tried to escape at least eight times. her children have not been seen since september of 2014. she was charged with neglect,

obstructing justice. we are watching history unfold no cuba tonight. president obama and his family are now in havana. >> he's the first sitting president in nearly 90 years to visit the island nation. tisha lewis has a closer look at what the visit means for the two countries. >> reporter: this historic trip's meaning all depends who you ask. we spoke with a first generation cuban american who says the trip is a good thing. while his wife, who was born in cuba, was less enthusiastic. even people with no connection at all to the island nation are weighing in as well. history is happening now in cuba, and robert and his wife have plenty to say about it. >> i think it's a good thing having an american president going in there. >> reporter: fernandez is a first generation cuban-american and his wife was born in cuba. >> i haven't gone back to cuba since i came to this country. >> would you visit now?

so that's what whole combination moving through our area and will continue to move through until we get into the overnight hours. here's a closer look for you and the pink is where we have that mixture going on. as far as the surface is concerned it's too warm for this to have impact. we are talking about it sticking on grassy surfaces but we could see this all changing into that light snow before it's all said and done tonight. temperatures all up and down the mid atlantic into the 30s and 40s and that's not going to change much. we are going to see our overnight lows lingering into the 30s tonight and here's a look at your current temperatures. 39 at dc, 37 at baltimore, dulles at 39. we've got 37 at frederick and that's the same with 39 to the south. so 33 don't for your overnight low, we're going to see this gradually start to taper off and that's some good news and as we take a look ahead, guess what? the 70s.

neighborhood. it was miserable. what can you do? >> did not look like the first day of spring. but it was raining and that's what happens in the spring, right? >> i'm in the witness protection program. >> you do have the nice spring color. >> i had to do something. i'm going to talk about some of the snow tonight. let's get to it because i'm going to break the news to you ever so gently. just the messenger folks. just the messenger. today was dreary. we had cloudy skies and this evening we saw a lot more of the rain moving in and even now we're seeing, take a look, here we go. we've got some of the snow here and we've got a little bit of the mix as well. there was a little bit of sleet mixed in in some of our neighborhoods and i saw some of that myself so i'm sure you've experienced that as well. but this is all going to move through tonight and start to taper off by the time we get to just before dawn. so it's not going to be sticking around for a long extended period of time, but just enough to be a little bit of

nuisance. the good news is it's happening overnight and not during commute. here's where we have the rain and the snow mixed together, we have the rain and light snow to the north but the good news is also, i'm happy to say good news, because it's going to be accumulating and has accumulated mainly on grassy surfaces and surface temperatures are just a little too warm for it to cause an issue. there will be the odd spot here and there where you might have a little bit of ice but it's not wide spread at all. so rain and some snow mix, possibly we've already seen it north and northwest of dc but no accumulation as i mentioned, tapers off in the overnight hours and lingering early predawn i can't rule out a sprinkle or so but then it will be out of the way and we've got some sunshine by the time we get to the afternoon tomorrow and most of monday. take a look at this. isn't this great. he says i'm not saying cheese but this one is out there looking for food and

temperatures there below freezing as well. then we go the other way because we've got warm air pushing in by the time we get to hump day. we're going to head to 70s. by thursday we'll be into the mid 70s and then you'll thank me. 50 degrees as we head to tomorrow. some clouds, mostly sunny and windy and here's a look at your fox 57-day forecast. take a look. thursday, not bad. 74 degrees. it's going to be actually spectacular. look at all the temperatures everywhere. they're going to be very mild. 55 degrees by the time we hit next week. we're back to a little bit still above the seasonal average but not bad at all. but once we get past the cooler conditions monday night into tuesday, we've got that warm weather and spring definitely will be right in place where it does belong. okay? marina? >> looking forward to wednesday. in tonight's health watch, the fda has approved a new lab test
