at the right moment. you can see the hail coming down. here's the picture that rina snapped. we have team coverage of the severe weather. let's start off with sue palka for the latest. >> we're still getting live reports of fear weather, not only did we just have a severe thunderstorm expire in some of our eastern communities suburbs east of dc but ongoing now, we have a new problem, and that is flash flooding. several rounds the rain started about 5:00 this afternoon, one storm blew up in prince william county and that produced hail over many counties. we're going to start with the latest. we dropped a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for prince george's county, but a flash flood warning still in effect until 12:30 for montgomery. at the moment, not as much rain over dc, but look to the eastern suburbs. lightening and as i get in

across the bay over to the eastern shore going to produce quite a light show for you folks tonight. there's still more to the south. i think the rain that is coming up from the south is going to trend a little bit south and east of dc but we're not off the hook yet. i just have to show you some submission of the rain we've had in 24 hours, unbelievable. you can see why montgomery county had ongoing water rescues including golds borrow road area and massachusetts and other areas, we're estimating almost four inches of rain fallen south and east of rockville. all of those yellow areas indicating three inches of rain just tonight and it may not be over. or a area that's been hit hard is charles county. you have the hail, a tornado warning for about 45 minutes, late this evening, we did not get a report of a tornado touching down but we certainly saw huge hail which caitlin will show you in a moment and you can see all of that rain over to the eastern shores. needless to say, we're not off the hook. rain

there could be a light rain still occurring in the eastern suburbs for the morning commute. i'll take you hour by hour through the next 12 hours of rain in just a few minutes. i want to do send this down to caitlin, reports of baseball or golf ball size hail unusual for this area. >> you even said in your 30 years of doing weather here, you don't remember a time where you seen widespread large hail. and so yeah, it is just remarkable that we saw so much of it across the area earlier this afternoon. of course, so many pictures that you sent in to us through twitter, facebook on fox 5 dc.com we appreciate them. let's start with maryland. you can why there was a tornado warning attached to a storm that produced a shelf cloud this ominous. thankfully we only have anything that was reported as tornadoic not even close, these images were very ominous coming out of la plata thanks kathleen for that and diana for the second. that green color inside the shelf cloud also indicative

large hail. that's exactly what we saw across southern maryland today. hail came far and wide from whether southern maryland or north of dc in montgomery county and howard county and we saw various people holding the huge hail stone ping-pong ball to baseball. that's over two and a half inches inches in did i yes, ma'am meter. this storm went up over manassas and starting producing the hail and that continued all the way across into southern maryland places likes waldorf, la plata into it's chester speak, highly unusual for this area. we saw hail stones rocksberg good faithersberg, howard county. these are storm reports of all the hail we've seen across the area a basically throughout the past 24 hours. and a lot of them were over an inch in size. the biggest ones we'll show you quick down towards waldorf, that

that were over two inches in size. there you go by saint charles baseball size hail over two inch, we will have more pictures and reports coming up at 11. send it tobacco upstairs to sean and jim. fox 5 is in prince george's county, police are investigating homicide in brandywine, a man's body was found in the middle of the road along lafayette boulevard. fox 5 marina marraco has the latest. >> reporter: this afternoon's homicide investigation happened at this home here in the glen, it's a neighborhood that's just off of route five here in brandywine. it happened on this road here approaching the dead end, but before the wooded area. that's where police found a man in the middle of the road, shot and police would not say how many times or whether he was shot on the road here or his body dumped. >> right now, detectives are looking at all possibilities. determinin

happened here. it's an ongoing investigation. our detectives are looking into every scenario possible right now. >> the victim's family too distraught to speak. trying to cross the crime scene tape and were able to positively identify the victim. a sad day for that family. police still looking for anyone with any sort of information that may lead to the killer or killers. there's up to a 25 thousand dollars reward for any information that will lead to an arrest. in brandywine maryland marina marraco fox 5. concerns continue to grow about the quality of water in dc public schools. more schools being added to the list of places where lead was found in the water. >> coming up, we're learning more about yesterday's train derailment in the district. accident is larger than thought. we'll have the details ahead. virginia governor executive action to help more people. some people think it's dirty

. oh nor fall-out after high levels of lead were found in drinking water. >> 12 schools were impacted but we're finding there were more, fox 5 lindsey w atts has been following the story. >> reporter: parents have been talking to at wilson elementary school are outraged. they're school was not included on that list of 12 schools with high lead levels. even though a drinking fountains were found to be more than three times the acceptable level of lead. parents just don't understand why their kids were needlessly put at risk and the continued lack of communication. >> our school is for the on the list, even though our school i was tested in august, 2015 like the other schools. when we asked about that, you know, we continued to kind of be stone-walled. we don't get the answers we need. we just assumed that there are probably other schools like us out there. unfortunately for them,

still not know about it. >> we've been going how to the records. and have found in addition to the 12 schools identified by dc leaders, there are about half dozen additional schools that had high lead tests since the start of 2015. the biggest issue here for parents some of the lead tests were from so long ago, and this is only now coming to light. the department of general services, the agency in charge of the test, admits to dropping the ball and not notifying schools about the test. in some cases, not following proper steps to shut off the bad water right away. now, they're testing water in every single public school in dc for lead. we were there as the process got underway last week, meanwhile, parents have a lot of remaining questions about who knew what and when. also, why they should believe this won't happen again. >> we haven't gotten answers to a lot of our specific questions. dcps answered questions, not

dgs, i think they have to come to the table and have to have real answers. >> reporter: other new information for you tonight. a dgs spokesman tells me that the results from the new tests now underway at dc schools should be out either today or tomorrow. we're going to be testing all of the results. the new ones and those from the past two years on fox 5 dc.com so they will be easy for you to find there. we're also going to be staying on top of dgs to get answers to parents' questions and also find out

area. the good news you mentioned there were no serious injuries. you're driving along late at night. sometimes this can be hard to see, are streets blocked off and what is your advice to folks out there driving? >> in fact, i experienced some of that myself. i was on the beltway and did have high water and simply storm drainage seemed to get overwhelmed and had a lot of gutter or urban flooding. it is difficult to see in some cases. if you are able to see the moving water, certainly turn around, don't drown. most people know those areas that are susceptible to flooding, we hope you voids those areas. seems as though the storm is done for the moment. but don't go into any kind of high water. we have a number of roads that have been closed and blocked. we closed some roads when we know storms are coming proactive. sometimes on highway closed roads but police have been busy. we have blocked off a number of intersections. major intersections are closed as

mill road where he experience flooding. if you want to come closer. tell me, what you experienced. >> i was driving home from school. newport mill road as the light turned, i crossed over. i didn't see a lot of water. as soon as i crossed over a big wave came at me and my car shut off. >> reporter: you said you live over here. had you ever seen anything like this before? . >> no, this is actually my first time seeing water like this. >> what was going through your mind when you were experiencing that? what were you thinking. >> i was just -- i just wanted if get home because i was already so close. i was kind of frustrated that my car didn't shut off two blocks away. >> reporter: were you afraid that also, you know, it could be dangerous for yourself as well. >> i was scared maybe cars are coming down, would have not seen me with all the water in the way, might have hit me as well. i was kind of like slanted in between two lanes when it

thank goodness firefighters came by and pushed me off. >> reporter: i know you guys are trying to get your vehicle out of here. his family members showed up. you're going to try to push it along as best you can. this is the problem. when the water goes away and people are stranded. it's a dangerous situation as well. we think about with the rising water. also, once that water goes away, do be careful. look for those blinkers and flashing lights on these vehicles. it's still very dangerous out here. after that water reseeds, a lot of it going around montgomery county tonight. tobacco to you. >> thank you very much. developing tonight in the district clean-up is underway after a freight train derailed. more cars than they originally thought went off the track, first they thought 15 car, no you 16. they have yet to determine the cause. crews are making progress and clearing the site, they apparently have quite a bit of hazardous materials

>> at this point, 15 of the 16 cars that were involved in the derailment have been returned to wheels, and will be removed from the site so we can get on with removing the soil that was impacted by the leak of sodium hydroxide from the one tank car that leaked. >> in addition to removing the soil, we're told csx will also be rebuilding the rail bed. now, as a result of mark brunswick line. the trains 892, 878 and 880, all trains will terminate in silver springs and passengers may transfer at rock borrow or silver springs. they will make all stops. for mower information check out mta's website. >> metro is adding 24/7 fire department liaison to make sure the rail system is prepared for fire emergencies comes less than two weeks after a fire broke out

metro says the uniformed fire officer will be stationed at the control center around the clock. staffing more than double the hours. a fire liaison is stationed at that control center. we've an update now on a story you saw first on fox 5. we now know what killed a 17-year-old high school student. she died of a suspected overdose tobacco in march. the virginia medical examiner confirmed she died from a combinatn of prescription drugs and alcohol. oxycodone morphine and a sedative used to treat anxiety were found in her system. county leaders were hold a town hall tomorrow. >> you have a prescription drug and heroin problem in our community. we have it in the nation. it's a public health crisis. we need to do what we can to address it and it's sad when we have a life that's lost like that. >> the county supervisor says he will push to get drug councils tobacco into high school, the

. a muslim woman accusing a trump supporter of attacking her outside of a star bucks in dc. now an advocacy group calling for an investigation, it happened over a week on connecticut avenue. the council on american islamic relations said i'm voting to donald trump and started shouting obscenities. when police got there, they told her the

covered under freedom of speech. the suspect then poured an unknown liquid over her head. investigators say the incident is being invested as a hate crime. republican law makers are fighting back to allow more than 200 convicted felons to vote. also allows convicted felons to run for office and serve on jury. they say the governor overstepped his authority, they say it was a political move to get hillary clinton to get votes. he argued people who serve their time should be given a second chance to exercise their civic duty. the fbi is search fog re a serial bank robber alexandria say they say man hit -- they also think he hit bank ten days earlier. agency is offering up an award that lead to an arrest and conviction. if you have any

ruptured water and sewer line, many were out of their home for months, prince george's county they were there to celebrate the reopening of the community. >> good news for them. we've got another -- another round of weather come through the evening. my goodness, i stepped outside for just a second. right outside the back door, there's a little puddle. it was just like. >> it should be not only a lot of water on the ground and the concern for flooding going forward overnight. is it cooler out there too. >> yes. >> that's going to be tomorrow. i think it will still deal with rain in the morning, i think the thunder is pushing away. it's mostly east. we're still finding warm air. we got the cooler air coming in. the main concern is flooding. just a couple of minutes ago, another flood warning came out and this is going to be for small streams in the northwest portion of dc and southeastern montgomery county and the problem will be that heavy rain may cause flooding along rock creek and rock creek parkway. that will be in

overnight. let's start with the weather headlines. while some of the oh western areas aren't seeing as much rain now and most of the thunderstorms have pushed to the east. we will have areas of rain overnight. looks like the heaviest will remain south and east. lighter rain for the morning commute. still wet. probably off and on till the noon hour. it will also be much cooler tomorrow. here is the flash flood warning that remainses in montgomery county and especially south of rockville where we are evaluating over three inches of rain may have fallen. this is a different thing. green area is a flood warning because streams and creeks are going to fill up. that goes until 1:30. include northwest washington and that small portion of montgomery county. the problem being rock creek. looks like that water is going to be running real high short term. heads up if you live along rock creek. as mentioned most of the thunderstorms moved to the east. still lightening crossing the bay and over to delaware. we're not seeing as much rain to the north. unfortunately, as we get in on some of this heavier acti

areas that got hit really hard earlier this evening with heavy rain and also tremendous reports of hail. if you didn't see the hail pictures, we're going to show them to you again at 11:00. meanwhile, as we follow this kind of train of moisture that's around our area, it's not done yet. we still have more rain in the pipeline and this goes all the way down to the gulf of mexico. what should you expect? futurecast is doing a good job. here's what's showing us more rain develops overnight. thunderstorms may go away. light rain will replace it. more rain on saturated ground including at 8:00 in the morning, we'll still have to be watching and monitoring for the possibility of flooding because the ground is now like a sponge too full of water and anything else that comes on top of it may just come on out. looks like for internet state 81, the rain should be over at 8:00 in the morning, by the time we get to 1:00. most pu

i don't think tomorrow is as wet in the afternoon but there will be scattered showers around but much cooler for us tomorrow and it should be 79, not 779 in dulles, reagan 76 and dwi 72. look after that high of 71 in dulles, we're down to 65 and 62 here in the district. 61. we're back in the 60's because the air you see is going to push in behind a frontal boundary, we'll have more showers tomorrow, especially in the morning, front will get to our south, weak waves of low pressure will continue to ride along it. we'll have dry periods wednesday. a second front coming. we'll also promote another round of showers, we've gone from being too dry to now just a little too wet. amazing how things can change quickly. the busstop tomorrow morning, 46 to 63. light showers, after school not expecting thunderstorms but maybe some few hit or miss showers. 65 to 70.
