f >> reporter: quite dramatic and chaotic. let meere the second shooting happened today, where a woman was shot and killed. >> this after three people were shot at montgomery mall just few minute before that. now, few hours later, just around 3:00, we're told that officers tactical officers undercover officers had spotted that suspect, at dunkinh is on the other side connecticut bond this shell station that you can see in the picture here. that is where they spotted him. and we actually spoke to a member of that tactical team who told us they were keeping a very close eye on him and his movements for at least 20 minutes before they finally moved in on him, but where
5:01 pm
arrest actually happened, was in thispa custody. take a look at this video, because we were live on the air, my photographer and i were standing on some stairs, with a high vantage point of the area. we saw those officers rushing to the other shopping center with their weapons drawn. they were looking at us, telling us to get down and get out of the way now it is because we could have potentially been in the crossfire if there had been any shots fired. we now know 62 year old eulalio tordil was taken into custody in this parking lot at that time. once the activity calmed down a bitty was able to approach and i saw t

into handcuffs behind thear that for, in cuffs, and i can tell you he looked calm. he wasn't fighting the situation, he wasn't trying to get away, he wasn't combative toward the officers. he had his head down, i was able to snap that photo. that's when he was very quickly taken in to custody. i would say from the time those officers returned across the street from the giant, to the time when he was apprehended and it was kind of done with, it was a quick, i don't know, one minute, and at that point that's when they took him into custody, just few minutes, after that, very quickly, they confirmed it was tordil that they had arrested here, and that they believe that he is responsible for the deadly shooting at the giant here in aspen hill as well as the other deadly shooting that happened this morning at the montgomery mall where one man was killed, and another two people were injured. they are also thinking this is all connected to yesterday's deadly shooting at high point

allegedly shot, who had taken out a protective order, last month, guys. that's the latest we have from this scene. >> all right, alex, thank you. >> our coverage continues now with where today's shootings all began, outside montgomery mall. >> fox5's paul wagner joins us live from the mall with more. >> paul? when we heard the call go out we came here to the scene very, very quickly. it was still an evolving scene, and the scene was rid here behind me. what you could see was there was a lot of material. what appeared to be clothing, some bags on the ground, also, some bio hazardous material from paramedics apparently had been trying to help the people wounded here on the scene watch we understand from police is that the three people were shot. and when police first briefed us, they told
5:04 pm
person was being assaulted, person were then shot. we now know that one man is dead, one woman has non-life threatening injuries, and that third person, another man, is in grave condition at this hour. police very, very quickly, were able to determine that this may have been connected, to the shooting over at high point high this is why we know this now. at his news conference, we know from a witness that i spoke to here, man named jose gomez, eating lunch in his truck, after the shooting took place, there was a plane clothe officer who was in the area and on the scene very, very quickly. witnesses were able to tell this officer what the vehicle looked like, and that vehicle then was put out in a be on the look-out to other montgomery county police officers in the area. we then started to try and connect the dot. and we learned that there was
5:05 pm
this scene and the one that a good samaritan, someone coming to the help of anotherpe sh q uickly started to determine that they had some kind after connection between those two cases. now, here at the scene, the police closed off a large area, of course, they started putting markers down, and investigating what they had here. the mall stayed open, including the macy's here behind me. and when we first pulled up on the scene, there weren't many people standing around. it was somewhat unusual in that and perhaps the rain had something to do with it, but we didn't see a lot of people in an emotional state, upset, angry, didn't see any witnesses that were on the scene, and it wasn't until little while ago that i was able to find that witness, mr. gomez. and mr. gomez sak

from chief manewant to tell but what transpired earlier today. my photographer and i, nelson jones, we were basically dispatched to basically go around this area, and just keep an eye out. we saw police all over the place. and we even in the dollars behind the shopping center, see the michael's here, well, on the other side, we noticed police with shields, they had guns, and we wondered why that was happening. well it, turns out, couple of hours later, right here, in the parking lot, that is where it all went down. and we're learning more details that the suspect had been here for quite a while, about an hour or so behind me right here is the boston market, we're told that he ate here, also, down at the dunkin' donuts, which if you can look past these reporters standing here, you'll see the dunkin' donuts. so, we believe that authorities were in this area. they were actually keeping their eye on

presu hd in i want you to take a the police chief right now. take a listen. >> we had description of suspect from the homicide last night that was in that vehicle and the plane clothes officer spotted that individual at the dunkin' donuts, in the north gate shopping center, in aspen hill. they had this individual under surveillance, and when the individual walk back to his car, the plane clothes officers were able to take him into custody without incident. >> all right, also, as you might imagine, when we all converged on the scene, alexandra lamoan, there were many reporters here. a lot of people were in this parking lot. a lot of people witnessed what went on. i want you to take

5:10 pm
>> all he behind me. the car was towedaw remember, fox5 back 2002, we remember when the sniper was on the loose, and everyone was so concerned. that feeling, i think a lot of people had that feeling, at least witnesses we talked to today, and what is really, really ironic is that here is where the john muhammad apparently had dinner here or lunch here at the boston market that day, also, the site the first shooting, and this is where it all happens again. is it a coincidence? was it planned? at this point,

know. ge this afternoon, and then they'llik police chief said they weren't quite sure if it was indeed a coincidence or it was the fact that he was from that area and just came back, to a place that was familiar, but it will be interesting to find out. >> the similarities, like you said, are erie, and whether it is a coincidence or not, but you will have to get inside the minds of this man to know what he was thinking, and if he did know. but, if he did have a plan there, but it does bring back 2001. >> the questions are reasonable. >> absolutely. they sure are. >> we're going to continue our coverage of the events that happened today after the break. >> but first,
