the name of safety. >> anthony fox said he's seriously considering shutting down metro. it shows what appears to be sparks on a third rail insulator at the courthouse station p.o the trains were forced turo sine track through this area. of course who could forget this incredible video from theom federal metro station last week, an explosion lit up the platfor right after a train passed by. . get to the root of the problem or he will shutdown d.c.'s rail system. today metro's general manager paul wiedefeld summoned all 650l metro managers for a safety sa meeting in rockville. each manager was given a flyer a that reads, quote, safety trumps service. during the meeting, wet field m set expectations for his employees that promotes safety and accountability. in metro's

is the first time a safety meeting has been mandated for all managers. ma all of the recent incidents on metro made us wonder if other rail transit systems deal withih similar issues. teisha lewis is here with a comparison between our system and the new york subway system. >>reporter: if you're talking about our system and new york's, what we can tell you is that their transit authority sayssi that there were no derailments in the past year and no safety-related shut downs. compare that to what's going on here in the district. we did talk to some folks who have experience with both systems and it depends on who you ask on their experience. despite this most recent video showing yet another fire on d.c.'s metro rail stephanie k hasn't given up hope yet. there has been a lot of hiccups. it

his car through the front of a macy's store.tor the man then stabbed two peopleo at the mall before an off-duty police officer shot and killed the suspect. two of the stabbing victims weit are told have died. but authoritieeds have not said whether the victims were at thei home or at the. again this is in a town called taunton in massachusetts. mas > well, neighbors in princeei george's county are still trying to adjust to a brand new trashrh pickup struggle. it's caused confusion and left d plenty of bags of trashf compiling up in some communities many the county also extended contracts for the companies to pick up the trash for another fr five years. marina maracco has been taken a closer look at what this all means. she's life in hyattsville tonight with the latest. >>reporter: there's definitely questions asth to how some of so these companies have obtained their contracts here in the county. meanwhile residents here at hyattsville, you can see the trash continues to pile up. u some of them say they simply

trash and others say the l hauliers just haven't showed up. they changed the days and didn't let us know? prince george'sknw county residents are still adjusting to a new trash pickup routine down from two days a day week to just one. by hanging on our door and i got the pg sign we're taking it serious. door signs corresponding to thee new schedulspe went out to more than 160,000 homes. ho overall it's gone very smoothly. most areas have had no problems at all. > although the county has received 2,000 complaints in thm last week and say hauliers have missed pickup in 2 percent of 2p the homes. during the first month of transition, it's a grace period because we knew that it would be extremely complicated.ted. there are now 15 hauliers that will share the responsibility of picking up trash and recycle materials one day a week. two of the companies, bates trucking will account for nearlr 40 percent of the county's trash pickup. both companies and their

presidents have controlled nearly $20,000 to baker's campaigns since 20162016, there was no bidding process. no and the county says it's it' legal as long as the 15 companies agreed that bates trucking and good would take a large chunk of the business servicing 30,000 homes each and others would just pick up at a couple thousand homes. they're not shell companies, ifp you will, for the other haulers? >> no. not to my knowledge.. > now county executivery shawn baker sent fox5 a statement which reads, the baker administration has always prioritized making sure that specifically minority businesses are competitive for contracts with prince george's county. furthermore, the decision to de extend these contracts as well as approval of the contracts con themselves were all approved in

we've had nearly two straightd weeksne of rain and it keeps kee coming. we are on track to shatter an 80-year record with consecutive days with at least a trace of of rain. lindsay watts is more right now with more of this miserable rain streak. my question is, is it raining out there still? reporter roar it's been drizzling on and off d here at the tidal basin. nothing too bad.g to we are seeing people walkingalk around. a lot of people over at the thomas jefferson memorial. earlier today it was clear, blue skies for hours and locals and tourists alike were outside taking advantage of that knowing more rain was right around the corner. >> the clouds parted and the sunshine came
