fda headquarters outside the us transportation department in southwest, hey, tom? >> reporter: well, we were outside fda headquarters, the department of transportation, however, we have moved over here, to stadium armory, the reason, we got word in the last hour, there was yet another power problem. this time, behind us. dc fire and ems were on the scene. the smoke was cleared, we are told now trains, the blue line, are single tracking between here and addison road. now becomes that directive, this came down today directly from the fda administrator. it says, in essence, that before metro can do anything about this new safe track program that was available, just days ago, that they're forced, going to have to pay an immediate attention to three areas at f d.a. says needs immediate

the washington council of government's trying to brief them on the urgency of this problem. after that meeting, the board chairman says that when it comes to this shut-down, he says, possibly if it comes to it he agrees with transportation secretary anthony fox. >> if secretary fox believes that it is unsafe, i am in agreement with him, as you saw before, paul, myself, and the board have, no reservations about shutting down the system. if it is not safe. we are not sending trains out there. and putting people in danger, so again, if the secretary believes it is unsafe, we have communication with them, and are able to verify that, no problem. we want to show this video here. this gives you a idea of the height ends awareness and concerns of passengers, although, some of this may be misplaced. the view today contacted us about what they saw at electrical sparking of the national airport metro station. we were, tre

there, we saw it. we contacted metro, then they explained that that is, in fact, normal, as trains move from one rail to another, that they're on opposite sides, you will see that kind of sparking. but, we will adhere on our own, given what's been going on, you can certainly understand why passengers would have concerns about all of this. now, moving forward, for its part, metro tonight out with its own statement, saying, they have received the fta's statement from the administrator, they understand immediate changes are needed to this new safe track program. they say they'll consider this. they will have that in place by may 16th. that's when all of this is supposed to be finalized. incidentally, we're supposed to meet metro new safety chief tomorrow when the bottom will meet and talk about safe at the. live at stadium armory tonight, tom fitzgerald, fox5 local news. new tonight, the man accused of stabbing and killing

the metro station, has been indicted by a grand jury. nineteen year old jasper spiers was indicted on first degree murder as all the, dates back to july 4th, fires attempt topped rob souter lands on the metro, set to be arraigned on friday. he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. to prince william county, woman killed in woodbridge was suspect in a strong armed robbery less than an hour earlier. police say they responded to call for a robbery around 12:30 yesterday morning. when they arrived, female victim told them she had met a man and his girlfriend. moments later, a fight broke out among the group. the female victim claims the girlfriend stole her phone. the victim told police, both of the suspects got away on their bicycles, then, while police were investigating the robbery they got call for hit-and-run less than 2 miles away.

because our groundhog day cycle continues, and while this isn't wettest month we've ever seen, stretch of 15 days in a row with quarter inch here, and .10 of an inch there can really start to add up and get on your nerves, now we've had about 3 inches of rain just in the first 11 days of may. so that's above average for rainfall, although, no where near last june, when we had almost 12 inches every rain, one of the wettest months ever. here's what's going on right now, we've had fairly steady light rain, that's in the process of pushing away to the northeast, but still, one more little batch that you can see here, that is moving through portions of northwest dc and very soon that will also be on its way. now, we're also keeping a close eye, some of the southern and western suburbs, look down around charlottesville. while the bulk of the heavier rain, you can see the spin with the area of low pressure, pushing away. there are still stronger thunderstorms that we keep in the forecast south and west of dc. but, for the rest of us, i think drying trends is on the way. and we're going to see not a lot of change later tonight,

that we're in with the stalled out boundary and the persistent east wind loading us up on clouds and fog. the thunder suppressed down to the south and west, but check out these temperatures, really get the idea that we're so, so socked in here. dc is 59. it is 74 in new york city. seventy-one in pit burying, where i am sure they are still celebrating, 80 in raleigh, 77 in hatteras, hey, thinking about heading out to see the nats tonight, i don't expect any problems with rain to be sure it will feel damp. there might be little bit of drizzle, first pitch temperatures about 59. and it really stays fairly stable. they should be able to get that game in. so, yes, little bit more of the same tomorrow. not as wet but a lot more clouds. some brighter days though are beginning to show up on the seven day forecast. it is not like we're going to go without rain, but at least have several hours in which the sun could make appearance starting this weekends, czar, a laura, more on that in a few minutes. >> sue, thanks. coming up: shocking new warning for parents tonight. a child, light up shoes, catches fire,

for those at risk. >> whether a product isn't safe for years, it is easy to forget to re-read lake every time. >> now, families say there should have been a press release and bigger media push by the company to get the words out. kel eggs sent me a statement late today about 30 minutes ago, the company would not say why it is making this change, but it did say it believes it communicated ahead of time, and it does believe the change will be clear on the label. in light of these complaints, the company says, it has decided that starting in september, it will make one brand their grilled cheese crackers without peanut products. many families says it adds to the confusion trying to figure out which one is safe. kellogg's is a reminder you should check the label each time no matter what product you are eating. >> it makes it so radically confusing for everybody. think about for who don't have allergies, serving it to a child with allergies? dining their. >> so many allergies again with peanut, like why would

thanks, jen. a family believes their son's light up sneakers sparked a fire in the back seat of their car. >> crazy, the parents bought the jake and the never lands pirates light up shoes at pay less in texas last fall. and they left his shoes in the car this past friday night. well, when the family went to the car on saturday morning, they say the back seat was charred, take a look, and the wires were sticking out of the shoes. the local fire marshall is investigating now, and pay less has stopped selling the shoes. wow. in a statement, pay less says it pulled the shoes out of abundance of caution, until the claim can be thoroughly accepted. the shoe store says safety is always a priority, and they are taking the claim very seriously. crazy. >> had no idea those little light up shoes could do something like that. >> more studies show the benefit of meditation. reducing stress, increasing happiness, slowing aging, and i am proving health. well, there is also proof it can help kids improve focus

who treated the singer twice before he died. the los angeles times obtained search warrant identifying doctor michael todd schull end berg, specialize in the family medicine, he told police he saw prince the day before his death, and had prescribed a medication. the singer was supposed to fill the prescription, but it is unclear if he did. the doctor arrived at paysly park the next day with test results, only to find that prince was dead. >> home formerly owned by prince is now on the market. you could own this villa for a cool 5.9 million bucks in the southern part of spain, includes six bedrooms, six bathrooms, and terrace that looks out on to the valley and the mediterranian sea there in that area. the fact that the home once belonged to prince makes it even more valuable, of course. the music legend says the property in 1998 then sold it in 2006. perhaps if we all go together it could be the new fox5 retreat?

penalties of ten years in prison. the 2013 fertilizer plant explosion in west texas that killed 15 people is now a criminal investigation. today it was announced arson is the cause of that explosion. investigators say, they determined the fire was deliberately set after hundreds of interviews examining witness photos and forensic testing. the blast also wounded 300 people, and destroyed more than 500 homes. the atf is offering a $50,000 reward for information lead to go arrest in the case. it was supposed to be a drill to help prepare law enforcement for terror i am. now, british police are apologizing for having a mock suicide bomber shout ala during the exercise. manchester police say it was unacceptable to use that religious phrase, during the anti-terror drill at shopping mall. the mock operation was based on recent attacks carried out by isis, and it was designed to test the response of emergency teams.
