for us tonight. >> reporter: tony and sean, it's any parents' worst neighbor. you think your child is a school. then you find your little one was on a school bus that had reportedly had two adults on board, a bus driver and an attendant. somehow both missed the mark. >> i thought i was going to die. i thought, i thought it was a dream, but -- but it wasn't. >> that's 7-year-old, he got on the bus around 7:30 this morning, his mother said she received a phone call more than three hours later, saying antonio was left on the bus and just arrived to school. a good samaritan talked him to the school after the young boy woke up startled. he pried the doors open to get out. he was discovered walking around in a parking lot. >> he could have passed away

up and pried the bus open, he could have been kidnapped. i was just scared. once he isn't in my care, he's in there care, i'm thinking he's at school. what if he warneded off. >> that was his mother now the office of the state superintendent of education e-mailed us this statement saying it is currently investigating an incident that occurred this morning. we take student safety very seriously and immediately investigate all incidents. because this is an open investigation, we cannot is expound on the matter. they went on to say they won't comment on personnel matters when i asked what if any disciplinary action the bus driver and the attendant face, antonio's mother says this is not the first incident she's had with the bus driver. she tells me friday, the bus came almost 30 minutes early to pick antonio up. she complained. of then this happened damage she's concerned antonio was left on the bus

tisha lewis fox 5 local news. also in the district, we're learning more about a dc woman murdered in her own home over the weekend. neighbors say stephanie was a mother who worked with special needs kids. according to police, ex-boyfriend shot her early saturday morning. lindsey, what have you learned tonight? >> reporter: sean i'll start by saturday saying people have been living cards flowers balloons in front of her home. the man accused of killing her, donald hair seton used to live here too. they say the couple broke up about a year ago but he had been coming around again especially recently. one neighbor says that friday evening just hours before the killing, he saw her car parked. hairston was

nothing seemed out of the ordinary. today he was charged with first-degree murder. as we mentioned stephanie was very involved in her church. she had been a day care worker at the christian tabernacle of god. she worked with special needs kids. she was involved with youth ministry. the church posted of her death on facebook. asking for prayers for her family. particularly devastating about this is she reported her ex-to police more than once just this month. he was threatening her. she got a temporary restraining order and went back to police after he violated. hairston said he sent people to hurt her and didn't care if he went to school. she was as you find shot to death in her bed. she was also a mother. her daughter, who's around 12, meant the world to her. >> she's devoted to her

her daughter came first. always buying books for her, very proud of her accomplishments, and always so nice to see them go to church sunday because the daughter what a would come out and here had that my new outfit: just very sweet s you want good things happen to good people. i was shocked. >> reporter: he said she's extremely bright. she wants to be a doctor. this neighborhood from what i'm told is very tight knit community and her family has lived in this home for years. right now, neighbors are in the process of putting together a fund to help the daughter go to college. live in southeast lindsey watts fox 5 local news. fox 5 is in arlington now. the community is on edge after a woman was sexual assaulted at knife point inside her own home. it happeneded around 2:00 a.m. on north 4th street. police believe the suspects crawled into the ground floor apartment through an open window

bedroom. the victim was able to escape to a rest m and the suspect took off. >> during the attack, she was very brave. she saw an opportunity for her to separate herself from the male. she did so by going into the bathroom and locking the door. she took her ipad with her. yelled for help. >> i heard that he came in through the window. you don't really expect that of a sexual assault. >> i don't know, it was just pretty scary that could have happened here. >> there aren't surveillance cameras at the apartment complex. victim says she wasn't able to get a good look at the man's put face. of course we're tracking metro tonight. commuters experienced major delays on first workday of phase 2 of safetrack. to this phase cut off service between five stations along the blue, orange and silver lines. that means metro riders are having to board shuttle busses in order to travel between eastern market minnesota avenue and benning ro

significant. today, our tom fitzgerald found that what she don't somebody a ten-minutes ride took nearly an hour. phase 2 lasts until july 3rd. it was a chose call for a liquor store employee in tell me he will hills almost hit by a car that crashed into the building. police responded to the crash around 6:00 this evening, one employee was taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. police say the driver hit the store after losing control in the parking lot. the driver was not hurt. there was no word yet on what caused that crash. first on fox 5, a busy intersection in the district has residents concerned about their safety. it's just steps away from dozens of home near the h street corridor. and neighbors want city official to say make changes. marina marraco is live in northeast with the story. marina? >> reporter:

intersection is confusing. you have traffic coming at you in six different directions then you have cars traveling up and down 8th street coming up to this light that you see behind me. it's red now. when it's green, you have cars across the way in the opposite direction stopping two-way stop if they do. that's where things get dicey. >> they're coming out to see the traffic and you're already in the way. >> reporter: confusion apprehension and you frustration. >> we see almost accidents every day right at this intersection making this turn to the left. >> reporter: it's an accident waiting to happen. >> definitely seeing two accidents happen and i've seen a lot of near misses. >> reporter: two traffic lights seemingly not enough to regularity traffic at this intersection. >> the main issue right here and how it's not a four-way stop because you have a

minutes after shots were fired. killer is heard saying, i let you know i'm in orlando and i did the shootings. he champions to be an islamic soldier and called on the u.s. to stop bombing iraq and syria while swearing support to the islamic state. may god protect him. authorities describe the shooter's tone as chilling, calm and deliberate. the fbi initially redacted parts of the transcript where the killer swears support to the islamic state but officials changed their mind saying it became an unnecessary distraction. the fbi's initial decision to withhold the information drew criticism from house speaker paul ryan. orlando police are dealing with their tone critic who wonder if lives could have been saved had they entered club sooner. >> i believe there's a misconception that we didn't do anything for three hour, i'm trying to clarify that's true. our officers were within the club within minutes,

. fox 5 dc cares is partnering with the alzheimer's association with the fund-raising events called the longest day. >> it's the summer solstice. all day long people nationwide having doing all sorts of fun things. >> we want to share the stories behind called step and swing for elaine. she passed away from alzheimer's last year. we're hearing from her husband, gill. >> i met her when i was 16. we're in high school. we were high school sweet hearts. she was fun. she was part of the cool set. i was not. we were married early.

we sort of grew up together. >> elaine was a wonderful woman. she was a terrific mother family lady. she loved -- her passion was dancing. >> at the start, dementia is really hard to discern. it's little things that only you would know if you been with somebody for a long time and you're really know know them. then it gets more progressive. it snow balls, gets bigger and bigger and the caregivers all gross larger. i loved taking care of her. i really did. >> it was very difficult. she still wanted to dance. and her family was her rock.

she still had a glow about her, especially on that dance floor. >> she was lots of fun. for her dancing was casual. we liked taking lessons. we liked being with our friends. it was a social event. it was great exercise. it was nice. it was a nice community to be a part of. >> i remember her as a dancer with great sense of music and a fun quirky sense of humor that never left her. >> i remember her as someone way tremendous amount of courage and passion and love of dance and family. her husband, her community. greatly missed by all of us. >> i miss her. life goes on. i'm moving
