because our office is essentially adjacent to the t hospital. authorities eventually gave the all clear. that's when we saw soldiers leading hundreds of people backp into their buildings. a base spokesman says the woman who made the initial call did the right thing.thin this is just the latest false alarm that has unnerved the dmv over the past year. last july a woman thought she heard a gunshot at the navy yard and called 911.911. days later there was a similar at walter reed national military center. and then in october of last year someone inside an office complex in fairfax county misunderstood an e-mail about an active shooter drill, thought it was the real thing and called # 11. we are days away from the big fourth of july celebration on the national mall. us park police are stepping t up security to keep visitors save.r there will be ate securityecur access points around the mall. they will all be open monday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. they are searching all bag

we're at the smithsonian metro stop. this is on the mall side.i it's pretty quiet.et. they actually close this location at 10:00 the at night. this is going to be a hotspot come the weekend with the fourth of july local day. some good news here they are suspending the safe track plan on the fourth of july. so everything is going to be upp and running but there will bei some changes that you do need td take note of when it comes tocoe the hours and services on fourth of july. take a look here. for metro rail they will be open 7:00 a.m. to midnight. they will be running a saturday height schedule to 2:00 in the afternoon. then a rush hour service willvie before and after the fireworks that will be at a rush hour base. you'll also be paying off peakff fairs during the entire day. good news there. now, we spoke with some familiar with all the metro work to see if they will be taking it this weekend. here's what they had to say. >> we were anticipating there might have been some delays ore different things like that so we kind of planned that into our

the pentagon made an historic and controversial move today. it listed the long-standing ban on transgender troops. some military leaders feel theel move is putting politics over policy. fox's dug myocele way has thehe story. >>reporter: effective immediately transgender americans may serve openly.open the pentagon dropping its ban on transgender people openlyr pe serving in the military. announcing change on thursday, saying a year long study was conducted looking into the issue. we don't want barriers unrelated to a person's qualification toio serve, preventing us from recruiting or retaining the solder, salor,

center span of the chesapeake th bay bridge with a man thinking a of suicide.uici there's nothing between you andd 200-foot drop to the water. it was early thursday morning just before memorial day weekend when captain chen and his crew h responded to a scary scene hundreds of feet above the air a in the chesapeake bay. they immediately jumped into action using a rope system to to lower captain chen underneathndr the bridge to where a man wasan threatening to jump. chen says the man was agitated. i shook his hand. i introduced myself and then i gave him a hug. sky fox roling as that hug, that tender show of emotion transformed what could have beea a tragedy into try ump. captain chen says it was instinct. i try to do my best in terms of keeping his mind off the situation and tried to focus on what we were doing, just to ju breathe and look at me and getd through this together of the ite took several minutes but the man finally put on the harness and was hoisted t

well there's some bad news forea some those of you who live in the district.ict. you soon could be paying a lotot more for our power bill. pepco filed a request for one of the largest rate increase in decades. they are asking the public pub service commission for a 5 percent rate hike for d.c. customers. if approved that means your bili will go up
